It’s really sad when you look at the SMWs now, especially in Britain.
There’s always been depth and rivalry, polarising figures, great match ups and great mythical match ups.
Callum Simpson. Good, honest pro, making best of what he has, but I doubt he’d do a couple of rounds with George Groves never mind the likes of calzaghe, Benn, Eubanks etc

Looked like it was on after Groves 2 as well, the degale fight. Even then, i think froch would have destroyed degale.
But i totally get your point.
Its like crawford was never gonna fight boots. Once you've started making the huge money your not going to step back to fight the new hot prospect for less. Its shit or bust, another whoppa payday, or retire.
There is not a fight in boxing i'd rather see than boots v crawford.

Calzaghe would rate higher as a Super Middleweight. Not sure if he rates higher overall, but i don't think it'd be far off either way.

Joe would’ve given Canelo one hell of a fight. I don’t think he juiced either, in that tin shack in Wales. Can’t imagine his dad putting up with anything like that. Canelo certainly has, look at the size of his bull neck.

Calzaghe would have dominsted Canelo at 168, theres only a RJJ. Toney i think id say would definitely beat him.

JC is all wrong for Canelo.
Look how Khan out boxed him, BJS was competitive too, then add on JCs chin and engine.
It would have gone like the Bivol fight, probably worse

Calzaghes last fight at 168lbs was against Kessler at the millennium stadium for the WBC and WBO world titles. One week later Froch was fighting a 37 year old Robin Reid for the British title.
Calzaghe then went to 175 fighting twice, but had already retired by the time Froch fought Pascal for his first world title.

Canelo is definitely an ATG, and contrary to what Calzaghe says - the wins probably add weight to Canelos greatness and not diminish it.
Canelo's has faced the who's who of his divisions for the last 15yrs. Other greats had losses too and for me that just shows they were not afraid to challenge themselves.
Calzaghe may be a UK ATG but he is nowhere near an ATG as Canelo.

Canelo had the much greater career. Imagine old Sick Note fighting a monster like Golovkin! Or going up in weight to face Kovalev! Canelo fought Mayweather, Calzaghe wanted nothing to do with Roy Jones in his prime.
British fans are jingoistic and have short memories.

Some of the opponents were suspect. It's a pity he never got the ottke fight. He did fight a lot of ex champions though and a future champ in Bika

Woodhall ex world champ
Reid ex world champ
Brewer Ex world champ
Mitchell ex world champ
Bika future world champ
Manfredo 2x ibo champ but shouldn't have been in there
Veit- European and world interim champ
Mktchian - European champ
Lacy was a very good champion.
Starie was a good British and commonwealth champion.
Tocker Pudwill shouldn't have been in there with Calzaghe
Thornberry was a former ibo champion but that was a few years before.
No idea how mcintyre or branko sobot got approved for world title shots.
Steve Collins had some ropey defences too but you can only fight who's in front of you.
Dingan thobella, and Glenn Catley were still about.
There must have been some good domestic champs who could have had a shot too.
Warren has improved his match making over the years

Calzaghe (especially pre-hand injuries version) would have most likely beaten the piss out of Canelo at 168. Pretty obvious who has the stronger resume overall, though

I think he has a good scrap with green, Beyer he would have squeezed past. I don't get how some of the opponents were being approved for a world title shot in honesty.
