bloody hell spud, good post, and some would say its not a post you would have made when you were flushing rickys loo for him..Spud wrote:David,DavidPayne wrote:Hatton will pulverise him and I very much think Hatton has declined.
But Maglianaggi is a dilute version of what he needs to be to win.
A slippery fighter doesn't get tagged as much as he does.
Just because he uses tweezers on his eyebrows doesn't mean he's hard to hit.
I think Hatton will look better against Mag.
But he still only 70% of his best, at best.
More than enough for Paulie.
Lets hope you are right - British Boxing in my view needs the likes of Calzaghe, Hatton, Haye and Froch too keep on winning - if they do not the transition to those coming through the ranks to hopefully hit the world ranks is going to be vast - seriously if the above mentioned fall away who else do we have ready to step into their shoes now??
But back to Hatton - you have forgotten a couple of factors in your summing up of Hatton - firstly and I believe it is the most important one - the "Kerry Kayes" factor - without him doing all but wipe Hatton's arse for him I honestly believe Hatton will not be the same fighter.
Couple that with Hatton clearly not liking "fancy dan" fighters who box and run and who also have the necessary footwork to steal the fight with a few pitter patter jabs here and there - I honestly think Hatton has a whole lot of problems coming his way!!!
Then I suppose you could add in another factor - what is Hattons punch resistance like? - Collazo fight was alarming, Mayweather fight speaks for itself and then you have the Lazcano fight where Hatton was clearly buzzed in something like the 8th round by a fighter who was a Golden Boy fighter and was there for the pay day. Okay Malanaggi cannot punch but I dont think he will need to, to have Hatton in trouble.
You then have how harder a punch does Hatton have - he has bullied the majority of his fighters by the volume of punches - not by single concusive punchers.
The final point - is the change of trainer so late in the day of Hattons career - okay a fresh face in a lot of ways may do him some good - but to tell anyone who will listen to him that there has been quite a few changes for me is not the right thing for a fighter who reached world level by using tried and tested methods - iHatton should have changed one thing many years ago and now I feel it is too late and that is his lifestyle outside of the ring!!!!!
The final big factor and it is perhaps the biggest in my thoughts that Malalanaggi could possibly steal and I mean steal this fight by his hit and run tactics is how much did Cotto take out of Malanaggi?? was his last fight against Ndou mearly a blip because he knew the Hatton fight was already made so he took the foot off the gas and thought of the healthy pay day against Hatton rather than think of the fight at the time with Ndou.
Overall - I think Hatton's lifestyle has finally caught up with him - I think Malanaggi still has a big fight left in him and I honestly think Malanaggi will furstrate the life out of Hatton by running all night - Hatton I believe does not have the stamina to run after a man who will not stand in front of him and fight - the more the rounds go on the more frustrated he will become and that will lead to mistakes and enable Malanaggi to stand and trade by then Hatton will be knackered and this could heavily influence the judges to give the fight to Malanaggi.
Bloody hell I am exhausted after writing all that.
but, i think you are right on the money big boy, i think hatton is in deep trouble, i can see ricky doing well for maybe 4 rounds, then i can see paulie taking over, and perhaps taking a 115-113 decision or stopping the hitman late on in the championship rounds.

Hatton has been rumoured to be struggling with the weight for every fight I can remember.

Emerson, where have you heard these rumours? I hope to dear God they're fabricated.
Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
Someone told me that posts on BoxRec (and no, it's not Shaggy). I was told 7lbs, however he looked fine at UFC 91.Dioufy wrote:Emerson, where have you heard these rumours? I hope to dear God they're fabricated.
I hope it's just crap.
Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
Yes, there was that too. But Malignaggi's best wins were over N'Dou (who's at best, a gatekeeper) and Cherry (who is probably the same). He got beat off Ngoudjo (who I had losing to M'Baye, albeit by one point) and N'dou II (although is was a close fight but Paulie was lucky). I can't see for the life of me that Hatton would struggle against either of them two, I really can't. They're both more flat-footed, lack power and don't cut off the ring as well as Ricky. In my eyes it's a no brainer - if a 80% Hatton turns up then he wins a widish decision. He would've had to have slipped irreparably to lose against Paulie. Oh, and don't get me wrong, Paulie's style used in a better way would probably beat Hatton but Paulie, for me, doesn't have the ability and attributes to trouble Hatton - he needs to be a hell of a lot more polished. Furthermore, if Hatton loses then he needs to hang them up because there's literally no way back from that.sg1985 wrote:i agree with you, he took every round. i believe he was ill before the fight toDioufy wrote:Am I in the minority that thought Ricky gave a good performance against Lazcano? For me, he won every round and although he got tagged once or twice he never really looked in too much trouble, or on the verge of being stopped (like some idiots proclaim).

And it's obviously not Mayweather Sr.'s responsibility to manage the weight loss, as shown by Joan Guzman's recent failure to make weight.WildWaylon wrote:That is a concern, if its true, it was crazy to sack Kayes.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:If the rumours of him struggling to make weight are true, it's possible.whatashambles wrote:Anyone think Malignaggi could stop him on cuts?

Ricky Hatton did not sack Kerry Kayes - that is a fact!!! - I had a conversation with Kerry 3 weeks ago in Jersey - it was the most enlightening conversation I have had within anyone in boxing - Kerry is a man of his word and to put the conversation in short - he basically stated to Team Hatton he would not be attending Ricky's next fight and future fights - ask Team Hatton if anyone doubts this.WildWaylon wrote:That is a concern, if its true, it was crazy to sack Kayes.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:If the rumours of him struggling to make weight are true, it's possible.whatashambles wrote:Anyone think Malignaggi could stop him on cuts?
I am truly astounded Team Hatton did not fall over themselves in a rush to persuade Kerry to change his mind - I found out first hand what an integral part Kayes played in Hatton's preparation - I have absolutely no doubts he was NO1 in Hattons team - he took Ricky on the weights, sorted out his diet, was there for anything Ricky wanted and what a lot of people miss is Kerry Kayes whilst being a serious professional - he is also a funny funny man and when the mood needed to be lightened a bit Kerry was there with a joke or 2 to make everyone laugh including Ricky.
I will go as far as to say - not persuading Kayes is for me one of the most silly things I have seen in boxing - its f*cking madness in my opinion on Team Hatton's part.
Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
If he has struggled with the weight more so than other fights and does look drawn and skinny to the body then I give Paulie a chance when the fight gets into the later rounds - if that is the case then I wouldn't rule out Hatton's corner pulling him out because he has nothing left. My prediction of a Hatton 118-110 win is dependent on the assumption that he will make the weight and look healthy. I guess I will reevaluate after the weigh-in but I pray that Hatton hasn't become complacent with making weight, and in truth, I don't think he's that silly. He's never been one not to not pull his weight in training, so the comparison with Guzman isn't justifiable too.
Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
Saying that Team Hatton must be very familiar with Kayes methods and routines so I can't believe it will be that difficult to duplciate them to be strong at the weight.
Hatton's dedication in training camp has never been in question

Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
In theory you would think that Hatton knows his body and training methods well enough to do this without Kayes but until he's actually on them scales with his top off then I guess we will never know how easy it has been for him to makes 140lbs this time.
Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
Very true. However, does he know how to maintain strength and stamina? I'm saving my PTBF prediction until weigh-in. However he's looked emaciated before on the scales and been fine. Dude is a physical phenomenon.Dioufy wrote:In theory you would think that Hatton knows his body and training methods well enough to do this without Kayes but until he's actually on them scales with his top off then I guess we will never know how easy it has been for him to makes 140lbs this time.

Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
[/quote] Thing is Spud not knowing the people you do all I can do is read and listen like most of us do. OK I will take your word he wasnt sacked, but it doesnt sound as if he was happy to remain with the team. Then you go on to say they made no attempt to persuade him to stay with them either. So was he in the position of quit or be sacked? No, dont answer that it could lead to problems. Could it be loyalty to Billy Graham? I still think Billy should have been kept on. Even if he couldnt have done the phisical things anymore, those duties could have been delegated. Graham and Kayes were a vital part of Hattons winning formula and if they were still there I doubt very much anyone would be questioning Hattons ability to beat Malignaggi. I dont know why Hatton has taken the loss to Mayweather so badly, after all no other fornicator could beat him either and he was ranked the world number one p 4 p fighter. No shame at all losing to the Worlds best and he did give it his best shot.Spud wrote:

Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
Yep, you're right there. I would rather have Kayes there than not have him even if Hatton thinks he knows himself well enough to do it all on his own. I just hope he's brought in someone who he can go to for advice, if only advice about stamina and different dieting techniques. I think people also need to remember that his metabolic rate would naturally be slowing down as he gets older, thus making it harder to lose the excess pounds and make 140lbs. So I am will the majority in thinking that it's a big mistake in not having Kayes there. Like Spud said, I would've bent over backwards to keep him there. I hope Hatton doesn't regret it.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Very true. However, does he know how to maintain strength and stamina? I'm saving my PTBF prediction until weigh-in. Let's just say Kerry wasn't sacked and leave it at that mate . Otherwise this thread may get deleted. ;;-)
Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
Last question here from me about it - was their breakup amicable on was there a bit of flack from getting rid of Graham? Kayes seems like a loyal guy and got on well with Billy so did he leave because of Graham's departure or because Hatton wanted rid?
Re: The Last Stand of Ricky Hatton
You missed my point. I didn't say Hatton didn't pull his weight in training. I was trying to say that his weight management has previously been controlled by a third party, i.e. Kerry Kayes. This is no longer the case and clearly Mayweather Sr. is not the man to replace Kerry in that regard, as we saw from the recent fiasco with Guzman. I was in no way comparing Hatton's training habits to Guzman's, rather just pointing out that nobody has replaced Kerry Kayes, which could lead to a problem.Dioufy wrote:If he has struggled with the weight more so than other fights and does look drawn and skinny to the body then I give Paulie a chance when the fight gets into the later rounds - if that is the case then I wouldn't rule out Hatton's corner pulling him out because he has nothing left. I wasn't even replying to you so I apoligise if you thought I was replying to you. The Guzman remark was because I skimmed through some posts and thought someone had made a comparison between Hatton and Joan - if I was wrong I apoligise again.
It will be a pain not having someone in to supervise his diet, weight and weight training. I don't know if someone from Mayweather's camp has took over that role - I assume not because I haven't heard anything. He does need someone there though, you're right.
