Fighter leaves trainer after one fight, so what.?

They never gelled like they hoped I presume, parted on the best of terms and it seems Kerry Kayes will still be involved advising the boxer.

What is wrong with that?

It is hardly Muhammad Ali walking out on Angelo Dundee days before a world heavyweight title fight at Madison Square Garden.

Thank you very much for your advice Eric :TU:

But what shocking statement have I made on this thread - please enlighten me - far far worse things have been directed at me on this very forum - what is so bad about the worst thing I have stated on here "Jeffries thinks he is a superstar, when in reality he is a 4/6 round fighter who has yet to prove himself as a professional".

I have not "slagged" Jeffries, I have merely stated an opinion - thats all - you and others should get over it!!

Jeffries and Gallagher have split on good terms.

So why is this dragging out?

This thread must be well annoying to both of them, bordering on nonsense at times, so why not all give it a break.

Agree this should be put to bed. The only thing I'd say is that if someone who barely knew me accused me on a public forum of 'acting like a superstar' I'd consider it an insult, particularly if I considered myself down-to-earth. In essence it's saying Jeffries is acting in an arrogant fashion and getting ideas above his station - how can that not be considered an insult?

Tony Jeffries does not think of him self as a superstar, infact I find ir hard to think of a Boxer who thought he was, Chris Eubank is the only 1 I can think of, even from the early days when he started to come and train with me and Rod Douglas at the old Lonsdale gym in 1987, other that him, personally I dont know anyone like that in the early stages who thinks they are great, ohh and Naz, but he was always like that....., and bare in mind , I was with many from day 1.

Eric you are right there most boxers are real nice down to earth guys,But some time you get people like spud who are so insufficent in this world and lonely and they crave to be wanted and accepted so they come on here and try to make out they are experts and know more than any one else.Would anyone in there right mind give spud there phone number or call him a friend. He claims to be a boxing fan spud has never brought a ticket to see a fight that i know of, the only way he can get human beings to inter act with him is by posted outragerus statmend on here. The only person in this post who thinks he is a superstar is spud and thats in his own mind, No boxer or person who works in boxing should never give spud there phone number because what even you tell him he will twist to get people to take notice of him on here.

does this actually make any sense, Fraink?
Three years or so ago I sat down with Joe, John and Joe G and they outlined that John would win the British title, fight in Vegas and become the #1 in his domestic division, job done. Then they said that Joe Murray would go to the Olympics, turn pro and fight in Vegas, job done. For all the talk of Murray's pro debut not being shown on TV there is the reality of his second fight being beamed over to the UK from Las Vegas, and as part of a mega-show.

They have done what they said they would do.

It could be that come the next few months John is the last man standing in terms of a title for that promotional group, maybe his time will come then. Then again.

In regards to the Murray's, Gallagher has done everything he said he would do, with more to come down the line. So the first quoted comment is a little unfair.
whose comment is unfair, mine or ftmpress's?

it looks like ftmpress is being sarcastic that john murray is doing great. 2 stoppages of EBU top 10 contenders, in British title fights, is good form. you certainly can't fault trainer or fighter for the results there.

Who is this Spud geezer anyways? Is he some sort of manager guy, reviewer? I duno, but I know one thing, I don't give random people my phone number especially not blokes hahahaha! I would have serious questions to ask of myself and the guy asking for my number.

As some people have noted, they split amicably, shit has been spouted on this thread which is clearly just someone trying to do a bit of shit-stirring, I say it should be put to bed. Bit of a farce really, anyone can spout any old crap on a forum, best thing to do is laugh at them.

Spud you are hilarious, i never known anyone get as worked up as you about nothing. Surely no one can comment on training except the person involved. If he feels like he needs more one on one, good! At least he is showing ambition.

If you could get better training for your job than you currently get, who wouldnt take it?

good luck tony hope every thing goes well may 2nd

I hate to get involved, but I have been here a few years now and can't understand why Spud is hated so much. But I do tend to miss a hell of a lot of threads out. And Spud's always seemed alright with me, so just wondered if anyone can inform me why he's despised?

Spud, what is your exact role in boxing at the moment?

Give us a bit of background so we can put some of your comments in context.

It's something to do with his actions as a moderator on another forum.

Spud himself has admitted he went a bit power crazy. He's not the first and he won't be the last to think that being a moderator on an internet forum is some kind of achievement. :D

He seems OK now and I think he should be judged solely on what he posts now rather than his alleged actions in some squabbles from a few years back on another forum.

I would like to see him "declare an interest" though (if he has one) rather than present himself as the impartial voice of reason.

spud joined the maloney mob when we had julius training in aldershot for the tyson fight, he was a clerk in the army, wore a para tie and blazer....he latched on to us then, he was a gofer, frank took him up to manchester for what ever reason frank wanted him as he done the work for free!!! spud was my room mmate, well say room mate, as he spent the night on a couch outside julius room thinking he was protecting julius from 'crocodile fitch tactics', I thought he was funny, wanted to get with the 'in crowd' , which I dont mind anyone trying, I think its nice for guys who would not normaly get to see and be a part of the goings on in a big show.
the funniest part was me and frank were going clubbing the night before te tyson fight, spud wanted to come along, so we got him to drive to a club we were invited to, we got there , frank jumped out, i followed , told spud to park up and come into the club, he then infortmed me he was not very good at parking!! so said ok, get out and I will park up, he got out, leaving the automatic in DRIVE..nearly smashed the car, we went into the club, and spud stayed on his own while me and frank partied, I told him to join us, but he was so nervous, he thought it was nice that we invited him out, he was even buying his own drinks!!!! so thats how spud got nvolved in the pro game, he ended up doing a bit of driving for panix promotions, till he crashed a mini bus taking fighters to the airport, thats was the end of that, he then latched on to hennessy, that ended, now he ended up with fight academy, end of......

I will leave the bits about the boxing side of things just there as they are hilarious - although in reality Eric you have been Franks "lacky" for years !!!

However on the army side of things we need to be a tadge more accurate and factual and please feel free to check the FACTS.

One bit you got correct - Initially I was a clerk in the forces - I joined the RAOC in 1980 and when the Corps was broken up I then became part of the AGC and went onto the Pay side of things paying the lads - you mention a para tie and blazer - only 50% correct - when the AGC was formed and whether you or anyone else likes it I was the first person from the AGC to pass "P Company" and then go onto earn my para wings - I subsequently and this is where it is important Eric I then became the very first clerk to be awarded my DZ flash and be accepted as part of the Pathfinders which as you will know Eric is the elite of the Para's - whilst I still performed clerical duties it was nonetheless a considerable achievement as I ate and trained with the platoon in everything they did including "jumping" when going from static line - although offered I never wanted to train as a freefall military parachutist - I then went to the Ministry Of Defence and was then subsequently posted to 22 Field Hospital where I served as a Staff Sergeant and compiled all of the accounts and paid the lads and lasses of an excellent unit.

I mention the above Eric although it has f*ck all to do with boxing - but as you have taken a cheap shot at me - I only thought it polite to reply!!!

You mention "wore the para tie and blazer" - no Eric you should have stated earned & then wore!! - unlike you, I believe you never had the "stomach" ;;-) to either join the army - or was it you who joined as a cook but ate too many pies and decided to leave as you could no longer hack the pace and could not come to terms with serving with a disciplined service.

With regards to the boxing side of things - yep - done lots of running around and "minor" tasks for a variety of boxing promoters - yes indeed you are correct - but in doing those tasks I consider myself extremely fortunate and the luckiest boxing fan alive.

Please old man do not be so modest - its not me who is the funny one - look no further than yourself - have you been to Portugal lately to clean any promoters houses or pick up a car??

Just one more thing - you state "He even bought his own drinks" - that tells you everything - unlike yourself - I was perpared to spend my own money and the patronising "I think its nice for guys to come along and see the goings on of a big show" - you were the same Eric - just done your grovelling a whole lot longer than me!!

Nonetheless Eric - keep up the banter - I enjoy it!! :TU:

Just wondering when you and others can get back to boxing!!

Spudly, all very interesting but I did ask about your current role in boxing.

Do you have one and, if so, what is it?

I ask because in a lot of your posts you try to to sound like an insider with bits like "remember, you heard it here first" as if you are in a position to know certain things before us mere fans.

Exactly what is this position to which you allude?
