How hard is it to post draws, especially when you've said you will do it? I's already 10:30 pm, local time.

Agree completely. Seems AIBA never learns...

From cuban news agency:

Total of 554 boxers from 144 countries. Tomorrow fights the 51, 64 and 91 kg.

Some of the Cuban draw:

51: Yampier Hernandez - Alexandr Riscan (MDA)
54: Yankiel Leon (CUB) - Jin Yung Lee (KOR)
60: Idel Torriente (CUB) - Gani Zhailauov (KAZ)
64: Rosniel Iglesias - Brice Bassok (Burkina Faso)
69: Carlos Banteaux - Errol Spence (USA)
91: Osmay Acosta - Con Sheehan (IRL)
+91: Erislandy Savon - Andrew Jones (WAL)

The brackets are up on the AIBA website.

Home country hero Clemente Russo, 91kg, has a tough draw in spite of the new seeding system. His compatriot, Roberto Cammarelle, also has a tough draw. Cammarelle has USA's Mike Hunter for his first bout. Hunter is quick with very good skills and nice combinations. The winner of this bout will likely advance to the semi-finals before having another really tough bout.

Louie Byrd just lost to mexican Braulio Avila 14-12. Had expected much more from him...very poor footwork :( .
Fortunately the judges are scoring more frecuently than they have done the last year since the Olympics.

There seems to be lot of traffic on that site, or maybe my connection is not fast enough to get streaming. Could you please post all the results till now? Thanks.

AIBA is doing a great job by showing the bouts live on the internet. The one thing they need to change is using a bell for both rings. The boxers and referees have had problems. One ring should have a bell and the other a different sound that way the boxers and officials can differentiate the rings easier.

Frankie Gomez looked good in defeating the guy from Belarus 18-4. Frankie is going to have smooth sailing into the quarter-finals where he will probably meet Ignatiev.

Hunter lost to Cammarelle 8-1. The score should have been closer. He landed a couple of jabs in the first round that caused Cammarelle's nose to start bleeding, but Hunter didn't get any points for those blows. Granted I also saw a few punches from Cammarelle in the 2nd and 3rd rounds land that didn't give him any points. A 10-6 score would have been more palatable. I can imagine Hunter's frustration with hitting Cammarelle and seeing blood and then finding out that he didn't get any points in the 2nd round. Ditto for the 3rd round.

Savon looked good. I wonder what he weighs as he looks thin and looks like a 91kg boxer. My guess is that he weighs around 93-95kg.

Please remember that you are not seeing the same point of view as the 5 judges. :box:

Can't find any session results on the AIBA web site - can someone point me to them?

Savon is really a 91 kg boxer. He substituted for Robert Alfonso when Alfonso got KOéd by Cammarelle.

It looked Mike was doing what a lot of the US Olympians were doing and that is bend forward at the waist. They need to learn range better. It also looked Mike was coming in with the head a bit and then holding. When I watched it, the screen was jumpy and not a smooth running video until the last round. It looked Cammarelle was getting frustrated about the head and started putting some power behind his punches at the end.

Tuesday was a tough day for Team USA. Wednesday and Thursday will be better. Wednesday, USA should win at least 2 of 3 if not all 3 bouts. Thursday, they should win both bouts.

So my guess on his weight may be too high. So I take it Acosta beat Savon at 91kg.
