This obviously isn't a megafight, but it is a good fight. Taylor needs a big win to get himself back in the top 20 bracket, while Froch needs a big name full stop.

What does Bute have to do with this?

I'm just telling it as I see it. I'm not asking anyone to agree with me.

If Froch's fans want to believe this fight is bigger then it actually. That's their prerogative.

I just don't see this fight creating much interest outside of Froch's and Taylor's fanbase.

In other news, DiBella said that Foxwoods looms as the site for Jermain Taylor’s title challenge against Nottingham’s WBC champ Carl Froch on April 25.

While casino site fees have gone the way of the dodo bird in this shaken economy, the financial “nut” at the union wages smaller arena at Madison Square Garden makes putting a marginal attraction of fight there prohibitive.

Foxwoods, meanwhile, has a comfortable 4,000 seat setup which would easily accommodate Taylor-Froch.

They are so pessimist about the tickets sales that they are booking a 4000 seats venue.

Why is this fight not happening in Froch's or Taylor's hometown where it would sell a lot more tickets?

The answer is both fighters refused to fight in the other guy's backyard.

The American TV and Casino pay more money than in the UK.

At least Froch is getting out there to make his name. Which is something that the complacent, mediocrity encouraging, boring establishment fighters don't do. If he wins he builds from that.

This is a fight for the purists - not a chance of casual viewers being that interested.
Full respect for Carl doing what he has to do, but as things stand this has been a poor marketing exercise - with only 8 weeks to go if it is 25-04-09.

I have to tip my hat to Froch for taking this fight. He's going straight for the biggest challenge out there (other than Kessler). He's out to prove he's the real deal and no paper champ just looking to cash in on a title belt, he also appears not to give a toss about the risk v reward factor..... the man wants the glory. I've never been a big fan, but i'm warming to him more and more.

I personally favour Taylor but Froch's confidence has to be respected, he obviously fancies the job. I think if he beats Taylor he'll have converted me full turn....... is there any space left on the bandwagon or has the horse already bolted DD

I hope we get an update on this on tomorrows Hennesey bill. I need to know the score ASAP if I'm going to travel over for this and I'm sure others are in the same boat.

Well it's a TV fight isn't it. Either Sky or Setanta over here, no? Fighters like Taylro are reliant on TV money and it seems both sides want a neutral location. If Taylor was a bigger star, then things might be different - they could get a good crowd in one of the big venues. But Taylor made dull defences vs Ouma and Spinks and his own home following went down, rather than up. They're greedy ppl reliant on HBO (and now Showtime) money. Taylor should have been a big star but he became a fairly unpopular champion. All these elite names on his record (Hopkins and Wright yes, Spinks and Ouma no way) but Taylor wasn't scintillating. If his career was handled differently he would have been more exciting rather than looking poor vs southpaw welterweights. The point is Taylor could have been a bigger star. And admittedly, Froch - whose chances I fancy, who I am a big fan of currently - could have been moved faster, could have been more convincing earlier in his career. So while not a massive fight, a great opportunity for Froch. When he wins, ppl will say "Taylor was finished, Taylor was small at 168".

a lot of ppl seem to have it in for this fight; I can think of numerous british world champs who would hate to have a good mandatory, who would live off a shit belt fighting nobodies until they lost or until they realised they were better tha this. Froch wins a title, actively goes after his mandatory, and few seem particularly pleased.

maybe he should have stayed at home, fought De Leon Jr, and pick on whatever Calzaghe victims are still doing the rounds.

Yeah I've heard that Norris Mcwerter is looking into the length of these negotiations, but as you say it has to happen now...... surely. I'd have thought that Sky and/or Setanta would've been interested in this fight, but who knows.

This fight seems to have fizzled out of the mind of a few but has now been confirmed and even boxrec has it scheduled .
shame its not in notts this time though cos april is the ONLY month of the year that i CANT book time off to go watch in america . BOOO
he gets loads of casual fans in notts but dunno if many will make the trip to be honest . i for one dont know anybody that is .
