I said he is REGARDED as a modern great. You can't argue with that, it's a fact.
My opinion is similar to most, he was a very good fighter who missed out on a couple of bigger fights (Ottke for example) and fought a few bums along the way.

Hall has done eff all bar beat Pryce.
I'm not talking about boxing i'm talking about street fighting where you gauge and bite people. I know people who would anihilate Calzaghe on the street.
you asked me if I though Calzaghe would beat Hall in a street fight........are you saying you think Hall would beat him or something?
likewise Dioufy. No chance.
Where have you seen Hall street fighting?
And even if you have who gives a fornicate, this is a boxing forum.

You've made it obvious you don't like the thread don't post on it then. What the eff is hard to understand about that.
In fact eff that, as you've asked the effing question I'll effin try to effin answer it for you. I've never effing seen Matthew effin Hall in an effin street fight........does that mean I can't formulate an opinion that a bigger, faster , better chinned, fitter more skillful fighter wouldn't beat him? No, does it eff.
All this fckin bull crap people come out with about streetfighting makes me sick, you'd think anyone that's ever had a fight in a pub carpark could somehow bite, scratch, kick and gouge while Calzaghe stood there combing his hair. I've never heard such a lot of fcking shite.
By the way, you don't like our light hearted bit of fun of a thread, I don't much care for your toilet vocabulary in case you hadn't spotted it.

who talks like that? you're a clown.[/quote]
He is a clown. Street fighters just wouldnt stand any chance, not unless they were armed with a bar. Calzaghe is just too quick and skilled for your average street fighter. I was a bouncer a good few years ago and if I was still young and fit I wouldnt want to take him on.

your average thug couldn't take Calzaghe even with a bat or a bar. I have a bit of background in Karate and if you closed the distance quickly you could negate the strike and be in a position to throw the right hand. Vice versa before someone says what if they were left handed.
The weapon would be more likely to be used against you following that.
The kind of speed you would be talking about of Calzaghe , to even a decent "street fighter" would be too much. Your teeth would be on the floor before you had chance to bite him.

Aww bless you sweetie have I upset your delicate sensibilities by saying fornicate once to your fifteen?!
I agreed it was stupid to discuss Calzaghe losing to Hall in any way shape or form...some people will take any opportunity to have a pop at Calzaghe and this is one of the basest arguments I've read on here.
You've just agreed with what I said earlier so why are you having a pop at me?!
They're probably right, a bloke who is willing to gouge your eyes out and bite you is probably going to win...but we'll save that for the playground. And talking about beating Calzaghe in a street fight is not something that appeals to my sense of humour.
My apologies.....

So good you had to post it twice

Amen brother
I did over-react you are quite right to show me up - my apologies
This thread is based on a supposed - well not a supposed, but an actual article from the sun apparently - now despite how I come across I have neither bothered to get off my arse and go and buy a copy, or even go to their site on this laptop right in front of me.
I am certainly not dissing Matthew Hall , who I am pleased for on what most be a fantastic recent win, and I'm not getting into some argument over boxing versus streetfighting.
All I am pointing out is that being a boxer, even an elite one doesn't preclude somebody from being able to get down and dirty in a fight, and I;m just pointing out I think Calzaghe would be a fcking nightmare to fight under any circumstances.
Maybe it's something about "busy" fighters, I always had a similar feeling about that threshing machine that is Michael Hunter who I have seen on many occasions and seen how he pummels them into submission. Just my individual opinions, relax everybody.
As for Manchester or Newcastle, well that's obvious......

think you can offer someone out even though you know inside you're up against it...if someone upsets you enough and you have reason, you'd still want a go at them wouldn't you?
(this has nothing to do with this particular article that's doing the rounds, which I haven't read, must have been a very quiet newsday for them to need this

Most boxers dont find on the street because they would lose their careers if they were caught out.Joe Cal would punch holes in any top street fighter.Street fights last 1-15 mins maxium, the dirty tactics dont come into because the Street fighter would never be able to get into range to do it.
Trained fighters would win everytime end of

Who remembers Joe Savage?
He is a fellow from the black country who won 600 'streetfights' without a single defeat and he was matched up with Bert Cooper
in a pro heavyweight tourney.
Cooper hit him once and it was all over.

If you are a world class fighter - you are a world class fighter - end of - no halfwit who runs his mouth off in a pub would take out

Boxing and streetfighting plenty different. Good boxer isn't necessarily a good street fighter. Good streetfighter not necessarily good boxer. You could be very good at one and terrible at the other. In most cases boxing is more reliant on having a good plan and sticking to it perhaps over a distance. Street fighting has more to do with ending it early - hard and fast.
In a streetfight would Joe's hands hold up?
Would Joe's messy scuffling hold-and-hit attacks be suited to streetfighting? I don't know.
Who cares?

Light heavyweight contender Paul Briggs had some interesting comments on the difference. His dad was a local hard man, martial artist, doorman, street fighter - could make mincemeat out of ppl early on. Briggs, then a boy, saw his dad boxing on TV and couldn't believe it when his dad got broken down and (I believe) quit. Fundamentally the two are so very different.
Even normal boxing and Prize Fighter are different enough, because in PF you have to score hard and early. Classy fighter like Martin Murray is made to struggle when his opponent rushes him.

I think what also has to be taken into account is what shape Calzaghe is in. If he is at the beginning of his camp, his timing, accuracy and speed are not all in unison and at their peak, and therefore he would not be as effective. Not to mention his stamina.
Two completely different styles of fighting, not to forget the unpredicability a street fight can bring, use of kicks, butts, holds, throws etc.
