i think the fight itself would look even but 2 of the judges would give the nod to Hagler.
most onlookers would agree it could of went either way and a draw would've been fair enough.
the 2 judges, for whatever reason, slightly prefer Hagler's very slightly superior workrate over Langford's
slightly superior power punch output. The Ref would think it could of went either way.
MD win for Hagler.
Bennie Briscoe vs Juan Roldan
12 Rounds

Can't see Hagler defeating Langford, myself, but I'm confident Briscoe'd have too much for Roldan.
Joe Calzaghe vs. Nigel Benn at 168...

Nigel Benn.. UD 12th Rounds.
I feel Benn would start of slowly and cumsy, with Calzaghe himself trying to get settled whilst starting akwardly. Early Rounds are close but tilted towards Calzaghe.
Benn Comes into his stride in the 3rd/4th Round, getting a few big hits onto Calzaghe. i feel Calzaghe would be knocked down in the middle rounds, but seems unphased.
i feel the fight would be clumsy and akward for both, but i tip Benn to lead in the cards by 1 or two rounds. A very aggressive Benn is knocked down in the latter rounds once, and Calzaghe once or two more times.
I feel if this was a Trilogy, Imo. Benn would win 2, Calzaghe 1.

Well, like i allready explained.Hagler wouldnt exactly defeat him as in get the best of him.
i think it would look like an even match basically.I'm referring to the 80-83 primetime version of Hagler as well.
Anything over MW and Langford would decisively defeat Hagler imo.
I think Briscoe-Roldan would make a heckuva scrap for a good 8 rounds or so.
Then,Briscoe would gradually decimate Roldan and win either by clear cut decision or late round stoppage.
Roldan likely would've went the distance with Hagler and made it a close one had he not been thumbed.
Only hearns and Nunn truly had Roldan's number in a decisive manner of speaking.
observer1's take on Benn-Calzahge seems realistic enough btw.And....
Since observer1 failed to provide a hypo,i'll take it from here while i'm at it.....
Arturo Gatti vs Bobby Chacon at 130. 8)

I'll take Chacon.
I don't think Gatti ever beat a "name" fighter that was still considered at his peak (Ruelas and Patterson were both past theirs).
I think Chacon finds a home for his big overhand right and busts Gatti up for a TKO.
Next up: Azumah Nelson vs. JC Chavez, jr. lightweight.

great match 8)
Zumah's problem came with workrate (or lack of it) IMO and if he couldn't land that equalizer. with Chavez' chin being what it was, I can't see Nelson stopping him. Nelson maybe gets an early lead but gets ground down a little like the Fenech fight only with more class and less wrestling. I say Chavez by S/D

Ooops sorry for not providing a hypo..
Bob Foster - Saad Muhammad
Very Intresting Match Up.
But i have to give the edge for Saad Muhammad. He was very technical and had a very good punch.
I see this going to Saad in a close but fair UD.

Morales wears him down, KO about the 10th.

Gomez by KO. Bigger, faster, stronger, more powerful, and more heart (though that might not even come into play here).
I wouldn't be surprised to see Olivares simply outclassed and overwhelmed the way Zamora was.
Next up: Willie Pep vs. Alexis Arguello, featherweights.
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

pre-plane crash Pep wins by a relatively easy UD.
post plane crash Pep visits the deck twice(round 3 & round 10) but manages to pull off a very narrow SD win.
Pipino Cuevas vs Carlos Baldomir(prime vs prime) 8)
12 Rounds(WelterWeight)

I'll take Cuevas by decision. I just don't think Baldomir brings anything to threaten him.
Next up: Azumah Nelson vs. Jorge Paez Sr., featherweights.

Nelson wins by Late rd stoppage if its a 15 rd'er...Tko14 win @2:19 for Azumah.
In a 12 Rounder,Nelson wins a clear cut UD...7-4-1,6-3-3,7-5...Paez has his moments early but Azumah figures him out.
Ray Mercer vs David Tua(Battle of the Tanks) 8)
12 Rounds.(prime vs prime obviously)

Both guys thump hard shots into one another. Testing the iron in the
jaws of their respective foes/
Mercer manages to gain an early lead, with Tua keeping the busy
punch rate in the middle rounds. Both men rally for the final few rounds
as the crowd roars excitedly.
One judge see's it for Tua, another for Mercer, the other calls it a
draw.
Abe Simon (1941) Vs Jess Willard (1915) 12 rounds.

Wow.Tough one to call.Simon actually beat Walcott in 1940.Wow.
Went into the 13th with Louis in 1941 as well.Hmmm.
I Still have to pick Willard though.
I see them both brawling away and clinching quite a bit as well, especially in the later rounds.
I dont think either boxer would land the finishing blow even throughout various back and forth barrages, flurries, and exchanges from both combatants.
Willard wins a relatively close but clear cut UD.
Archie Moore vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammed(formerly "Eddie Gregory") 8)
12 Rounds.

Moore in eight. Interesting fight to watch, while it lasts.
Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Diego Corrales at Lightweight...
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 03 Nov 2008, 11:55
by Jaywheel
Both fighters go down during the fight. Corrales keeps Marquez at bay for the first rounds, puts him down twice in the 2nd but the bell rings before he can end the job. Corrales goes down in the 5th. Fight slowly turns around in favour of Marquez. Corrales tries to outslug Marquez during the 9th and rocks him. Since Corrales had a hard time making the lightweight limit for that fight, he tires in the lates rounds and is stopped by a barrage of punches in the 11th.
Marquez W TKO 11

John Mugabi vs Edison Miranda

Mugabi simply too tough & steadfast for Miranda. Breaks him in nine.
This one'd be ugly & beautiful --- Prime Jose Luis Castillo vs. Current Juan Diaz at Lightweight...
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 05 Nov 2008, 09:19
by Jaywheel
Altough it's got a win by decision for Diaz after a stoppage from cuts and swelling on Castillo as a possible outcome, I think the power shots of a prime Castillo would wear Diaz down big time and Castillo would most probably KO him at some point. Floyd Mayweather could not run away from a prime Castillo. Diaz might have a better work rate but that left hook will connect at some point and Castillo's chin would not be affected by Diaz punches.
Gr8 fight tough.

The Duke by KO in a multiple-knockdown affair. Entertaining stuff, & a test of both men's resolve.
1999 Fernando Vargas vs. 2005 Vernon Forrest at Jr. Middle...
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 06 Nov 2008, 05:37
by Datsue
Prime Vargas takes the old Forrest on a split, disputed decision in a gruelling, sometimes thrilling affair that exposes FV's limitations whilst underlining his best attributes: heart, decent handspeed, willingness to grind out a win. Eats some huge right handers that buckle him almost to the canvas, but his 21 year old legs get him out of trouble whilst the ancient Vernon creaks after him. Vargas' face is badly messed up by the jab, however, & ringside consensus is that the former welter champ has been robbed. Shades of FV's Winky Wright fight, but with Fernando taking far more damage (which would lead to him falling apart quicker versus Trinidad!).
Wow.
Gilberto Roman (circa the Watanabe fight) vs. Danny Romero (pre-Tapia). 15 rounds.

Cooper on decision, if he's hot. When he was cold, Minto would get him.

Monzon by unanimous decision - Charles was not in his prime at middleweight.
