Why not put him in with the same sort of opposition that the eastern european heavies are brought through against if he wants to develop, he won't learn anything fighting the likes of Ellis.

You make it sound like it won't be of Fury's own making.
Basically, if he gobs off like an ignorant, obnoxious pudendum with no respect or integrity like he is doing, then fails to make the gravy, it's because he's been exposed like the fraud he is.

That's what will put a lot of people off Fury. His comments and lack of respect for other fighters. He seems a nice enough lad but the build up will have us all sick of him before long.
Take him off TV for his next five fights i say.
He still needs to learn to punch his weight. His distance seems fine, and he obviously has quick hands. But he has that Amateur style he needs to get rid of.

Are we talking about the same bloke?
'Fraud'? Destroys everyone on the way to ABA title then turns over, generates alot of interest from everyone in boxing and puts everyone away put infront of him in first 5 fights including Swaby and Ellis!
'gobs off like an ignorant, obnoxious pudendum with no respect or integrity like he is doing'? He comes across as a nice enough kid I reckon when I've seen him, pretty smart and savvy for a 20 year old in that situation.

This forum gets worse - take him off telly! The lad has a lot of potential, is exciting to watch, has an opinion and you want to deprive boxing fans seeing him fight on undercards?
The lad has fought excellent competition in relatrive terms thus far, and he has done everything that has been asked of him. From my perspective he is refreshing in that he seems like a live HW who wants to win, who has good mobility, shot variety and speed for such a big bloke. My God go back and watch al them crap fights with Sprott, Harrison, Skelton and Williams - just awful to watch - so slow and lumbering, no stamina, no speed. In this respect, Fury is much more entertaining and shows signs of longevity and potential.

jim wright1 wrote:Give the kid a break ffs. Fury is a baby at heavyweight, serving his apprenticship and doing everything asked of him. He needs to patiently work his way up the domestic rankings because he has got at least a DECADE before he reaches his peak!
Realistically though he could turn out to be an early peaker - who knows - only time will tell. plus he won't be peaking in his mid thirties if he has had 50+ fights!
The big danger is that Fury does an Audley and faces way too much scrutiny because his learning fights have come under too much public scrutiny and this can prove counterproductive because he could face pressure to step up too quickly or have the public turn off him through lack of patience in the learning process.
I'd like to see Tyson Fury have at least 15 more learning fights over the next 2 years before he even thinks of stepping up to the domestic title plate then take the traditional route of British/ European - Commonwealth then an assault on the World scene - as long as he succeeds and proves himself at each stage of the way through a few meaningful defences.
Not much pressure there then Tyson!
I think Tyson will peak early. Despite his size, he doesn't appear to be much of a concussive puncher, and his best asset is his speed and combination punching. His speed isn't likely to remain that impressive as he gets older, as he will also probably fill out.
I like watching Fury - he has pretty impressive offensive capabilities for such a tall man, and thus far appears to carry a shot ok.

Ellis seemed to be only making the numbers up before he even got into the ring .. he has comfortably fitted into the record padder roll hasn`t he :(
His given weight was a little outside of the cruiserweight limit, and by the way he performed - he seemed intent of making it as short a night as possible, even my wife asked why he didn`t move out the way of the jabs .. or even try to block/parry them
McGuigan and Thaxton both tried to hide their smiles when asked if Fury was the real-deal.
Tyson seems a good kid, both inside and outside the ring, I just fear the amount of hype that is building around him will put too much pressure on him and his team to push him before he has really matured and learnt enough to reach the level he hopes to achieve.
As McGuigan himself said, too many easy fights can be a hindrance when the going starts to get tough.
I`d like Hennesy to stop the OTT hype before its too late to stop

Bit confused by this post - on one hand your saying the fights are too easy and on the other you are worrying they are pushing him too fast? Which is it? The speed he is pushed at and the level of competition will be partially determined by his success and abilities. IMO the competition thus far has been acceptable, however, the ease in which he has handled them and as a result not had much opportunity to test and refine skills, means he will need to be pushed harder. As for the hype, well that started before he was a pro due to his name, size, culture, fighting heritage etc. He is now making his own publicity by knocking those out that are put in front of him, he is making publicity because of his size and speed. I have no problem with him fighting on the undercards and getting exposure on ITV4. Its good for boxing.

Didn't destroy David Price though did he ? I guess you've not heard him gobbing off about him then.
Comes across as a complete and utter grade A tosser.

Actually Ellis has had quite a lot of experiance and although relatively small, on paper it looked like a good matchup. Tysons size and power just cancelled out anything Ellis had to offer. Fury needs to fight bigger men but at this stage nobody with too much power or experiance. He has so much time on his side he can afford to spend this year and next building towards a British title challenge. Why risk everything by rushing to get there. 12/14 fights should be about right, especially for such a young man with bags of talent and bags of time. He could be a 24 year old win some, lose some, by being too ambitious and wanting to get there too soon, or he could possibly be our greatest HW of all time, who knows. At 20 he is incredibly young especially for a HW so I for one want to see him move up at a steady pace and go the orthordox route and not do what Amir Khan has.

Let`s be honest here, Ellis had nothing to offer at all. You could see the fear in his eyes as they touched gloves. He bottled it and just wanted out.
As for Fury, I think he is just what we need in our heavyweight division. His comments about other boxers just adds to the expectation and the fact that many people want to see him sparked out.
What about putting him in with Audley??

It was Fury's fifth fight and the guy had a winning record, despite what you think of him. I don't think we can ask for much more at this stage.
On paper it looked good, but I think the Kilt guy was a bigger challenge than Ellis... Ellis has no heart and that was evident in the Enzo Mac fight. He should pack it in.

I think Tyson Fury has ability and potential and is by all accounts a nice guy.
The problem is the hype surrounding him and talk of boxing George Foreman's head off. If they're going to come out with this kind of nonsense then the reality is that people will expect a lot of him and many will want to see him lose. Fair? Perhaps not, but that's the game they've decided to play and they will need to accept the negatives that come with it.
And Ellis was a disgrace on Saturday. It was the worst performance I have ever seen in over 20 years of following boxing. And as for the shorts....

on paper zeller was a very dangerous opponent for only his second pro fight
i dont even think mike tyson fought any one with a ko record like zeller in his first few fights

Calzaghe fought the same calibre 99% of his career, but gets rated as one of Britain's "Best Boxers". So Tyson Fury seems to be taking a pretty similar path

For me it does , i have got to like the person a bit. Having said that i thought naz was a wanker but i could appreciate his skill and speed I thought pbf was a great fighter but had no time for his antics.
In a way if you dislike a fighter and say that they are a hype job it makes it sweeter when they lose.

I think this thread is ridiculous - Fury is VERY promising. We can already see he has fast hands, size and a great attitude at just 20. Ellis was beyond poor, but very few modern prospects have had such a tough first five fights.
Ok, he
might turn out to be useless,
![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)
but - if he turns out to have a chin - with another 20 fights, improving his experience, conditioning, ring smarts &c. he
might be a world champion too.
Furthermore, when he was last on ITV, I forced two non-boxing fans to watch... and they loved it ! One even asked for me to remind him when he was on next and was chuffed that he was getting to see it on terrestrial TV. So he's definitely good for the game.
With Price and Olubamiwo I think we've got a decent heavyweight scene to look forward to. The winner of these three will surely go on to AT LEAST European champ level, so let's enjoy it and give them the benefit of the doubt...
