I'm surprised he can do 10 7 mate...he's a big lad. Just can't see him making 10st.
He looks small height wise
Naz was the same though wasn't he? A short guy for feather (5'3ish if I remember rightly) although he had thick, stocky legs that helped him generate that insane power..

Brook would clean most of the LWW division in the UK at the moment and the only threats would be the obvious 2 and Mc Closkey

Yeah, I agree with that. Brook was quoted as being 1/66 to win, which says it all.
Elwell was coming off a win against Paul Burns, but before that 2 losses. His only previous title challenge was for an English title which he lost.
He should not have been fighting for the British title, and the result was depressingly predicatable.

Brian,
There's no way he could do the weight.
Look Kel has been an open secret in Sheffield for ages, and the kid's only 22.
This was a voluntary defence and he's made it clear he wants the belt outright.
Why go seeking the best in the division for a voluntary defence ?
The next one is a mandatory and no doubt if that doesn't meet your wishes, that will be Ezekiel's fault as well.
For one so young, he has been the most avoided domestic fighter in any weight division.
So don't get your hopes up for the next one.
Name after name is spouted, but I'm telling you now, the vast majority don't want a piece of him.
Do not forget as well, the Promotional difficulties with making these fights happen.
Onwards and upwards.
Ezekiel will be a World Champion. Absolutely no doubt.

You win the british title, defend it three times(used to be twice) then the belt is yours for keeps.

I'd like to know what he weighs on the night of his fights. The top welters in the World weigh around 160 lbs.

I've seen his 3 televised bouts and he's a massive talent. Much better than Khan, IMO. I can see why ppl don't want to fight him. But there has to be better fights than this one. Especially if he's a future world champ.
Now that he's champion surely it will be easier to make the fights.

Brook didn't look chuffed after. I thought he maybe wanted to finish Elwell off with a sustained attack. First time he really stepped in with a shot and the ref ended it.
When you're knocking a guy down with your first jab, obviously there is big ability there but it also means the other guy shouldn't have been in there and that the fight probably shouldn't have been made.
Brook could be fightng the best welters in Britain and it might still be mismatches but hopefully we get a chance to see.
He needs rounds, as well.

I said at the time this fight was announced that it was an insult to Kell Brooks ability to put him in with Elwell, if they couldn't sign a fight with one of the top Brits then they should have got someone from overseas.

I think Brook probably wanted more rounds under his belt. I mean his last fight only went one round.

Perhaps he was embarrassed by his travelling support, who did their best to disrupt the Reg Gutteridge tribute. Morons

He doesn't have to go seeking the best, just someone who will be a little competitive. Lomax would've been my choice.

The belt you get for winning the British Title is the Lonsdale Belt.

Banjo,
You ain't listening mate.
Kel wants that Lonsdale Belt for keeps.
To do that, he needed to get this voluntary out of the way, then his next which is mandatory.
After that, I fully expect Ezekiel to vacate.
What would bringing "someone from overseas" have achieved ?
I've said it once and I'll say it again.
You can listen to as much bluff and bluster out there from the top 10 - they don't want a piece of Brook.
OK they'll all give it the big licks - avoiding me etc - but I saw first hand when Ezekiel was with Dave Coldwell how so called challengers put their excessive demands forward, or worse than that suddenly developed an injury or illness.
You can only beat what is prepared to stand before you - an old cliche but true.

Can't get excited about someone who hasn't fought anyone. Brook will get found out when he fights someone who can take a punch IMO.

Well, OK, but even so- a "voluntary" defence should at least be at a certain standard, surely?
Elwell had lost 2 out of his last 3, and had lost in a challenge for the English title. Can ANYONE be a voluntary?

An opponent for a voluntary defence has to be approved by the BBoC.
If you look at the history, Mark Lloyd was the one originally scheduled for the voluntary but was turned down by the BBBoC.
We outsiders will never know who SN approached or what the response was but we do know that Kell has been avoided like the plague. John O'Donnell gave up the English title when Kell was made mandatory challenger.
I doubt any of the top 10 will want to risk facing Kell and twenty six is right when he says that they may make noises publicly but privately they will all be waiting for Kell to win his next defence and move on to European and World title fights.
Once Kell vacates the British Title they won't have to risk a possible defeat and those remaining are fairly evenly balanced so they will be quite happy to sort it out between themselves. I suppose I can't say that I blame them. If I were in their shoes I think I would prefer to fight anyone in Britain other than Kell Brook at welterweight, too much risk for the sake of waiting 2 or 3 more months.
The bottom line however, is that, the boxer has very little, if any say, in who they fight. That's a job for the promoter and the manager who will naturally take care to look after their own interests as well as their fighters.

The extent to which a fighter is being "avoided" is always debatable, but looking at Brook's record he appears to have fought no-one other than tomato cans/journeymen until he met Barrie Jones (who was coming off a Welsh title loss) . For sure, it was a good win against Jones, and a better win against McIntyre, but at this stage regarding World title ambitions... not sure.

His next defence will no doubt tell us a lot.

Whicker,
I don't for the minute want to sound disrespectful, but you are showing a lack of understanding in how boxing works OUTSIDE the ring.
You should read my pervious post and Rumpole's post again, and inwardly digest.
Should a voluntary defence be against an opponent of a reasonable standard ? Yes, that's what the BBB of C is there for.
Can anyone be a voluntary ? Yes - but requires board approval.
If you have a gripe with that, take it up with Robert Smith.
For some reason you are intent in dismissing the explanation about Kel's opponents without consideration, then describe his opponents eloquently as tomato cans.
That is out of order.
Any lad putting his head between the ropes is deserving of respect.
Get some.

jennings can't fight for the british title as he is the wbu champ.
watson is fighting john o'donnellfor commonwealth
thompson is fighting final eliminator for commonwealth
doherty wants nothing to do with british title while kells around
you can slag elwell of all you want but atleast he had the guts to fight kell.
response to another post. apologies for the brook fans who was rude when reg was getting his mention. these people are fans of brook not of boxing so it didnt mean anything to them. apologies again

I think if Brook put his mind to it, he'd destroy almost all of the UK welters out there. Some would be more durable than Elwell mind.
If he can destroy all of these fighters then why doesn't he fight them?
Jennings, Watson, Doherty, Anderson, Thompson, Hatton, Lomax, O'Donnell, Haughian & Mutley would all be good defences of his title and would bring much credibility and respect.
I think we would find out a heck of a lot more about Kell Brook if he fights this type of opponent, rather than fighters like Elwell.
You know I think you're 100% correct. I expect after one more defence he will move up to European level and toast the very average Polish guy (who upset Bonsu for the belt). Unfortunately we will be left with a pile of ifs and buts then, with the general consensus being that Brook was the best of the domestic bunch and he could have beaten them all, but without us ever actually finding out.
