The problem with ticket sales is not only the time but the fact it isn't along with AA v JT, I would love to go to the live fight but why do that and possibly miss the other one. TV is the way forward for this night of action!
If Hennesey doesn't find a way to show the AA v Taylor fight to those of us who have shelled out for tickets then they will lose my respect big time and put me off returning

yeah the screen stayed mainly unused last time, just used it to put the records of each fighter and also to show a little video of froch so i hope they show the taylor fight.
Does anyone know if they will show any other boxing on primetime or is it just for the super 6?

Fair enough Ant, you must know how the sales are going but I often wonder if you might want to try to accentuate the positive in regards to boxing. Slow tickets sales are bad. You've also expressed the feeling that this tournie will fall apart and turn out to be a dud but it is throwing up some good fights.

Froch-Dirrell is a decent contest, Dirrell is known and respected by fans, both men are undefeated, both talk a good fight and Froch has had two amazing fights in the past year. So the ones who are attending/watching (if something gets sorted) are in for a good night.

I skim a lot of posts so apologise if I'm wrong but didn't you often complain about Calzaghe's title defences? Claiming that there was too much filler? Froch is doing the opposite and you still seem a little miffed, albeit over the tickets/TV. At least Froch is doing what Joe didn't do, at the least he also has Kessler lined up next.

Put aside politics and intrigue for a moment and the in-ring prospect of Froch-Dirrell is worth getting excited about and it is a welcome change from the past. On the same night we've got the Taylor contest, another good one, so the tournament has already thrown up two solid bouts.

There is a little bit of utopian thinking in this idea but why not take a "glass half full" view of it, rather than seeing it as another boot going into the rib of boxing? October is a stonking month, that could also have contributed to the sale situation, a lot of guys are fighting and fans may have decided to go for Brit-Brit showdowns.
Tickets aren't selling for this, and that would be the case if I had written that on BoxRec or not. It is my view that the prices are too high for what it is, and it is also my view isn't fair British fans are expected to stay up later than Patrick Moore to see what is a routine fight for Froch. I am merely expressing those views by way of possible explaination for poor ticket sales. This may not be a matter of interest to you, and maybe to no-one else, and I guess I am sorry for wasting the 12 seconds of your life it took to read that.

The Super-Six is a good idea which has been executed very badly. Why aren't all six guys fighting on one card, then again in March, and then again in the finale in June? That's how it should have been done.

Froch has fought good opponents pretty much since 2004. His fights are almost always entertaining, if not exciting. This next fight isn't on the level of his previous two; even though I think he may lose as I am hearing he's not really training hard for it. Clearly Carl has the same view of Dirrell as I.

I enjoy Froch fights, and I get a kick out of his walking PR disaster attitude. But he's not the star he thinks he is. He's not even the most famous fighter from Nottingham, not with Dan Hardy and Paul Daley around despite what Froch goes out of his way to say.

I do think there was a lot of filler with Calzaghe's 12stone run, and wrote that when I was a boxing reporter often. I don't think that can be debated, really.

You are spot on, October is a great month for UK boxing. I will be at Khan's next fight, and will be going to see Moorsey's fight with Rhodes and will also be at Hatton's show day before UFC in Manchester. I am looking forward very much to Cotto v Pac-Man, although I've got out on a limb with Cotto KOing him in 9 and little nervous when I think of that now. Plus, hopefully I can figure out how to get to Prizefighter this weekend. WAR DANNY!
Why aren't they all on the same bill?

Well, I think a sensible person would probably suspect that the answer to that lies in the cost of paying six marquee name boxers on a single bill, with just a single arena in which to sell tickets -- which, rather than being in the boxers' natural markets will inevitably be in a city which doesn't really know the majority of the boxers -- and only having one TV program on which to sell adverts and sponsorship.

Probably that, would be my guess.

Cheers again Law. Do you know if it's going to be a subscription channel like Setanta was or is it just going to show one-off shows like Sky BO.

Either way I'm just happy it's being aired LIVE over here :OhYes: :OhYes:

This just sounds like a ppv basis. Surely if your going to do box office sky is the best bet! I can't see this doing great ppv numbers!

I've just had a chat with one of the guys representing Primetime and they are also hoping to sell a good quality online stream for people who do not have access to the sky platform, this has not been confirmed yet though. It's good news in my opinion.

Very strange that something involving Queensbury media is getting the rights to a Hennessy show.

exactly, and you can't just chuck it all onto one card, not when the fights are so good and main event worthy, and when the fighters are a "name" only to speciifc markets (i.e. froch in notts, abraham in germany, etc)

Did it suggest how long the coverage would be, Law. Would it show undercard fights from the bills? or just the Super Middleweight contests.

They didn't go into detail about the undercard coverage. I'm sure HS Press will keep us updated soon.

The market has spoken: people won't pay for one good fight and a shite undercard. They WILL pay for a full night of entertainment.
I would disagree, DLH vs Pacquiao and DLH vs Mayweather had terrible undercards - did well at the PPV. I think there was ALOT of intrigue about how Mayweather would perform, absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that. Alot of people wanted to see would Mayweather be "back".

Shane Mosley vs Fernando Vargas 1 did surprisingly well at the box office, despite a poor undercard - again it was the intrigue factor. Both had impressed in low key fights since bad defeats - so it was the intrigue factor.

the UFC can afford to do that becuase they underpay their stars.boxers demand a fair share of the income generated...

how many of the 1m buyers of the PPV actually knew whom chris john and michael katsidis were? did HBO make clear that the fans would be getting 2 good "meat and potatoes" fights before the main event?

mayweather has been a pretty good PPV draw since the gatti fight. obviously in this recession they want mayweather only with meat and potatoes.

i like the idea that you put on a solid card and it's good for boxing. but at least super 6 is getting the best at a particular weight in vs each other - another thing we need to see more of. for instance - and forget the PPV #s a minute - wouldn't it have been better to see mayweather in a genuine test, vs someone his own size? super 6 might be making some mistakes selling the fights, with perhaps a lack of coordination between Showtime and all the different promoters, but at least the fights are happening. and if froch comes through it as #1, then at least he'll be in position to make money on american TV, and will have faced the best of his weight. (even if he'll probably go back to sulking on that ann robinson program to bolster his profile over here.)
