I said Hatton would win but I don't think he looked impressive doing it despite the dominance. Firstly they're making him box more which is good BUT it looked very awkward, for instance throwing jabs when he was in range to land hooks for instance, not throwing a right or hook off the jab. Secondly he looked slower or less dynamic. Maybe it boils down to you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Any version of Hatton would have beat Malignaggi like a red haired step child.

I agree with your post Mark - I was one of those who thought Hatton was massively on the decline and honestly thought Malanaggi would give Hatton nightmares - so with all that said you have to be impressed with the way Ricky performed and taking all things into consideration you have got say it was perhaps Rickys best performance of his career.
With that said Mark if you are going to analyise a fight properly - you also have no choice but to express the dissapointment that Malanaggi did not make it more of a fight I concede Hatton would have probably negated anything he did but Malanaggi quite simply went into survival mode and did not have a Plan B.
Yet again Ricky Hatton proved me wrong - he was excellent and deserves all the praise in the world.
I think Paulie was so disappointing because he got a taste of Hattons power in round 2 and didn't fancy the job from that moment on, round 1 was a pretty even affair probably even Paulie edging it, I think Paulie underrated Hatton and probably read half of the crap that was posted on here

and bought into the whole Hatton was finished and on the slide business, after round 2 Paulie was not interested in actually fighting but just to survive so he didn't have a KO on his record which is what he got in the end anyway.

Well done Ricky, quality performance...Malignaggi was destroyed, and as Stu said, anyone who thinks Cotto easily beat him has better watch the fight again...
I was most impressed with the jab..yes, he outstrengthed him but he outjabbed him aswell, he beat Paulie at his own game...
Now Oscar may be too big, but the country will come to a standstill, and what a good way to go out, biggest British fight ever...Witter may just get overlooked

I know tough decision either Witter or the winner of De La Hoya v Manny

The two guys are just on a differant planet, Witter needs to try to get a big fight in the States for peanuts, get himself a title, i hope he succeeds...Hatton is off to take part in the biggets money fight in history and then retirement...a well earned one

Hatton's best performance in the US. Be interesting how he deals with a fighter with a solid jab, or a right hand. Floyd seems to have lit a fire under him.

Top performance by Hatton.
Fight was over when he landed that big right towards the end of round two.

Good to see some technique from Ricky Hatton. He showed a great awareness of angles in this fight. Malignaggi is not easy to catch clean. I wish Hatton had maybe done something like this earlier on. He's along way from being the best fighter in the world, but he does have stardom at the moment and props to him and efforts & hard work in the gym made to preserve his stature.

I am not sure what all this round two stuff is about.
Fight was over by the end of the first round.
Yes, arguably PM won the opener, but you could tell from his face when he sat down he knew he was in for a severe beating.
Hatton was just taking a look in the first... PM had felt the power and knew he was going to have a bull coming onto him all night. His fiddling around wasn't going to work for another minute...

Was PMs right hand broken going into this fight?

Agree that at the weight Hatton will be able to bully, in a good sense, and break-down anyone. Not sure about claims that this was as good as Tszyu. Kostya was a legend and was broken to the point that he quit. It was a total A+ night that night, by a A fighter, DG! It was an impressive statement of Hatton's 140-standing.
Not sure aobut the Oscar fight, it is a bit like Jones-Joe as you know what the result will be, would be a huge, Tszyu-like, win if it came off, but Oscar is so big and tough.
I will watch the replay.
Sounds like Hatton did well, yes DLH would smash him.

Bullshit fella, Cotto, Ngoudjo and Ndou had no problem raining all over Paulie's face and the latter 2 should both have had decisions over him. Paulie may have fast hands but his defense is on par with Gatti and thats no exageration, I said it going in.

I agree.
Not a great fight in all honesty but Hatton bossed and bullied him throughout and made him look limited. No way was Hatton as good here as in the the Tzsyu fight. Tzsyu was a different proposition when Hatton faced him. He could bang and Hatton nullified that whilst swarming all over him. Since then Hatton has used the same template. Unfortunately it was not pretty.
Hatton is a top level world champion that should be considered below the real elite guys.
I would have anticipated a Hatton- Pacquaio fight more than a Hatton-ODLH fight or indeed a ODLH- Pacquaio fight (to me this is a novelty).
But boxing nowadays is about money and you have to reluctantly go along with it. I do not begrudge any of them for snatching as much as they can.

Ricky is in a 'win, win' situation now. Even if he loses to Oscar he can step back to light-welterweight and get a big payday because he is number one in that division regardless.
Good luck to the fella

I dont care what anyone says about how good Hatton was. yes he fought well take nothing away from him for that, but bottom line Paulie was absoulutly piss poor. he offered nothing for Hatton i mean his number one weapon was his jab which was non existant and when it was there he was being beaten to it by Hatton. He lacked power, and mouth put aside he lacked desire to want to fight. Hattons jab was good and by far his best american performance but there was still no head movement and has trouble avoiding right hands on way in. A fight with Oscar or a rematch with Mayweather would be a bad move, Oscar would be to big for Hatton at any weight and Mayweather is just to clever for Hatton. Good performance for Hatton but has he really improved, from that performance from Paulie how could anyone say YES. I CANT!

yeah dont think malinaggi is elite at all but great win by hatton under the circumstances and in my opinion gets his career back on track amazing what one fight can do it was looking a bit gloomy for hatton post mayweather in terms of realistic options for him.
Think the trainer change has/will pay off no disrespect to billy graham who done a cracking job in my opinion but everyone has there limitations theres always someone better.
Gets Hatton a chance to get back involved in the really big fights again think malinaggi was make or break.
If hatton leaves the 140 lbs division or fights someone outwith this division in his last few fights who thinks malinaggi will dominate the division think there could be a few that would give him big problems there must be someone better than him in there he was never that great on the viewings of him that i have seen but never the less great win and performance by hatton
