I mean, DW is a fine promoter but he had a pretty huge advantage of being handed the keys to the MMA kingdom by the Fertittas. Outfits like Top Rank and Golden Boy have to contend with the fact that boxing has been a big worldwide sport for 100+ years with a legacy of splintered titles and difficult co-promotional situations. Haymon has tried to copy the UFC's success with PBC but you can see the UFC model doesn't really work when there are 3 or 4 other promotions of equal or greater size.
Honestly I think the UFC has declined in quality over the last 5 years despite being (effectively) the only game in town, which I think speaks to DW's changing priorities, either due to new management or just complacency and greed.
That's just the thing though. Dana propositioned the Fertitta's with buying the UFC, which was a failing business and turned it into what it is today. There have been numerous MMA organizations that have come and gone or taken over by the UFC. UFC has not been the only game in town. But the UFC reigns supreme. When have you seen another promoter/president as hands on and interactive with the fighters, fans, and media than Dana?
I mean I mostly agree. I think DW did a tremendous job pulling the UFC out of the dark ages and really getting the sport to a wide audience throughout North America and Europe. But it's not like he was ever in the same situation as a boxing promoter like Hearn or Arum, so it's not really an apples to apples comparison.
I also think over the last several years his ego has worked to the detriment of the sport, and more generally that his decisions have become weighed more towards quick bucks than the overall growth and health of the sport.

I see what you're coming from. I agree that Dana seems to have made more decisions more recently that have just not seemed fair. Especially when it came to his overly preferential treatment of an Irish star. But I still feel that, for the most part, the fights that need to happen, happen. Much more than in boxing. He's good for that. But occasionally he'll throw someone in a title shot position that shouldn't be there. First I can remember was Lesnar. And recently talking a rematch between McGregor and Khabib that McGregor isn't deserving.
I remember watching an interview with Lorenzo Fertitta where Lorenzo said that he wanted to get into boxing. Lorenzo was a member of the Nevada Athletic Commission in the '90s. But he felt boxing was beyond repair.

Some psycho broke into Anthony Smith's house early Sunday morning a week ago. Pretty crazy account from Smith.

That's a crazy story. The guy must have been tough as hell to basically hold his own for several minutes with a 200+ pound pro fighter. Gives me a little pause when I think about how useful my 19 years of BJJ would be in a self-defense situation, especially considering I only weigh 155.
I do wonder why he didn't just choke the guy out.

It is baffling! A regular Joe weighing 155-160 gave an in-shape 205 contender in the leading fight organization in the world a tough time. I don't know your thoughts on possession but after seeing footage of this guy from a neighbor's door cam minutes before he broke into Smith's house, and Smith's bizarre account of what this guy said to Smith after the fact I wouldn't doubt if this might be a case. Or maybe PCP.

Yeah I mean he went from being asleep to fighting in probably 10 seconds. No time to think. That's why it's good to have a weapon you can reach before they can. Fuk giving someone a 50-50 chance in your own place.
In related news, read earlier about these prisoners being let out because of corona and other circumstances, some "progressive" measure. Some are repeat offenders and one broke in and held a lady at knife point after taping her up good. What an absolute dumbass mess the criminal system.

Adrenaline and panic stopped him using his skills effectively and he just went to the guys level and cave-manned it. Happens a lot. I’ve seen very good tournament fighters lose street fights with nobodies. Any of the street fights Ive witnessed with Jits guys they always lose. Nobody on the gym mats trying to bite them and gouge their eyes out.
I don't believe a word that comes out Dana White's mouth, the guy just seems like a compulsive liar to me. Part of me thinks it was simply a strategy in order to force ESPN to pull the plug, rather than the UFC, so any unfulfilled TV contract would be on ESPN and not UFC. He's essentially just wasted everyone's time, had 22 athletes go deep into camp & cuts for an event he knew wasn't happening (imo).
Tribal territories & private Islands...
Dana does have an island. Everything you're assuming makes no sense. Given Dana's track record there's no reason to think he's lying. We aren't dealing with Bob Arum here. I'm a bit confused at your stance on him.
The thing is, islands can be acquired easily (if you happen to have a small number of millions of $$$s kicking around, as I am sure the UFC does), but they are always in somebody's jurisdiction - so just find a country willing to hold an event and you don't need to buy the island. i.e. Dana is talking his usual megalomaniac but highly entertaining bullshit.

Had a funny situation just happen that I guess will post here continuing the previous page.
Had a knock on my back door, some guy standing there all beaten up and one of his hands wrapped up like a boxer, he also had boxing gloves with him. Apparently he fought his housemate, who just got out of jail, over a damn girl. He swung first and the other guy decked him, then he came straight here. I just gave him a beer n a smoke and let the scene chill. Curious about the boxing gloves though, did he actually take the time to wrap his hands and glove up to start the fight? Sounds like something someone on here would do. Anyway, seems things are settled for now, and don't be surprised to see some domestic disputes coming your way in this lockdown.

Believe it or not I could fill a page with people taking advantage of my kindness. After my dad passed I saved a room for 8 months for a friend in jail for DUI. This dude turns into a meth head and the laws in Texas are very liberal for squatters. Long story short I had to move to get rid of him, out 4k. Roommate now had no home and was on my couch then. Now he owes me 3k. A friend of his who I had just met was here when this went down. I learned he was sleeping in his car so I told him to stay here. Today he came out and said he got $100 and wanted to buy groceries. That was nice.

Goddammit, I thought the fact that the card was being postponed meant Khabib vs. Ferguson would be salvaged.

A bag of groceries. Well worth it. Yeah, I can't go that far. This guy wore out his welcome last night. Comes as no surprise he got kicked out. Just met him and disgusted with the act already.

Well, we were ordered to stay home. Special circumstances, at least he contributed what he could! Lol, he cleans too. By far the best of the 3!

Who else caught this? In the lead-in to Beterbiev vs Gvozdyk, GSP talked about his friendship with Beterbiev, refused to close the door on a bout with Khabib. More recently he said that the UFC didn't want to risk Khabib losing his belt only for GSP to vacate. (Can't imagine it doesn't take place at welterweight but whatever) Could it still happen?

Turns out that's this fukker too. A whole mess of them. Apparently they got the owner hooked and he wants to build a water tower in the neighbors yard and was mad when she wouldn't let him.
