He will not be near as successful at 155. His ground game is really lacking and he will lose a lot of the reach advantage he has at 145.

His ground game was really lacking at 145, too. His reach will be just fine at 155. Just needs to put some serious work in on the ground. It's a big part of the sport and he's a novice there relatively speaking.

I'm not sure what the deal is with his cardio, yet. There were a lot of variables at play against Diaz. Definitely wouldn't hurt to work on it, though. He already knows he needs to work on his pacing against the bigger guys.

I think he'll be just fine. That said, a different training camp would be good for him. I know he's all about loyalty, but they're not really doing him any favors. He may as well be his own trainer and manager.

I'm not guna lie, I was gutted for Conor. Vastly mis-understood on this forum it seems. However I've been a fan of Diaz since TUF5 so that softened the blow a little.

Conor definitely relies on his left hand too much, this loss should make him realize that and could very well improve him. I don't understand why he's reluctant to throw a regular high kick, he's flexible enough and has great balance and timing, could be a good weapon for him.

Aldo rematch would be a good option but I do think McGregor beats him again.

Don't write off Conor at Lightweight either. RDA would be the favourite to beat him but I think Conor matches up well with the likes of Pettis and Cowboy.

Enjoyed UFC unstoppable too. A great run of fights (injuries permitting) to look forward to over the next couple of months. Especially the Jones/Cormier, Rockhold/Weidman & Cruz/Faber rematches and Khabib v El Cucuy and Rory v Thompson.

Explain how he is "vastly misunderstood on this forum" please :TU:
Didn't you say he should be kidnapped and killed??
Kidnapped and made broke. His insults were out of line.

I saw him in an interview and he said that he had an adrenaline dump and did not handle his energy well at all. I am willing to buy that. I would doubt his cardio is lacking but I could be wrong. I just do not see him being the champ at 155 as his game stands right now. He would need to evolve more I think but I could be wrong. I thought Mendes handled CMac really well on the ground and I am looking at 155 and I think there are a lot of guys who could put him on the ground and keep him there.

It is all to hype the fight. Dana tells them to do it. That is the way the organization makes money. After the fight he and Nate were really cool and Nate was thankful CMac took the fight. Nate made 500,000 in the fight against CMac. In his last fight he made 40,000. This was the greatest thing to ever happen to Nate. He knows what it is all about. The fans get all bent out of shape but the guys involved know the game perfectly.

he had an adrenaline dump, and that was the problem? i guess its understandable, not like he's ever been involved in a big fight before or anything

He also knocks fighters and calls them pussies for not being able to stand with him. When they feel his power they go into panic mode and go for takedowns...lol. He also stated there should be no weight classes. lol... He also stated that he would rather die than tap again like he did in the Duffy fight...lol.. I think he's beginning to understand that he needs to stay at 145 where he enjoys his advantages and his punches have more effect on the little guys.

Looked much more like Holm would rather die than tap to me. McGregor quit, plain and simple. Good business move but he quit.

Do you honestly enjoy the crap Macgregor spouts? I find it all a bit sad to be honest. As I've said the guys a decent fighter but hardly what his fan boys/girls make him out. I know you said you were 'inspired' by him but fornicate, the guy is pure trash. He just contradicts himself all the time. He actually gave up his back to avoid being punched...Something he would describe as 'a pussy move'.

As for an adrenaline dump, he'd be as well admitting he shat himself.

As I said earlier, I may come across more pro McGregor than I actually am because of the amount of negativity coming his way on this thread which leads me to at least try and balance it out. I am not a fan boy (Whatever that term means). I can see clearly and fully understand when he embarrasses himself just as I understand when he deserves respect.

And yes I take inspiration from success.

Go back and watch that first left hand land from Diaz. He might not have "shat himself" but reality came crashing down and he became what he coins "a panic wrestler" to quit and avoid further damage.

Every prospective opponent saw the same thing. When it got tough, he quit, plain and simple. Diaz called it before the fight, "rich kids shouldn't fight."

It will be interesting to see how he comes back from this. He looked for all the world like a defeated Siamese fighting fish in there Saturday night. After defeat, Siamese fighting fish go away and die.

I hear a lot of talk from his fans about going down in weight.... who in the history of combat sports has beefed up for a higher weight class then successful went back down again?

I struggle to think of any boxers who have bulked up and went back down, a few obvious disasters come to mind (such as DeLaHoya). Maybe fighters in the UFC have done it before though?

Image

He looks horrific at 145lb, and i question if his success that those lower weights is down to his ability to drain then beat-up smaller fighters.

I thought he was in pretty good shape at 168lb at the weigh in, shaving another 23lb off that physique i'd imagine at this stage isn't going to serve him well at all.

Truthfully though, I don't think he's that good, but would like to have seen the guy in a boxing ring.

I bet a few quid on Nate by Submission (10/1) without ever having seen Diaz fight, purely going by McGregor struggling on the ground against Mendes at a much lower weight. He thoroughly outboxed Diaz though in the first round (thought my money was in the bin after 2 or 3 minutes in truth) and without doubt is the most skilled puncher i've seen (in the little UFC i've watched).

But his defense, in a boxing sense, isn't very good at all, very little head or lateral movement, etc. The trouble with MMA, unlike boxing, is when you are rocked, you are in big trouble. You can't simply clinch and recover like boxing because your opponent has all kinds of wrestling and kicking/knee options when up close that you have to find the energy & mental strength to defend against.

When McGregor got hit with that left hand behind the jab it was all over, he was a sitting duck, but had he been a boxer, i think he would have had enough left to clinch and recover.

All this talk about McGregor vs Mayweather was utterly absurd, and he clearly has used boxing's biggest name to further his own PR. With a good defensive boxing coach though, perhaps someone in the frame of Adam Booth or Virgil Hunter, i believe could have made a decent boxer out of McGregor.

I think that Caldo was correct in pointing out that McGregor was training / cutting for 155 and the act of stopping that process well down stream and preparing for 170 fvcked his training up to a significant degree. Caldo also correctly pointed out that McGregor looked puffy coming in and your photos above support that, imo. While McGregor looks healthier in a normal sense in the 170 photo, he looks more like a vicious, starving fighting dog in the 145 photo.

Because the prep for 170 was in the last couple of weeks, I do not think that it will effect him as much as in a RJJ way. He did not build up to the weight, putting on extra muscle, etc. He did not have time. Essentially, he fought at or near his walking around weight. IMO, he should have continued training as if he was fighting at 155. He would have been better prepared physically. He may have had better control of his energy. But one thing would not change, he would have still been rocked if hit with that left hand.

The fact that the original fight was made for 155 suggests that McGregor is having issues with 145, as his team has acknowledged recently. But, after Saturday night, it is obvious that he MUST make it back down to 145. The elite of 155 are drooling at the prospect of making him quit, a la Diaz.

Is McGregor actually considering sticking around at 155? I had just assumed McGregor/Edgar would happen now. Not that McGregor/Alvarez or McGregor/Pettis sound like bad fights to me, but I'd really like to see the FW division maintain some continuity.

Yep. And Edgar deserves it beyond anyone else at this point.

In the past two years Aldo has fought twice. A decision win over Mendes and a KO loss to Conor.

In the past two years Edgar has fought 4 times. Wins over Penn, Swanson, Faber, and Mendes. All but Faber by stoppage. He deserved the title shot before McGregor as well. If the UFC wants to do the decent thing, they should make the Edgar fight. It makes the most sense. Aldo may get hurt again, and he is just too inactive.... not to mention we already saw the fight.

Conor's coach is already saying they want Aldo. And the UFC will probably grant it.

I really hope he gets it. He called Dana out on it during the FS1 post fight show. Dana said to expect a phone call soon.

I'd take Edgar. His movement is good, and his conditioning is always top notch. I feel he can move well enough to set up take downs and either win by UD or sub. I would usually not pick Edgar for a sub win, or a stoppage in general, but Mac's submission defense looks almost non existent at this level. And Edgar has recent stoppages over top guys.

Technically no, but only because he and Diaz weren't forced to cut any weight. They were both pretty much LW-sized for that fight.
