What a bunch of tits some of you are. No wonder why there aren't to many pro fighters on this forum. We get one of the England's most decorated amateurs ever who looks like he is going to do big things as a pro and people decide to trash him? I didn't know responding negatively to an obvious troll who is subtly talking s hit about your trainer was such an unreasonable thing to do.

Whilst everyone seems to have lost the plot slightly on this thread and whilst I believe Farnell was a very exciting fighter that gave his all and now seems to be capable of achieving things as a trainer that he never could as a fighter, lets not get all rose tinted specs when looking back on the WBU days.

It made great domestic fighters (brave and exciting as they were) more money because it conned people into believing what they were watching was world class. Not the fighters fault of course, but meaningless world titles have damaged our sport.

Also best of luck to Gavin whilst he is on here, looks a great little fighter, the type that we don't have come around too often in this country.

See Frankie. A bit of decorum and you come across as a nice lad. All I ask is that you don't come on here with that kind of vehemence in your posts. You will find if you're replies are of the ilk as above then that will create a few good fans. Just ask Jamie Moore.

I will let what you said slide. And I hope you do become a world champion.

And Farnell was one of my best British fighters ever. He did a plumbers course with my dad I believe (Jimmy Richards ring a bell?), and I have followed him since then. So it's unfair for anyone to critise him. And I hear he's a top lad as well.

to sum things up

-the WBU are out. (why would olympians who fight on PPV undercards need a minor fringe belt anyway?)

-frankie gavin's not a bad lad really and will do well, was just sticking up for his trainer, and we certainly want boxers of frankie's calibre on these parts.

-arnie made some good money, had some good fights and a fan base that a certain ricky hatton benefited from a great deal...there is obviously a distinction between farnell and say gary lockett, who got what he wanted financially, but left boxing with few fans and few memorable nights.

my fave WBU champ - shea neary. what great fights he had. would he have ever fought scheepers and micky ward if that belt wasn't on the line? great stuff.

one point - the warren vibe now seems to be that the likes of hatton, calzaghe, macca, were keen to milk things, to have the mismatches, to call themselves Champ when they weren't really. it's like these guys, and a few others, are to blame for some of the fringe title mess that happened, for many of the poor fights. now that hatton and calzaghe are long gone from "sports network", it's ok to stick a target on their heads, to heap criticism on them (when we made such criticisms, we got blasted by warren's representitive, tellingly). i think it begs the question, did certain fighters get greedy/cynical, and take advantage of opportunities given by frank? or are the promoter's fingerprints all over those fights? by all indications, this new generation of warren fighters will be more ambitious than the last lot. different times, different fighters, different attitude - hopefully.

Frankie I loved following Farnell's career and I'm enjoying watching your progress too. I just hate minor titles like the WBU because to me it's a joke. Getting involved in this thread over the weekend has made me look back at Farnell's career - it was always non-stop action and excitement. He gave it 100% and did himself proud. I loved watching his fights and this is how I remember him - not as a world champion, but as a fantastic blood and guts performer who was about as exciting as they come. Nobody could doubt his bravery or commitment, and I hope he is a success as a trainer.

Frankie Gavin is surely far too talented to head down the WBU title route. Its a bit like being out with a drunken mate who's got the beer goggles on; he's eyeing up this really ugly bird, and you're telling him "don't do it mate, she's not worth it, you'll regret it in the morning" but he's so drunk he thinks she's Megan Fox.

Frankie you are too good for the WBU title, don't do it !!

WBC title = Megan Fox
IBF title = Cheryl Cole
WBA title = Kym Marsh
WBO title = Jordan
WBU title = Kerry Katona
WBF title = Nora Batty

Crusader - I am going to pick up on your points!!!

First of all if someone comes on here - regardless of whether they are connected to the sport or not they have to be prepared to accept what goes on in forum life - just because we get people from boxing coming on here does not mean people cannot disagree with them or have a good ruck if they feel they are correct on a matter - too often people within the sport come on these forums and there are quite a few frightened to answer back - b*llocks is what I say - if I believe I am right on a point I am going to argue till the cows come home on my points.

Secondly - you mention there are not too many pro fighters on this forum - I can categorically refute that claim - there are many personalities from boxing that come onto the forum - Promotional Team Staff, Managers, trainers, boxers, Press and TV people - one hell of a lot of them at the very least read this place - many people at shows have mentioned to me and had a giggle about either what I have wrote or others - that includes promoters!!! - boxrec has an excellent reputation of allowing a debate to flow to a point then it either gets closed or the offending posts removed.

Thirdly - I completely agree with those who state Frankie Gavin at worst has bit back - in my opinion rightly so - he is being loyal to his trainer and wont have a bad word said about him - I will stress again I think he was right to do so and I will repeat I honestly believe Gavin and Saunders will go places - how far thats up to them!!!

I do have another point to add here - Arnie knows what these forums are like - I remember in britboxing days him and Wayne Alexander had some right rucks with a couple of us stirring the pot here and there - Team Farnell are a good bunch - nope a top bunch - I remember incurring the wrath of them prior to the In Jin Chi v Michael Brodie 1st fight - Arnie was completely correct in his points but he also shook my hand and we have been pals ever since - so trust me he wont lose any sleep with what is stated on here.

I hope Frankie Gavin frequents this place a lot more often as long as he accepts the rough with the smooth - perhaps when he wins his first title he can pay for some plastic surgery for his not so good looking trainer!! :TU:

If they were treated exactly like everyone else is on these forums that would be fine. However Frankie made one little post directed at a troll who was looking to stir up trouble and all of a sudden he had a bunch of other people jumping on him and saying stuff like "thats why I never liked Frankie Gavin" "Regular" users make comments much more derogatory than that all the time, but they do not have a gang of people teaming up on them with personal attacks and complaints that they "were out of line" . If some other user had posted that comment it would have simply be ignored. What exactly did Frankie do that was out of line anyways? The thread starter is a well known trouble maker who was bashing his trainer and Frankie naturally got a little defensive about it. How many of us would react differently if we were in the same situation?

If Frankie is to be treated like any other member of this forum, than he should be allowed to post in the same manner as any member would, he shouldn't have to be a role model or set an example like I have seen some people suggest.

I'm not aware of all the professional boxers who browse these forums, but I know for sure not many actually take the time to post here. I think that when a highly decorated fighter like Frankie Gavin gives us the time of day and actually answers the questions we have that they deserve a little respect. David Telesco, a former world ranked contender who fought Roy Jones used to post here and he was disrespected and bashed in the similar fashion, and he stopped posting because he didn't want to put up with this bs. Why on earth would anyone want to drive away such a high profile boxer? I don't see how that is positive in any sense. The forum can only flourish with the best in our sport posting here.

Crusader!!

I think you are missing the point mate!!

Firstly I am actually sticking up for both Frankie and Arnie!!

However Arnie especially knows its the rough with the smooth on here and you will always get people disagreeing with you and you will always get people stirring on here - I have to admit I love stirring the pot sometimes it makes the place more interesting and then you can sit back and have a giggle - then there is the other side of the coin and I know because I have taken more sh*t on here than bloody anybody - its tough sh*t - if people want to have a pop then let them have a go.

The times I object is when my family are faced with direct threats and if people go over than "thin line" of decency which "the troll" did on both occasions.

If Frankie comes onto boxrec he will always get the "haters" on here probing to get a reaction - its the way he reacts which counts.

These forums are notorious for rumours and counter rumours and then supporters from promotional company or fighter stirring up the sh*t - I must have got it all wrong because I thought that was what forum life was all about!!!

Ok Spud, I can see your points. I just think that when a professional fighter takes the time to post here that they deserve alot of respect and "constructive criticism", because directly making certain negative comments or statements to them (ie. thats why I never liked Frankie Gavin) usually tends to stop them from posting, at least in my experience on this and other forums, and I don't want that. It's like if I were to come on here and get attacked every time I made a post, I probably wouldn't return very often.

Don't go in for the hype, though.

Frankie Gavin isn't an Olympian, having never boxed in the Olympics. He IS an amateur World Champion, which is just as good, of course (if not better.) Saunders went to the Olympics, but (and I'm just being objective here) was the least successful of all the current professionals in the British Isles who took part in the Olympics.

DeGale is an Olympian, just as Harrison was an Olympian. Hardly a guarantee of superstardom in itself.

As for fighting on the undercard of PPV, that was widely (and rightly) criticised, especially as it was at the expense of other fights.

I think we should focus on the boxers by ability, and not read too much into this "three olympians" marketing.

yes, i was one of the ones who criticsed the 3 ama stars being on the PPV. what i'm getting at is, warren has some guys who world class amateurs, so they are going to get the push in favour of anyone else, they are the big investment so even if they get KO'd in one round, they will be back will the big opportunities. i'm not saying it is going to work - there are no guarantees with the gulf between ama and pro. i'm just saying a WBU strap is a bit lowly, even in the WBU heyday where everyone's happy raking it in, being "champion" and drawing a decent crowd. we've seen what warren's done with khan - WBA champ already, even after a few hiccups.

to be honest, i don't even watch the gavin, degale, saunders fights. i took my dog for a walk when those fights were on and got back for the main fights. i can watch sutherland, as he has that pro look already.

Well, don't forget that both Hatton and Maccarinelli held the WBU strap!

Khan, to be fair, has generally "walked the walk" well- but yeah, I do know what you mean- it is possible that the "Olympians" could be guided along a Khan style route. Still early days, of coure.

What I would like to see is a challenge for the British title first (if the fighters are at that level)... it might happen.

it depends how they develop.if they start looking dodgy against fringe british fighters(like khan),then yes,we are in for a load of bs.if they look the business(like hamed)fwank will bring them on properly.its called confidence in your own boxers ability

I can understand why Frankie responded the way he did. And let's face it, his description of 'Mortimer Adler' was pretty accurate from the shi1te I've read of his on here. I also think it's good to have Frankie Gavin posting on here - it certainly adds something extra to the forum to have people such as him here who are in the thick of it, so to speak.

Good luck Frankie :box:

the irony is that crusader and big mark are both worried about scaring away boxers from this forum because of the banter between posters in response to FG's juvenile offering.
