you guys want to see moses itauma never land a punch? when you put itauma on a string and kite him around the ring even just a tiny bit he will follow you around doing his beloved up down jab feint schtick on a repeat. want to know how to take that away? you just gotta scoot back. just scoot back even just a tiny bit when he tries to stand there to do his schtick and he'll be reaching and lunging and missing all night.

How much did you make on this fight then? Very easy to 6-7x if you didn't think it was an upset, ie. the market mispriced the fight?

Personally i made 4 figures but not enough.

He's announced as Enriko at every fight at the Europeans, all available on YouTube, it was his name on his medical card. We are still waiting for the date, venue and opponent you witnessed Tyson being announced as Luke. I can't believe you're letting him call himself Moses.

I haven’t watched it back on TV but I was there last night and, having seen enough hype trains derailed in my time, never thought this was a particularly good fight for Moses at this stage and figured that we might see an upset.

So… what a great fight! Best one I’ve been to live in years! Low level but relatively entertaining undercard (a couple of fun crap heavyweight fights) and some solid bits of crowd violence :bag:

Moses landed the kitchen sink on Hrgovic and just going into every round trying to KO him when he’s never ever even looked liked being KO’d in his career (Even the Zhang KD, Zhang kind of just dragged him to the floor) was not smart boxing and you could just see Hrgovic gradually drowning him. Not the greatest bit of matchmaking from Fwank who should shoulder some of the blame.

.Ben Davison is the real villain of the piece here in my opinion. He keeps on being handed very talented guys and all of them get the shit beaten out of them and stopped or just manage to pull out a from behind win. Itauma clearly has all of the talent in the world and put on quite the show in the early rounds but when it became clear that Hrgovic wasn’t going anywhere, where was the corner advice to take a round off or go for a walk or just get behind your jab for a bit? There was no plan B. Davison is a charlatan conman. It’s so obvious, why do all of these big promoters and managers trust him with their fighters health?

Big congratulations to Filip Hrgovic! The likes of Joshua and Fury have barely ever said his name for their careers and he has been slugging away for a long time, taking whatever scraps he’s been thrown just to keep a career going and finally getting a well deserved shot. I wonder where he’ll go from here? A unification with Kabayel in Germany could be on the cards for him, surely?

Brilliant fight from both men who gave it everything. Back into the gym for Moses and a rebuild. He is, after all, only 21, not much proper amateur experience and has, if we look past all of the massive overhype, given a brilliant account of himself against a serious seasoned pro who could’ve been world champ already with different ref in the Dubois fight. I hope meanwhile Hrgovic can get himself some big fights.

Moses Itauma is 'well' after leaving hospital following loss to Filip Hrgovic

Moses Itauma was released from hospital late Saturday night following his shocking loss to Filip Hrgovic and is back at home, Queensberry Promotions have confirmed.

Itauma, 14-1 (12 KOs), started at a frantic pace in London, England, to dominate the early going in his quest to win the vacant IBF heavyweight title. The 21-year-old’s effectiveness painted Hrgovic’s face crimson, as blood leaked from several wounds.

The 34-year-old Croatian’s skin, unlike his will, has always been prone to breakage, however.

Hrgovic, after a hellacious first round, retained his composure under substantial fire. Thunderous blows bounced from his face and body as Itauma, well ahead, continued to look for the home run with every punch he threw. The exhaustion that was building through the middle rounds was perhaps inevitable but nonetheless shocking to witness.

By the ninth, Itauma could barely stand. As he sagged into the ropes and was then unable to regain his balance, the towel came in at the exact moment that the referee opted to stop the fight.

Hrgovic, 21-1 (16 KOs), had long warned Itauma that the gulf in experience would be the deciding factor. Though proved correct, he repeatedly remarked that Itauma – eventually carried from the ring on a stretcher – is the best fighter he’s ever shared a ring with who would come back to ultimately rule the heavyweight division.

For now, though, Itauma can only rest.

“Moses is well,” a spokesperson for Queensberry confirmed on Sunday.

“He left the hospital last night after being checked over and is now back at home with his family.”

Warren Unsure What’s Next For Hospitalized Itauma

Moses Itauma was taken straight to a hospital after his stunning stoppage defeat to Filip Hrgovic on Saturday night at O2 Arena.

The 21-year-old betting favorite, who attempted to become Britain’s youngest world heavyweight champion, had worked his way into a healthy lead on the cards. The Croatian turned the tide and stopped Itauma with 33 seconds left in the ninth round.

There were worrying scenes at the fight’s conclusion, with Itauma unable to stand up and fire back by the time referee Howard Foster decided to stop the fight. Itauma (14-1, 12 KOs) was given oxygen in the ring and left the arena on a stretcher.

His promoter, Frank/Warren, who confirmed that the southpaw from Chatham, Kent suffered a leg injury, now says it will be up to the youngster to decide if he wants to box again.

“Moses has gone to the hospital, he’s done something to his leg and obviously he has to be checked out,” Warren said. “It was a grueling fight, a fast-paced fight and that’s where he’s at. I don’t know what’s happened [to his leg], but he’s gone to hospital. He was knackered. He had oxygen, quite rightly, it was a very, very fast-paced fight.

“He was throwing punches on instinct at the end and he did catch him a couple of times while he was still fighting like that. I think the referee gave him a chance, and it was the right decision in the end.”

When pressed on what may be next for Itauma, the Hall-of-Fame promoter said, “It’s too early to be making those sorts of decisions. I just want to talk to him first and he will have to want to do it, which I’m sure he will. If he comes back, I’m sure he will, we’ve just got to learn from it and move forward.

“I still think he’s one of the most unbelievable talents that I’ve ever been involved with in my time in boxing. We are with him and we will stick with him. I don’t know what he’s going to say. I’m sure he’s a fighting man and he showed that right until the end. You find out the caliber of a guy in times like this and you learn from it. I’m sure he will.”

Warren did not get the chance to speak to Itauma, who he signed as a teenage prospect, before he left the arena for the hospital. The Queensberry Promotions boss now says he will let the dust settle on what happened against Hrgovic (21-1, 16 KOs) before attempting to discuss the future with Itauma.

“I wouldn’t even go there at the moment,” Warren said. “Mentally, he’s going to be completely down, so we will have to talk to him and lift him. He will take some time out, go and have a nice break. It’s not even the time to talk to him about it at the moment. It’s probably one for two weeks or a month’s time. Then we will see where we go with it.

“How long does it take a fighter to recover physically and mentally? That all depends on the fighter. But we do know his aura of invincibility is gone now. Who knows? Maybe that will make it easier for us to make fights for him now.”

I have little real idea whether Davison is a good trainer or not but based on what we saw I'd probably agree ok trainer poor cornerman.

But shouldn't there be a little more onus on Moses himself - if you're feeling knackered you lay off the gas/power and pepper your opponent.

That self awareness requires a certain maturity it might come with experience but some fighters never develop it. Thats what differentiates the real champions they are able to adapt on the fly - their fight IQ.

I recall how Calzaghe was getting clipped by Kessler early and adjusted mid fight rather than "trying harder". I'm not sure a trainer can teach that.

I guess from a betting standpoint it may have been a massive upset (full disclosure, I'm not a gambler, so I don't know), but I don't think that was the case from a boxing standpoint. Itauma is a flashy fighter with an expectation of doing big things in the division, but some questioned if it was too much, too soon for a match against Hrgovic, who is an experienced fighter with some pop on his punches. Personally, I thought Itauma would be too slick and too precise for the Croat, and for much of the fight he was, but it became painfully obvious when he ran the tank dry and Hrgovic took advantage of it.

He can improve his stamina a ton without losing his explosiveness. Plenty of explosive fighters with stamina around, even in the heavyweight division. Hell, even Mike Tyson could go hard for 12 rounds in his prime.

I agree that in boxing terms it can hardly be called a massive upset, not when there was a massive box on Moses’ cv that didn’t have a tick in it, going into this fight.

Looking at that clip further up Moses probably did hurt his right leg at some point, possibly a hyper extension when he was staggering around absolutely shattered. Obviously it had no bearing on the end result though.

I always think stamina is not a fatal flaw. I mean, you can build up stamina can’t you? Not like a real fatal flaw like a fragile chin.

The never having sparred 12 rounds story is absolutely shocking, I mean what the hell are they thinking?

Three good things for Moses out of the disaster.

He showed great fighting heart.

He showed a good chin.

And he showed he’s an awesome offensive fighter when he’s on it, like a young Mike Tyson. Those first few rounds he was like a 230ib harbour shark, there’s not many heavyweights would’ve survived the onslaught.
Obviously the big man Hrgovic has an out of this world chin.

Moses will be back and he’ll have everyone back on board with a couple of vicious blast outs before grabbing a world title- I’d say no doubt about it.

Hundred percent ditch Ben Davidson, the useless bum bottled throwing in the towel ( again ) because he didn’t want it on his shoulders.. who cares if his man’s getting a shell hacking, just like the Wardley fight .. then threw it just after the ref waved it ( look I tried to save my fighter! But it wasn’t me! in case Frank gets angry ) How can these people be putting their multi million pound talents in this bozo’s hands ?

Even Abe Sanchez would be better, who’s getting the plaudits for telling his man to basically go out and get punched repeatedly on the chin until his opponent collapses with exhaustion.

It was a pair of pissed up white English blokes who didn't know where their seats were and kept on getting moved on by people as they would just sit in somebody's seats when they went to the bar. They did it 3 times near us and people were sort of taking them for a bit of a joke, it was an older bloke and a younger bloke, maybe a father and son? Anyway, during the main event it suddenly all went mental on the other side of the walkway to us and I couldn't see the old boy but I could see the younger bloke throwing hands and I think he took out several people. It was far out. I had to force myself to look away when security finally got involved as the fight I'd paid to see was happening in front of me.

But it was second best fight of the night.

There was another big brawl on the other side of the arena to me in the far corner, I think during the Sam Noakes fight? It was the rowdiest show I've been to for some time. Conversely, we spoke to quite a lot of people throughout the evening and everybody was very nice.
