A few of those bouts could also happen out in Salt Lake City so get ready. A few comments about your picks. Brandon is a much better boxer now than when he last boxed J'Leon. Ernie is in better shape now than the last time he and James boxed. Raeese is tough, but so is Erick DeLeon. I would really like to see that bout. Blue vs. Jose would be a good bout, another one I'd really like to see. These two teams could easily come away with several NGG between them. 3-4 is not beyond reason. Let's cheer them all on and only take sides if they box against each other.

Winning the Michigan or Detroit GG can be difficult. There have been many national champs, runner-ups and semi-finalists who have lost in the tournaments and not made it to the nationals. The Michigan LBC is the same way. Region 5 is also very tough to win with great boxers coming from the Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Lake Erie and Kentucky LBC's. The boxers who compete in the Chicago, Indiand, Michigan, Detroit, Toledo, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Tri-State GG are all at the tourney. That is 8 GG franchises represented at the Great Lakes (Region 5) tourney. Talk about a tough region.

An example of how tough it is to win the region 5 (Great Lakes) tourney is the 141# class. Here are some of the boxers who may be in Akron for the regional tourney at 141#:
Donte Strayhorn
Zeddie Adams
Robert Easter
Andriy Stankevych
Johnny Garcia
Alex Martin
David Craddock
Eric Draper

Many of these guys have legitimate shots at winning the US Championships. Maybe in the future, a region like the Great Lakes region will be able to send several boxers to the US Chp. It is only fair that the region with the most registered athletes gets to send more boxers than a region like Hawaii.

You are right: Donte had to go through both Robert Easter and David Craddock to get out of our state tournament. It is a shame, every guy that you listed will be at the National Golden Gloves, but only one of them will be at the National US Championships.

I got to see the Raeese vs Erick DeLeon fight this past winter, i felt the fight should have gone to raeese.
Raeese looked to be in control of the fight.

It is possible that we could see a rematch of that bout in Salt Lake City.

Why are the golden gloves nationals not on ESPN?
it is a major sporting event, for god sakes they play billiard tournaments!
