AJ's best bet is Chisora or Whyte (or Joyce?) in spring then see where the title picture is after the dust has settled. Maybe Fury for a vacant title after Usyk retires undefeated?
We surely must all agree now that Joshua has been protected and overrated. A lot of careful matchmaking got him where he is, and I hope the posters from years back who argued that he would beat Lennox Lewis will be more hesitant about boarding future hype trains. I'm not confident he could beat Frank Bruno and Shannon Briggs in the 90s.
A two-time champ for beating Charles Martin and Andy Ruiz. Probably a 100m in the bank. Good lord.
You bring up Charles Martin like it's his biggest win but conveniently ignore Klitschko, Parker, Povetkin, Pulev and Whyte. He unified three belts and beat former, current and future belt holders. You can't deny he has depth in his wins for this era. He also didn't duck Usyk and didn't duck the rematch either, same against Ruiz. He signed to fight Fury and had Hearn offer Wilder a chunk of change for that fight too. He also surely has more mandatory defences than any active heavyweight combined. I think the argument that he has been protected is not a great one.
Exactly, people claim he is overrated - I think that is just pure bias against him. He has a comparable resume to Usyk and better than probably everybody else in his era. He's done as well as he can, avenged his defeat against Ruiz, came up short against Usyk who will be an all time great IMO and has lost to Dubois. No shame in any of that IMO. Hopefully he sticks around, faces Fury hopefully even Wilder is an option. He's been a good heavyweight, nobody thinks he's a great and has done well to earn what he has because of his popularity. Fair play to him

What was your bet? Dubois to win was 9/2 only
Dubby was 17/5 when I stuck a fiver on him.
Right. 9/2 was best price. What was the Dubois stoppage line though? Maybe Tarquin bet on stoppage?

I never saw AJ beating DD from when it was announced. The Ruiz fight ruined him. AJ has never been the same since.
In all honesty when AJ came onto the scene I'll admit I never spoke a word wrong about him. I thought this guy would rule the world for years. Unfortunately in life we very rarely want to experience trauma over and over. I'm not a sportsman so my example of trauma is hitting a 40 tonne loaded truck head on in my car. That hurt. The physical pain lasted about 6 weekend but the mental pain lasted years.
Every time I came to the part of the road where I hit that truck I had shivers down my spine and could relive the whole moment again. Also I would always slow down at that part of the road even if it was clear. 30 years ago I had a car and to this day when I pass that layby I vision the car I hit and still see the 2 old people sat in it.
I'm guessing in similar fashion when you get hit on the chin in devestating fashion no matter how physically strong you are your brain is wired to avoid that similar trauma again.
It happed to David Price and I'm sure we could think of many boxers who's careers have gone down him after their first traumatic loss. Humans have a survival instinct, it's called stress. We tend to avoid trauma.
Unfortunately for AJ, David Price saw the signs and accepted it and retired. No AJ will fight on but the same will happen again if he fights DD. Unfortunately AJ's motivation is money and he's trying to amass a huge pension pot, however he will lose to DD again and any other world class boxer. You don't get knocked out and recover from it totally.
Great post re impact of trauma

Looks like the desire is still there which is crucial, don't matter if you are cooking yourself, if you go in there thinking you are chinny and can't fight you have no chance.
The mind and self belief is the most important thing in boxing

I can't see him beating any heavy handed guy that is willing to actually have a go back, I'd even pick guys like Miller to do the same now. As for the rematch clause, how does that even work? DD was the champ, also would the IBF allow it? Would they see him as a worthy challenger now? In all probability yes as they would get 3% of the purse, but you know what I mean.

Incidentally I've only just caught up with the Liam Gallagher mini concert. Didn't actually think it was that bad, although obviously my expectations were extremely low after hearing everyone slating it. Hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for the reunion gig at all. Although if anyone wants to offer me a grand for my ticket, I will probably consider it

There isn't a rematch clause.

fWank recognises there is a rematch clause, but states it was only in AJs contract .. not sure how that works exactly though.
My guess is fWank put Dubois on the Fury path of easy defences against the Chisora's or Nganous for the foreseeable until a big money Usyk rematch comes along.

Glad to hear it BB, sadly I don't think they hold it together through rehearsals, let alone the first gig.
One brother is about 10x more wealthy than the other, so only one really needs this.

Noel will still have a shed load more money, he wrote almost all the songs, and their stuff gets plenty of plays so his royalties will be absolutely enormous.
Noddy Holder said he gets around 500k every year from their christmas song along. Imagine how much Noel is earning a year.

Agree with that, and he must have some confidence should the rematch happen. He came back to beat Ruiz in decisive fashion (if a little boring) and could well do the same again.
Dubois is no ATG, his shots (apart from the lovely jab) are so telegraphed that any top tier guy will see them coming. Joshua just failed the basics for some reason, and got greedy when he had success. Not stepping straight back with his hands down and his chin out for instance.. basic stuff and he knows better, and can do better.
