I meant I'd like to see the knockdown again - and I just did. Not as heavy as I remember (in the heat of the moment and with the amount of money I had on it I was worried Froch could be DONE) but still shocking. He just walked onto it. Way more open than his last fight, noticeably sloppier. Who knows why.

On seeing the fight again though, it would be must-see. In a 12 round contest I would favour Froch again, although his timing was poor tonight and I feel like he should retire. Before this I had Froch over Golovkin but I would worry about him for that one now.

What a disgrace! Groves out-boxed, out-punched and was ahead of Froch.

Froch don't even remember being floored in the 1st - Why didn't Howard stop it then?

That fight was beautiful by Groves against Froch. Howard Foster saved Froch a loss. Just Wrong!

Was it too early a stoppage? I think so. Was Foster right to consider it? Yes. Would Froch have won by ko? Very probably.

Carl Froch needs to think carefully about what he does next. He has no one to apologise to, he has been at the top level for five years now, longer than any other British fighter since Lennox. But he cannot get hit like that again for 3 or 4 rounds and not expect it to take a toll on his longevity.

After a truly shocking undercard, it was a great main event.
I don't know if he was "done". We'll never know but they were entering into a stage of the fight where Froch was more experienced. I think Grove's inexperience at that level told against him. Can he learn from that or has it popped his bubble?

lol, got ya now!
they're all doable at the end of the day - just human - Carl Froch ain't the Terminator, he's a good impersonation but he ain't made from steel.
I didn't see the punch, and in fairness, it didn't stop the fight...but my point from the other week was merely that nobody is really 100% immune from a good shot.

I would agree, Froch has had the wars, the glory, the belts, the money. He's got a wife and family that have to suffer each time he puts himself through it. He doesn't need the money so he really should get out. He's got more to lose now than he has to gain imo. Hope he makes the right call and doesn't end up going on too long. You suspect with Froch that he enjoys, or at the least, can't keep away from these sort of fights... :o

and future is an unspecified time in the future. Pretty clever really. Might as well be "undisputed" future people's champion seeing as nobody can dispute it yet...

was it worse than the 2 Kessler fights? I had a radio so I didn't see it first hand. I was up for going to this but you can argue with a Promotion that fcks the fans over to touts inside 20 minutes or whatever it was.
Round 6 in particular was said to be big, it sounded like Froch expended a LOT of energy in that round.

Groves was really hard done by. He was well on the way to winning, Froch was done.

Foster should not be handling fights of this magnitude and he's fucked up yet again and deprived Groves of a deserved victory.

Groves had one sticky moment and Foster makes a right royal fornicate up of things.

I feel so bad for Groves. He performed so well and cut Froch down to size, like he said he would.

A truly terrible stoppage.

Froch has lost tons of respect and rather than salvage some dignity in the post fight interview he's proved beyond any doubt what a classless worm he really is.

Groves battered him, first second to last; horrible home time big fighter stoppage; Groves won every minute of the bout and was the hardest hitter Froch ever face; Carl was scared of Georges power all way through, turning away and gurning when Groves threw. The stoppage was crooked.

Either Froch is an idiot or a complete genius who has found the perfect way to annoy me; he is a horrible man and George Groves will be the future for real. Massive star - Groves.

I have to say, it sounds like Groves ability isn't in question and they had him well up, but it didn't sound quite that one sided. Bruised eye etc and Froch was winging away at him a couple of times. At least once they said Groves got wobbled or stiffened...there was never any question about who was winning tho.
I suspected Groves would do well and start much quicker than Froch but I couldn't foresee the end. Hindsight's always easy but most people had that down as a Froch beatdown/ stoppage.

I think Glenn McCrory said the following of the stoppage afterwards: "disgraceful" dispicable" "rubbish"
Groves has already shown what great recuperative powers he has, but Foster made a terrible blunder.

Froch will be at the hospital; Groves is a new star, he made 1 million new fans tonight; I lost £10 on him winning and will bet £100 on him winning next time; what a fighter, Froch has been great but is all done now; George will do him very easily next time, the ref was crooked and too fast to jump in, he didn't do that 1st round.

Wow, I thought I was back in the 90's watching the likes of Benn and Eubank etc. Bad stoppage. I thought Groves had given his best and was tiring, it looked to me that Frock was getting back into it and maybe a stoppage was imminent. I do not think Groves had it left in him to knock Frock out but who knows. Bad stoppage but it did look like Groves was on his way, he lost all his defence but should have been given the chance to carry on it was a poor point by the ref to suddenly stop it at that point. He obviously saw something we didn't.

Not sure if a rematch would be as good but hell we all want see it. Great to see some proper action for a change though.

Well at the end of the day Foster was in the best position to see Groves was in trouble. And lets not forget this week we have a boxer who has been in, out and back in a medically induced coma!

Fighters have also died or been seriously injured after bouts in which little of note seemed to happen, so should fights be stopped as soon as one fighter lands a few shots? Froch was dropped hard--suggesting that some type of damage had been done--and there were several times in the bout when he was taking big shots repeatedly--which can lead to serious damage. Does this mean that he should have been ruled unfit to continue because what Groves was doing to him can lead to serious injuries?

What happened in some other fight says little about whether the tonight's fight should have been stopped in the circumstances. Groves was still ducking, punching back, he didn't have a broken jaw, cheekbone, or nose like Magomed did, and he hadn't been battered with clean shots for 6 straight rounds. In the overwhelming majority of cases, fighters who are in the type of trouble Groves was in don't get part of their skull removed to reduce brain swelling. That unfortunate cases like Magomed's occur every now and then doesn't mean that referees should stop fights just because one of the boxers is hurt (Groves seemed more gassed than hurt to me).

And while Foster was close to the action, so are most referees and judges who make bad decisions.

It was an early stoppage. All I was saying was perhaps Foster saw something we didn't. Perhaps Groves eyes were rolling back into his head!

Maybe. I'd like to see him give his opinion on why he stopped it and if he stands by his decision after re-watching it.
