Camacho boxes the same kind of rings around Castillo, IMO, as he did vs Ramirez (who was better than JLC, IMO), something like 10 rounds to 2/ 9 to 3.
Next:
Bobby Chacon vs Rocky Lockridge, 15 rounds, featherweight.

this is a close one. not a ciggy paper between them but i think chacon eeeeeks out the slightest margin of victory over the impressive lockridge. surprisingly no knock downs.
karl mildenburger v tony galento - somewhere in germany with both fighters in great shape. (c'mon, remember this is a hypothetical match up game)

Galento is hot and furious early on, dropping the German.
BUt after 5 rounds, Mildenberger manages to stay the more
active, by the end of the fight it is his arms that are raised
as the victor.
Mildenberger MD10.
Stanley Ketchel (1909) Vs Samuel Peter (2006) 12 rounds

Mildenberger MD10.
Stanley Ketchel (1909) Vs Samuel Peter (2006) 12 rounds
Ketchel does some considerable damage early.Displays Some Very Good front runner stuff.Onlookers are stunned by Ketchel's toughness and tenacity. Both go down in the early going and the action is furiously entertaining for a Good 7 rounds. But,eventually,Peter's size and leverage prevails.I think Peter catches em with a booming right hand looper in Round 10.
Ketchell hits the deck, then gets up,but soon,he hits it twice more and the Ref steps in to do his job.Peter by 10th Round TKO.
Candidate for fight of the year.
Next Up:
Frank Bruno vs Ron Lyle
12 Rounds.
No 3 KD Rule.

by Goodnight, Irene
Bruno gave the crowd their money's worth, upsetting the experts by scoring a surprisingly heavy second-round knockdown. Lyle finished the stanza trapped along the ropes & in trouble, holding on as the largely-British audience went ballistic. Another good round followed in the third for Bruno, before he suddenly & unexpectedly hit the deck himself in round five from what seemed a glancing blow. He was up & uninjured, but never held the upper-hand again, eating Lyle's jab & succumbing to the uppercut, which Lyle landed over & over in the eighth round, before finally felling Bruno for good in the tenth.
Castillo & Mancini at 135...

In a twelve round fight I see Castillo winning a close decision and over fifteen rounds I see a late TKO of Castillo or a cut induced stoppage of Mancini.
Kid Azteca vs Benny Paret
10 rounds
welterweight
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

by harrygreb
the kid finally nails benny in round 14 of 15 rounds action that could have gone either way until paret tired markedly in the 11th and took a knee (up at 6).
from then on azteca sensed he could finish paret with just one clean attack. benny largely and cleverly avoided his punches until a right to the body opened up the gates for a storming, swarming mexican two handed assault which brought the proceedings to a close. both men consider their futures after this gruelling bout.
john h stracey v colin jones - an all brit world welterweight clash

Jerry Quarry vs Zora Folley

Quarry the aggressor, Folley the counter puncher....goes more than six rounds, Folley wins by a TKO on cuts....
Luther McCarty vs Buddy Baer, 10 rounds
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 05 Jan 2009, 00:07
by Robinson
both men bang away from a far Baer looking to wrestle with
aggression on the inside as Luther looks to slam the jab or
left hook home and then cross.
The fight takes a slowish pace in the middle rounds, both men
clinching often and then at a distance exchanging wild heavy
shots but with no set up or follow up.
By the later rounds Baer seems the more fresher, though McCarty
does his best to land a finishing home run shot.
Baer MD 12.
Evander Holyfield 1988 Vs Eddie Machen 1959 12 rounds.

Interesting spectacle. I think Holyfield has his problems in this bout, & most of them come early --- Machen was always a capable slickster, & he doesn't have to worry about a jab anywhere near as potent as Liston's --- but ultimately, there is a class divide here, & Cmmander 'Vander finds a way down the stretch (there's a switch, as Holyfield has often faded late). Holyfield, close, on points.
Lou Ambers vs. Alexis Arguello at 135, over fifteen rounds...
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 05 Jan 2009, 08:32
by harrygreb
what a match. ambers poses problems for arguello from the off. whenever alexis sees an opening and is about to launch an attack ambers isnt there. excellent subtle movement from lou and his stiff punches land with frequency in the first 4 rounds. after that though arguello starts to jab with real authority and seems to have worked out the hurricane for a couple of rounds. ambers, though, now ups his aggresion and is having more success. its turning into a real bruising battle when Ambers throws a left in the 11th which catches arguello high on the head followed up by a crisp right to the jaw - arguello goes down for an 8 count and fights like a lion to survive the round. the 12th sees more punishing shots from ambers and alexis goes down again for a count of 4. ambers cant quite finish him and alexis shows great recooperative powers to stay in this fight of fights.
the 13th goes amazingly to arguello - where is he getting his energy? - the 14th is drawn, in the 15th arguello tries hard to deliver a KO blow to the exhausted ambers who is only throwing the odd wild swing in retaliation and moving away as best he can. Its ambers turn to survive the round and the match and wins a unanimous decision over a disappointed arguello.
henry armstrong v jack dempsey (the nonpareil). you choose the gloves, the weight and the number of rounds.

You're a sadist! & Armstrong pulls out quite the narrow decision over fifteen.
What could've been --- Castillo-Corrales III. Signed for 2006, what would've happened?
Pssst...
On the undercard --- Golota (1996) vs. Tua (1999)...

by allworld80
Castillo wins the rubber match here. You could see the signs in the second fight that Corrales was slowing down. UD.
The 1996 version of Golota was a beast. But Tua was a bigger one. Tua ends this one early with a lighting left hook. KO3
Juan Manuel Marquez vs Lou Ambers @ 135
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

marquez wins in 4 rounds with ambers having been down once in every round and twice in the last. lou's poor showing is likely to be a consequence of the short time between this one and his tough but successful bout with alexis arguello only a few posts ago.

Give us a matchup.
While waiting, I'll throw this one a viewer threw at Russ Amber on his show:
Duran(between Moore and Hagler) vs Ayala jr. - 1983, 154 lbs.

by Goodnight, Irene
Ayala on a close decision. Shows Duran too much respect, but gets it done.
Fasten your seatbelts...
Vargas (1999-2000) vs. Margarito (Present) at Jr. Middle. Heart, blood, & balls to the bitter end...but for whom?
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 07 Jan 2009, 12:27

Tons of heart from Fernando, and he has his moments. But Margarito by a late, accumulation TKO.
Vic Darchinyan vs Johnny Tapia @ 115

Great fight. IMO, Tapia. Close.
Keeping the theme with little big men, Jeff Fenech vs. Rafael Marquez at Bantamweight. Twelve rounds, gents.
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 07 Jan 2009, 17:24
by harrygreb
fenech has a torrid first 3 rounds against marquez suffering a KD in round 2 that made the referee think twice about letting him continue. good thing he did because jeff collected his thoughts and made a terrific comeback through 4-5 and 6. rafael, perhaps taking a breather during these rounds, then really gave fenech a working over and after another KD from a vicious right uppercut the man in the middle saved the aussie from further punishment. great fight.
joe bugner v ingemar johannsen
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

by Robinson
A good match. Tough fight for both men.
I do see Ingo looking to bomb that right hand in and
try to drop Bugner..but the bigger Joe manages to stay
afloat and cruises to a close points win over the 15.
Bert Cooper vs Marvis Frazier 12 rounds around 1987...
both at their best. The fight for smoking Joe's replacement.
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

by Goodnight, Irene
Cooper outclasses Frazier through three rounds, & then batters him into submission in the fourth. This is assuming Cooper came in in top form (no sure thing, even at the best of times). Cooper was an under-rated handful, when on-song.
Max Baer vs. Joe Walcott over fifteen rounds. The big right hand or the cute left hook? Baer proved he could catch out a gifted, clever counter-puncher in Schmeling, though the German wasn't as elusive or inventive as Walcott. On the other hand, Walcott doesn't have Schmeling's sturdier chin. What happens here?
Undercard: Kelly Pavlik vs. Antwun Echols at 168, primes --- Bombs away! (OK, I'll stop cheating from now on, LOL).
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Posted: 07 Jan 2009, 21:24
by Robinson
Walcott beats Baer, only after being bombed to the canvas twice.
Walcott is able to recover and manages to take the later rounds,
out working and boxing with superb counters and delicious moves
off the ropes.
Walcott UD15.
Echols gets the Ko over Pavlik. A war it is, but the Gods favour Echols
on this day. TKO 6.
Bert Cooper vs Dwight Qawi, peak for peak, 12 rounds.
And....
George Foreman (1991) vs Billy Conn (1941) 15 rounds...
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game

by Goodnight, Irene
Love to be proven wrong, but I see my man going down via a fifteen-round decision. Don't count Big George out, but, more often than not IMO, he fails to catch up with the sizzling speed of The Pittsburgh Kid. Conn via an 11-4-type decision, with Foreman taking a few early rounds, on account of Conn's tentativeness (ala vs. Louis in '41).
Slick defense vs. Electric offense --- Goodnight, Irene Promotions, in association with Tecate, presents a Welterweight Main Event: Wilfred "The Bible Of Boxing" Benitez vs. "Sugar" Shane Mosley, laid down for twelve rounds. Box!
