Big John Fury called out
Re: Big John Fury called out
I read that this fella did it as a private giggle between mates then someone went and stuck it online to stitch him up!
Re: Big John Fury called out
Maybe you could point us towards one or two of these well documented times of your dads?mickey1975 wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 05:00My dad does his own. It’s well documented his times in North Yorkshire. He stopped competing when he got to 31. He classes park runners as “joggers”.
Not that I`m suggesting your dad has maybe exaggerated his running times a little bit ... or even for one minute your telling us anything but the truth; but there are certain people who are not as truthful as you and I, and just being able to verify your dads claim will keep those sceptical readers on here quiet.
Out of interest to get some perspective. The fastest 5k Parkrun time is apparently 13:48 by the then 20 year old British professional triathlete Alex Yee.
The world record for fastest woman to run a Parkrun 5k was the 28 yr old 2018 British 10,000m champion Charlotte Arter with a time of 15:49 .. and demonstrates how fast a runner your dad was to have done a 31 minute 10k when he was in his 40`s ... so whilst anybody who regularly runs 10k would not consider those times to be by `joggers` ... its understandable why you dad would do so.

He’s done triathlons, even a quadrathon, where two people died so it got banned. 2 miles swimming, 50k race walk, 100 miles bike, marathon.
I’m not going to gain anything lying about his achievements or put his name up on here. He was 47 when he got under 32 minutes.

The best of luck with getting any answers to your questions, tonyevs. I'm still waiting for him to tell me when Frank Grant told him Pigg Wilson's sparring story wasn't true.tonyevs wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 12:16Maybe you could point us towards one or two of these well documented times of your dads?mickey1975 wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 05:00My dad does his own. Re: Big John Fury called out
Mickey1975 claimed in this thread Frank Grant told him the sparring story was false at a show in Leeds, but never said when the show happened. He now says the show was two years ago. If you look at the "John Fury" thread you'll see he still believed the sparring story was true as late as November 2019. Was finding out worth the wait?Cyclops wrote: ↑16 Apr 2020, 17:35See, you've got a proper story that's cool and if true and Tyson fulfils his potential and retires as one of the heavyweight greats, then you're part of history. Kudos.JMac wrote: ↑16 Apr 2020, 17:09In 2006 at the U-19 world championships in Morocco, Tyson was on the English team. Big John was there with him. I was a R/J. We were there for about 10 days. I spoke with both Fury's a lot during that time. I found them both very nice to talk to. Tyson was pretty quite for the most part. John told me some interesting stories about bare knuckle fights. He said he didn't like pro boxing for himself as there were too many rules. I got a picture of me and him in a boxing pose and one were I'm standing next to Tyson with my arm straight up over my head just reaching Tyson's chin. I'm like 5' 9". John is a big dude too. I've misplaced the pictures and have been looking for them.
Currently the tension in this thread comes from some established posters essentially calling Micky, another established posters, a liar. Who knows if he'll be vindicated, or humiliated?
It's terribly exciting.

31 minutes is a very respectable time - top club runner standard. The best database for English athletics and road race performances is Power of 10, which I think holds comprehensive records going back to at least 2006; https://thepowerof10.info/tonyevs wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 12:16Maybe you could point us towards one or two of these well documented times of your dads?mickey1975 wrote: ↑06 Sep 2020, 05:00My dad does his own. I’d be quite surprised if Big John could finish in the top ten of the under 55’s in his local Lancaster 3 Bridges 10km race, which is more of a decent organised fun run than a serious club competition. I managed 38 minutes there many years ago. The results from last year; http://www.lancasterathletics.co.uk/rac ... 8b305036b2
Maybe what he means is that he’s the fittest over 50 person who does boxing training in a gym? It seems quite hard in a way to measure heavyweight fitness, as to be fair in running, swimming and cycling the extra weight is just a handicap.

No, I know exactly what I mean. He’s never been in any gym, boxing or otherwise, he’s international standard race walker and top club runner. I don’t know how many times I can say it!

According to the latest guidlines I could find sparring is still prohibited. As soon as it isn't mickey1975 can expect a PM from me.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑07 Sep 2020, 07:25Have you two had your ‘spar’ yet? I'm looking foward to seeing if mickey1975 is the 6'4" 17 stone adonis he claims to be, or the 5'9" red-faced, overweight alcholic Pigg Wilson says he is. I'll take it easier on him if he's the latter.
