I always heard that Europeans were strong for American musicians, especially jazz and blues artists. Many of the Black musicians in America ,though they were popular, still had to deal with discrimmination at one time. They could play on the bandstand at the hotel, but they couldn't live thare. Europe didn't have those hang ups and a lot of cats were treated really well across the pond. England had some issues, but Scandanavia and France were the spots.

I figured in Spain, especially where I was atin the South, there wouldn't be any jazz or blues. One night though i'm walking through Seville on those narrow brick streets. Around one corner and around the next. Like going through a museum. Everthing was built so long ago. Here we go to museums to remind us of the birth of Western Civilization. In Europe it's part of the community.

Well i'm meandering around and I see a sign protruding from the edge of a building. "Nico's Jazz and Blues Club" Nice . I'll give it a try. Let's see if Spain has learned anything.

Like any club of that ilk,the joint don't open its doors until late. Nothing on the front gives me a clue when it opens up,but I figure late. I peer inside trying to size things and it looks pretty cozy. A small bar. Scattered tables around a little band box. I'll be back.

I arrive around midnight and can tell the place just opened its doors. The small dark room though is starting to fill up with a casual crowd. All types. A couple of coats and ties. Blue jeans and sandals. Old and young. Open minded music for the open minded. That's par for blues and jazz. I find a table in a corner and the waiter finds me.
"I'll have a Miura and soda."
For you gents that don't know what Miura is ,it's a liquer made from a type of cherry they grow over there. Smoothe. Sneaks up on you warm and mellow. I'm relaxed. I can see the musicians setting up. They look like something out of Santana's world. Funny,I never got the name of these guys.

I can see a guitar,an upright house piano(a good sign),drum set with all the percussion gear, and a string bass. OK fellas, let me have it. Everything looks all right. Can you play? The leader gets up and starts some conversations around the room. These people must be regulars the way the interaction is carrying on. After the small talk, the group's leader says in English,"Cross Cut Saw." That's a good indicator. I'm sitting there sipping my Miura with a critical expression. Remember. I'm the American. You guys need to get my stamp of approval.

Well let me tell you they played the coolest smoothest intro to Cross Cut Saw that I ever heard. There was a photo inback of the bar of Albert King smiling. I know why. The leader starts singing the words and though he don't have a Black voice for the Blues,he's pulling it off in his own way.

I point to my glass and the waiter brings me more of the local drink. These cats had me. They ran everthing from Mose Allison to Ray Charles. The crowd had heard it before and now I could see why they kept comin' back. The group ended the set with 32 bars of Howlin' For My Darlin'. I don't know if you got religion, but the old church across the street was making noise with the church bells. Maybe Saint Peter digs the Blues. They play a riff to send it out and take a time to repair in the back. The crowd is enjoying every minute and I've got tears runnin' down my face. The waiter sees my glass is dry. Over the sound system they play Stormy Monday Blues by Bobby Bland.
"Another glass of Miura.senor?"
I didn't quite catch what he said at first, but I could figure it out easy.
" I'll tell you what. Just bring over the bottle."

I had to tell the girls to put their tops back on. Wouldn't want to corrupt you guys. That's Adam. Who cares what his name is? That's Carmen on the left and Neerma on the right. They are also Amanda's best friends in Spain.

Rick expressed to us that Denny Moyer is in a nursing home now, At first I got a little broken up. But I used to work in one of those places.I think Denny might be like one of those guys I saw in there once.

Over the bed there's a sign that reads: BEWARE! This guy bites, punches, kicks, spits, and cusses, and if he don't like the food ,he'll throw his tray at you.

If I know Moyer, he's behaving in such manner.

BTW Neerma wants to set up Amanda with her little brother and wants her first born daughter to marry Adam. I asked Neerma if i could be the father.

When I went to TJ yesterday,I talked to the guy operating Cheto's Gym about Jibaro Perez. I didn't know he made a comeback after losing to Genaro Hernandez. Said he fought in TJ against up and comers in town. When we saw him on Live Screen win the title from Lora,we all thought he'd be on top for a while, but like I said started breaking training. The guy didn't know anything about his personal life except he's in TJ. The guy at the door said they gave Jibaro an induction to the Mexican Boxing Hall of Fame a few years back.

Are those Knockout programs yours? If so you should get frames for them and hang them in a special part of a room. They're priceless.

I take real good care of them, I have them in a real COOL place! my wife have said that if I don't take them out of that COOL place, she is going to get'em and burn them.
But I think they're safe, for now!, what with her bum leg and all ,even I'm safe for a few week anyway.
