Smith really is terrible, he starts his interview on the boxing news podcast by making a joke that “southpaws should be shot at birth” to give context to his claims that it was a scrappy hard to score fight. It’s ok making jokes like that with your mates but as the leading figure in British boxing he should display more gravitas.

I watched it again, I can see why it splits opinion as many of the rounds were scrappy. I think the issue is some of the rounds Catterall won he looked more dominant but the rounds Taylor won he "just" nicked them. Unless there's a knockdown they are still scored as 9-10 or 10-9 rounds. So when you add the scores up its closer than it looks.

not sure there was much split in the opinion tbh, basically 2 blind mice (who of course are the official judges, giving dat predictable a-side love) and then everyone else

what did you have it?

for me the issue is that cat landed more in most rounds, landed far cleaner most rounds, scored a kd, really hardly got hit with anything flush......yet still lost. i just dont see the basis on which jt wins it. i get what you're ssaying and it can lead to scores being closer than we thought at first, but that doesnt fully account for this decision.

I had Catterall winning but only by a round which surprised me I had it that close. But as I said you can clearly win one round and marginally lose the next so it will be a draw on the scorecards, even though you look like you clearly winning. I can see why some rounds went to different fighters, it was that sort of scrappy affair.

a round can be very scrappy, with lots of wrestling, headlocks, etc.....yet one guy can still clearly land more shots and much better shots. josh could hardly put a clean hand on him, yet got his own head repeatedly snapped back by 1-2s and 1-2-1s.

scrappiness isnt the same thing as a round being a swing round or even a close round. i just dont see it for jt, especially with a kd against him

not to mention that whole 'shot at birth' cliche basically pertains to the difficulty of fighting southpaws for orthodox fighters

of course, as this was southpaw vs southpaw, it's a fvcking same stance matchup Adam there are no problems with the angles because, stop me if I'm getting too technical here, IT'S THE SAME FOR THE FVCKING PAIR OF THEM, you tiny-fisted imbecile

Southpaws are very common now in the ams. I'm pretty sure no more people are being born left handed, so must be a shift in trainers attitude. So, yeah, shut up Tiny Fists BEAN.

there is quite possibly truth in the rumour that Smith hates southpaws in particular because the angle makes it difficult to land his well-known honey punch, the left hook.

when he sees a southpaw, you see him, cracking the knuckles and rubbing his left fist in a threatening manner. The offending southpaw generally slopes off, thanking fate for having been born left-handed and his mother for not drowning him at birth.

What did you score it? Taylor pressed the fight more in the later rounds so I can see why he would get recognition for that, I still think he lost but I can see why the scorecards are controversial.

I'm getting a bit confused CP. It's Robert Smith here, not Adam, isn't it? Not that Adam doesn't deserve regular lambasting.
In this instance it does seem to be a convenient cop out by Smith to refer to two southpaws = a messy fight but I think the view is that both boxers would not be as used to facing a southpaw as they would an orthodox style.

:D I hadn't heard it at the time to be honest. When you mentioned the left hook I thought you must have meant Callum, Liam or Paul...but in my bones I knew you meant the king of the cobbles.

:yay:

it's as synonymous with Adam as the gazelle punch for Floyd Patterson, or Chavez's left hook to the body, Tyson' famous right uppercut

Ah, I do love the contrast between social media posts (a) carefully drafted by a fighter's team as part of image management; and (b) by the fighter himself when you can almost hear the angry thumbs.

Welcome to 2022.
Someone who is tremendously thick who thinks they are tremendously intelligent with access to an audience of 1000s seeking recognition from them.
It’s like a drug. He’s had a fair bit of recognition from purists recently and obviously craves it now.
The fall out from the Cat fight hurting him hard.
He’s the type of guy who sits there are reads every comment.
He’d be so much better just coming off Twitter.

115-110 cat, i dont think there is much disagreement over who should've won, overwhelmingly people scored for cat. the controveersy isnt a split on who should've taken it, it';s the outrage over jt getting it
