Aldo/max are very close. If max managed to regain the belt, I don't think he will, he'd clearly be above Jose. Then McGregor beat both of them. Nothing definitive there. No need for Joe to go on and on every feather fight.
Rogan has a strong tendency to overhype. He loves to proclaim whoever the current champ is to be the "unquestionable GOAT" or whatever. He should not be taken too seriously.

Can't remember which fight it was, maybe Diaz 2, in the promo he proclaimed Conor the greatest 'fencer' in mixed martial arts history

Lol, you'd be hard pressed to come up with one worse. You're to level headed not to understand how outlandish the comparison is.
It is a little extreme, sure... but not ultra crazy.

So 80/81 Ali is equivalent to Jose Aldo? Even now Aldo is still good. Ali was in terrible condition by then.

Ok guys, sorry for being too extreme. I honestly find the idea that Holloway or Volkanovksi or anyone has surpassed Aldo at 145, completely ridiculous.

How's this... Is Jermain Taylor a higher ranked all-time Middleweight than Hopkins? After all, he beat him twice...

That better? Then we'll probably have to argue about those being close decisions and not stoppages... so then I'll have to go find another example.

Your example was a good one, using a little exaggeration for emphasis. Which is fine because this is an Internet forum not a court of law :OhYes:

Good card.

Usman beats Masvidal on better wrestling and a better camp.

Not sure about Holloway/Volkanowski - maybe Max sneaks a close one and they go to a trilogy.

Yan caves poor old Aldo's face in and retires him.

Anyone think that the increasing emphasis on leg kicks is going to alter the sport, in a bad way?

Nah - competitive sport evolves constantly as people innovate and learn to counter the innovations of others. Calf kicks are fight winners at the moment. Everybody will train to both throw them and to check them, and their impact will lessen. Then people will move on some other "new" killer technique.

This is a great card, but the decision to make Aldo vs. Yan a title fight is baffling. Neither guy is #1 in the division. Neither guy is even #2 in the division. I don't know what to make of this other than a purely business-driven decision where Dana White or whoever he answers to decided that Moraes and Sterling weren't big enough stars to give a championship opportunity to.

Maybe this is just my rose-colored glasses talking but I feel like this wouldn't have happened 10 years ago. The sale to WME seems to have accelerated the move towards business oriented decision-making.

Aldo/Yan is a weird decision.. since they're probably scurrying for top fights and Sterling just fought, UFC rankings aside.. you can only feel bad for Moraes in my opinion... but his fight w/ Aldo was as close as it gets.

The only plus I can take from it is that it's a 5-round fight. Which it should be, regardless of the title.

I think you are right. I also think Rogan's rose tinted opinions of his mate, have been somewhat disrespectful, even if unintentional, to both Aldo and Volkanovski. He barely acknowledges Aldo's career prior to Conor and went on to be a bit incredulous to Volkanovski in his post fight interview after Max.

I love watching Max btw. I just think with guys like Volk, Zabit and even Yair floating in the wings, nothing is a given, and he has never dominated the division in the manner Aldo did for so many years.
