I never believed the 30,000 BS talk....knew it was absolute shite but the same idiots who jumped on Gatti's wife and calling her this and that are prob the same who believed some German Promotors half assed estimate on PPV figures.

100,000+ is a very good figure...thats at least 1.5 million and now Khan is a World Champion he could start aiming for 200,000-250,000 PPV mark

Also this idea of 6,000 attendence at M.E.N is Crap too....more like 8,000-10,000 and next time Khan fights at M.E.N which he probably will next fight, he'll get at least 12,000 to 15,000 and if you don't think so than your an idiot.

more than 30,000 were watching the feed i was. :D

if warren wants better figures then he better deliver the big names.

simple as really.

khan-kotelnik was never one to really set the pulses racing.

despite the fact it was a good match up.

ppv is for the big stars.

and that isn't kotelnik.

or junior witter.

And 8,000-10,000 bums on seats at the M.E.N.? you got to be joking. Atleast 65-75,000 ... come on fella get your figures correct

Surely it depends on who he is fighting? Barrera pretty much sold the venue out.

This thing with any given "attendence figures" for the MEN is that a lot of fans left before the main event, and a lot of people only arrived FOR the main event.

I was sat near a lot of Hall fans for the Hall fight, then suddenly a load of Gavin's fans arrived for his fight, and then when Khan's fight was on there were a lot of fans who clearly had only come to see him (the previous bunches having presumably gone off drinking.)

Probably something like 8000 fans were in the Men arena, just not all at the same time.

Nope not a big fan of Mr Warren, just using common sense and 100,000 sounds more realistic to me than 30,000

Just going by the 70,000 viewers on various streams that i watched there was obviously alot more interest in the Fight than people have stated elsewhere.

Also alot of his fans stayed away after the Briedis Prescott Fight thinking he was gonna get sparked again against Kotelnik so they would have watched the Fight at home on PPV instead.

I'm sure he'll get between 12,000-15,000 next Fight who ever he fights now that people know he's a World Champion especially if he fights at the M.E.N again due to that arena being between Cheetham Hill and Rusholme plus having Bolton 20 mins away on train from victoria station which is just next to the M.E.N

I'd like Khan to fight Juan Diaz/Paulie Maligianni Fight.

How do you know that? Not being nasty, I'm just wondering if you had a source, or if it's just basically a guess/speculation? What makes you think that more people buy the PPV than watch on a stream?

Being 20 minutes away from Bolton on train is no advantage if the fight is scheduled to finish after the last train leaves!

How many times does it need to be said ?
Boxingchat aka as Wazzaslovechild.com comes on here, slates everyone he believes to be an easy target but won't answer the question.
What were the official PPV buys ?
What was the official attendance at the MEN ?
Dont give me the crap about people only turning up for certain fights Whicker.
A ticket buy is a ticket buy.
I'm happy to include those who only turned up for 5 minutes.
So answer me this.
If everyome on here got it SO WRONG why hasn't BC taken a perfect oppertunity to put us all right ?
Confidentiality ? Yeah right.
What a perfect excuse to leave the figures as speculation.
For the avoidance of any doubt, like most boxing fans on here, I am happy to be proven wrong.
I'm sure Ant feels the same way.
So come on, Boxingchat, reveal all.

What I find amusing here is - if there is this confidentiality b*llocks then using that theory Mr W arren can tell us whatever number of buys he wants to save face can't he??

I will be honest here - I always thought it would eventually be more than 30,000 - but more than 100,000 nope dont think so!!

The show in my opinion was that sh*t it was the first PPV I havn't bought in recent memory when I ave had the opportunity to do so - even my Mrs couldn't believe I wasn't getting the show!!

my my Boxingchat's silence on this as the phrase goes is almost deafening!!!

As normal he comes on here either to insult people or to merely avoid what people are asking - what a complete and utter ****!!!

getting aside from this dispute for the moment. does anyone get the feeling that you're "supposed to" root for Khan, just because he's the chosen fighter?

after khan gets KO'd, he sullenly says "I'm gonna prove the doubters all wrong." it's as if no one should ever have doubted him in the first place, not even after he got KO'd in one by a guy who - as we found out - went nowhere. as if the doubters were villains who were bang out of order for doubting.

anyone feel that you're supposed to think he's sensational...just because he wins a workmanlike, sensible and quite skilled decision over a man he dismissed as "the worst world champion in boxing"? if he gets through a fight vs a good operator, without getting smashed up, it's like this is sensational in itself. when it just isn't.

credit to warren, he brought kotelnik over, at a time when GBP were making moves on kotelnik; credit to khan for boxing a clever fight and winning a world title early in his career...but the hyperbole is ridiculous. "amir khan has done it"- and...? and what? what extra? what about it was really sensational? what about it was truly inspired?

maybe this is why the live gate and the PPV #s were underwhelming. i think they need to convince ppl that he's doing a lot more than just avoiding the KO defeat. of course, he is doing more than that, but he could end up getting a reputation as a wlad k style of fighter. winning safely in an amateur style won't make you a superstar. andre ward take note as well.

khan is a deserved world champion, but he's not a superstar. i hope he can add various bits of sizzle to his style as he goes on. he showed signs of it hurting kotelnik to the body in the mid rounds. but he hit a lot of gloves when targeting the head. if you're slightly lacking something, an olympic medal helps cover the cracks doesn't it?

there not trying to say khan is amazing now they're saying in 3 years time he is going to be on another level to any current champions. I can believe it too he improves so massively between fights, he could loose the next 5 fights and i would still bet on him making a meaningful come back.

that's cool, 3 years. there is a gap and khan has titles - ama and pro - to help fill the gap. and he has the ahtletic talent to boot. but can that take him all the way to being a guy whose PPVs hit the million buys mark, and who has an assured place in the Hall of Fame.

however

khan vs morales - a fight for the ages

adam smith growling

the print media do their equivalent of an adam smith growl

dave clarke gives a tasty sneer into camera:

because khan did the job, boxed fairly safely, in amateur(ish) style

feels like since we've had some good Olympians, boxing has changed markedly. the stars are chosen before they turn pro - even though ama and pro are so different -, they are chosen to be PPV stars before they turn pro...this is going to be at the expense of potentially worthy, marketable fighters who are more suited to the pros. let's say another calzaghe comes along - will anyone notice him in the fever for PPV Olympians and slick oily Sky salesman posing as pundits?

agree mostly there mate

all i will say is, think from khan's view, think pragmatically, and how else is he supposed to fight, but 'amateurishly'??

if you had his chin, i ask you, how would you fight? ok so i am basically backing up my own ruddy reasoning here quote 'khan needs to learn to fight like Sven Ottke' as i have said for years.

seriously though please enlighten me, i agree the way he reacts to criticism seems sullen and churlish, but in his position, what would you do?

personally i think while maybe he will have to fight 'boring' fights, it can still translate into an excellent career; i would point to the career of Virgil Hill for example. IE Khan may well have to go for trying to make a large quantity of defences, instead of picking a few quality fights a la Froch (oh god, i just realised that gave you the opportunity for autobarn's trademarked Froch vs Calzaghe rant, aaaaarrrrgh please save me  )

*if* khan becomes a superstar it is likely to be more due to media profile than because he fights a succession of p4p top 10 dangerous punchers/ fighters like pacquiao has, IMO.

but i don't think we should resent him for that. he hasn't got Froch's chin or god help us Calzaghe's for that matter, so aggressive matchmaking with 50/50 fights against dangerous fighters will be limited. ok so then he will get 'over-sold' to the ignorant public, but surely we 'serious' fans can see behind that, and see what he really is:

super talent with massive fragility. on which basis i say again fighting in the style of or fighting the opposition of a 'superstar' to use your word, just isn't likely to happen. there I am the jaundiced hardnosed pragmatist well versed in boxing realpolitik, etc etc etc. it just seems in so much of the khan-doubt/hate, the hype is what annoys people, if they would just come out and say khan is good but vulnerable so we have to take that into account, then i don't think many of us would have a problem with him..?

know what i mean?

definitely know what you mean. it's just that ppl are responding as if khan is already a british sugar ray leonard - when he could end up more of a virgil hill (good example from you), whom the yank writers detested for his safety first style. because khan didn't get KO'd, because he didn't mess it up, because he didn't make bad mistakes...ppl seem to be rating him based on that, more than anything positive he did in there.

granted he's still very young. perhaps when he fights harder hitters, he'll be in a postion where he has to survive, and then rally, really hard. amid all the punches that hit gloves, i did see signs of variety: namely, the body shots, which hurt kotelnik.

i will contonue to watch khan on PPV. i would rather buy PPV now & again than have the atrocious SS package. but i just don't get excited about khan. even the new and improved khan. i can appreciate what he is as a potential commodity in boxing. but the prospect of his fights don't raise my pulse.

boxing has to innovate. thankfully there is stuff like the Super 6 tournament happening. if that works out well, hopefully new and exciting strategies will develop to provide competitive and exicitng boxing, in which the viewer doesn't really know who will win; and can expect eventful fights. next to Super 6, these "Fight Skool" PPVs look like a sad joke.

This was never a PPV fight and Warren & co. should have known that. Khan isn't a PPV fighter right now. The general public don't really like him that much (rightly or wrongly) and he doesn't have the lustre of his Olympic performance to boost his profile anymore because peoples' memories are too short.

Glad to see you back on the thread, Ant.
Boxingchat can put an immediate end to the debate by formally announcing the attendance and PPV buys.
I'm hearing the same rumours Ant - and that the "confidentiality" line is a smokescreen.
I am more than happy to be shot down if the figures are wrong.
In a peculiar way I hope the rumours are false.
However - silence says it all on this occasion.
