Well done to McCloskey - gutted for Lynes.... he seemed off his game, but McCloskey is quick and was negating the jab well.

Never seen McCloskey before tonight, looked good in there.

It's sad to say but Lynes just came to the end of his career as a boxer. There was none of the quick feet and movement and sharp jabs and counters that gave him his resurgence in the Muttley and Morrison fights. Branco was too strong for him. He's had to take a step back and found that there was little left in the locker.

Credit where it's due McCloskey took advantage of his opportunity and made it hard work for a decent technical fighter and took him off his game.

No they had it 7-2 to McCloskey, giving Lynes the first 2 and McCloskey everything after.

No they had it 7-2 to McCloskey, giving Lynes the first 2 and McCloskey everything after.

he's telling the truth though, the first 2 rounds were close(despite McCloskey being wobbled in the second) and the Sky commentators barely called a punch for him. All it was for those two rounds was Lynes, Lynes, Lynes despite the fight being touch and go at that stage.

And in the spars they showed earlier, it looked like Fagan was getting into McCloskey well too. Could be another upset tomorrow night too, I hope :)

Was Adam Smith commentating? He is consistently awful, esp when the fight doesn't go according to his pre written script

Ya it was Adam Smith and I agree, McCrory has a tendency to do it too.
They often go in looking for landed punches from one fighter and disregarding the other, and only when it becomes obvious that the other fighter is clearly winning the rounds do they sway position, and then ignore most of the first fighters work.

Probably the best Irish hope for a world champion with that weak ass division at the moment. This should bump him up the rankings a bit, try for the EBU, and then position him for a beatable champion.

Impressive performance by McLuskey but sadly Lynes looked like a washed-up fighter. I had PM five points ahead at the time of the stoppage.

Completely agree with the comment about Adam Smith. Lynes landed a cracking left hook on McLuskey's chin in round 2 which wobbled him for a moment. But within 10 seconds he had recovered and was back in his rhythm. So much so I still gave him the round.

It took Smith ages to realise just how bad Lynes was looking and how much McLuskey was on top

Well done paul, I always felt that he would be a decent euro operator, and I think he will get that belt . Its funny that to me he looks so easy to hit but is great at frustrating his opponent and smothering at vital times. I think that style will not work at world level.

Lets hear it for Colin Lynes, a man who's never had an easy fight and would probably have defended a spurious world title many times had he been with a different promoter.

What was all that about , the comentators saying paul was somewat of an unknown quantity?
Anybody got any ideas on who should paul fight next?

Seconded. I missed the fight but was gutted to hear that not only did Lynes lose, but the manner in which he lost. I thought he looked fantastic against Mutley and to be honest I'm surprised that he's slumped so badly, so quickly. Would be interesting to hear what someone close to his camp has to say.

You are as good as the other Guy lets you be. I think McClosky is a bit special, seen Him in the Gym Beating up on good Middles, good Fighter.

Mccloskey did look good I think he beat Barnes. Also its good seen Eamon Magee in the corner. Shame his career was ruined by that attack

yeah it wasnt Snowmangate that ruined his career it was the "Irish water"

Not sure if there is any truth to it whatsoever do I heard he was on the piss for the week leading up to the hatton fight - surely that cant be true

The year Before

lets not write Lynes off as finished goods yet. People said this after the Daws fight - maybe the camp wasn't good, he did look slow last night and as Sky did insinuate - the change of opponent would affect Lynes also.

He's only 31 and seems to be a confidence fighter, maybe he needed an easy one after the Branco set back.

Lynes is a good Fighter, McCloskey is believing in Himself, starting to bring the backfoot in I think He is finding Himself. Well done John Breen.
