the reason for my total and utter surprise is that Poxon was at the very forefront of what went on with Fight Academy - with that responsibility you take the plaudits when things go right but you also take your fair share of the blame when things go wrong.

so what went on? Come on you hjave to admit you love throwing the fishing lines out there buddy.

J,
It is well documented as many will tell you on here - Fight Academy did not capitilise on the FACT they had one of the world's most popular fighters signed to the promotional firm.
With regards to the "nitty gritty" details - I am stupid - not that stupid!!!
I think Poxon or lets go for another wild guess - Adam Booth could train Hatton - problem is with Booth he might ask for a little too much money unless there is a partnership with David Haye going on - Haye is going to fight in the UK - will it be on a Hatton/Golden Boy show?

Bomber - Lirva is Nathan Cleverley and he has just called you average!!
Disclaimer: Joke!!!
On the Hatton thing I am in the camp that wants to see Ricky one more time, I really dont think he can be classed as 'finished' after being beaten by 2 of the best fighters of the last 20 years when in the previous fight he was excellent against Malignaggi (who has had 2 good wins (1 real, 1 he should have got since).
I say put Hatton in with someone like Urango, if thats goes well JMM and the finale against Khan all being well.
If the 1st fight goes tits up Hatton can walk away with his head held high. Done more for the sport than any other UK in the last 10 years.

Hatton has a son to look after - that should be more than enbough reason fr him to call it a day - he is already damaged goods and more fights won't make his post career any better.
It will be smaller older opponents UNTIL he can get to the real tough fights.
I am 100% sure this will not have a happy ending.

Ricky and Billy are not on good terms and I didn't like how Ricky never publically told Floyd Snr to pack it in (hated that infact) - however, Ricky never publically was critical of Billy's abilities.... well his "team" were publically criticical if he could STILL do it - but nobody said he couldn't train in his pomp.
Although I quoted your post, it was more a response to Jane's earlier "ask Clinton" post about Richard. Jane's post wasn't about Poxon's personality, Poxon's loyality (or lack of to fight academy) or any other conflict of interest he had - it was about his ability as a trainer (Poxon couldn't train a dog). Maybe Clinton doesn't say negative things about Poxon's ability, but the it certainly implies that it does.
If this is not the case, and its just a bit of a "wind up" by Jane then I applogise to Clinton.
I only hope when more "settled" in retirement (time's a great healer, its still fresh) Richard and Clinton (and Dennis) can share a few beers over the great ride they had.... same applies for Ricky, Matthew, Kerry, Billy, Ray and the rest of the old "team Hatton".

He must clearly feel he wants to achieve more, and I tend to see the point here.
Going off his reputation pre-Mayweather fight, then he must be looking to end his career with at least one notable World-Level win.

Personally, I don't think Hatton will employ Poxon as his full time coach. I think he will want him to focus on his match making - which is a new venture for him, for a new promotional company (and what a fine job he is doing so far). I could see him working alongside another coach - alot will depend on where the fight/s will take place.

As for being a good matchmaker Dont make me laugh I,ll could match any show in the world just phone Phillip Fondu He will do all the work match the fighters and gives you a cut for getting him the work laugh Phillip is one of the best out there
He has helped me out a few times
Look at the Hatton shows and count how many of Phillips imports have been used since Poxon Got the job. When there of plenty of UK boxers that would have taken the job CHEAPER But 3 imports per show wonder what the Commission is on that LOL

Well, I will politely agree to disagree. Not disputing what your saying Jane. Perhaps Richard's job is simple, perhaps he is not providing enough opportunity for British fighters - perhaps he is just using Fondu.
I am not going to argue or dispute that, I cannot. All I can talk about is as a "fan" of the sport, no hidden agenda, no bias what so ever. I aint going to judge who right or wrong, who did the dirty on who..... not my interest. I like the stuff that goes on between the ropes..... and I will say I like so far the televised Hatton promotions bills.
How many of these have had Richard's involvement I don't know - but all of them have had at least one fight that delievered. Sometimes the main event has fallen flat, but the undercard makes up for it.

Sorry Jane, didn't realise that you posted it before my last reply.
I'm not disputing your track record, inside knowledge and ability as a boxer and promoter. I don't know why you think I have. You've inspired alot of people, including my cousin who was one of the first patch of females who got a Welsh vest.... admittedly not a massive achievement given the amount of Welsh female amatuer boxers at the time, but it was still after watching you and Christy Martin in action (seperately off course).
Yep, you get shit trainers, shit promoters, matchmakers etc and I'm quite prepared to call a spade a spade if there is something I aint happy with.
I appologise to you for not remembering that edition of boxing news. I aint saying what you said is false. All I can remember is Clinton praising Poxon during his IBF title run and hailing himself as a new, better fighter - then it went sour.
Just things don't add up for my reckoning - you don't win and defend, against decent opposition, a world title with a bad coach if your not the most naturally gifted fighter (something Clinton often admitted to). Something must have "clicked" between them even if it was for a short time.
Clinton held that title with great dignity, and from the viewing public (I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him) was a gentleman and role model to lots. He held himself so well when the BBC tried to steal his moment by getting Calzaghe in on the action. However, what I remember was the "team" that Fight Academy had - Poxon, Woods and Hobson seemed to be 3 peas in a pod - each saying they wouldn't be in their position without each other.
Now, I will re-iterate I don't know any of the ins and out...... but personally I think the "ins and out" are not relevant. You don't become a bad trainer over night unless your in bad health or getting on in years. Maybe what happend prior to the Tarver fight was all down to him etc, but I only hope Clinton can remember (in years to come) the good times and the praise he did have for him. Having said this, I don't think he is the man to take control of Hatton.
I aint seen Poxon's in the gym, so I cannot judge him. However, my views on his corner work is somewhat mixed. Maybe he is an "on top trainer" - great when things are going well.... cause some of his comments in the corner were great for the successes.... for the Tarver camp the whole atmosphere and body language - of both Poxon and Woods - was that of defeat. All I was saying was he didn't do badly for Woods for the most part of their relationship - and I hope Clinton doesn't forget this.

There are really only two opponents I want to see Hatton in with, Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan, and I think Hatton losses both of those. A bloated JMM doesn't interest me and in my personal opinion I want him to stay retired if he isn't going to fight with one of those two, or the likes of Maidana or Alexander.
I thought he would return against the likes of Ndou, they could bill it as brothers revenge and Ndou would be far less dangerous than Marquez, or the fighters I've mentioned above.

Stu - thanks for the response pal!!! - long may our discussions continue - I like it sometimes when we disagree on issues and argue/debate our points out - that is the whole point of the forum - I am certainly in no way upset or angered by your posts - I simply love debating boxing and believe people should be forceful with their opinions if it is what they believe in.
I have quoted your line above - whilst I stated in a post in this thread "never say never" - I would be stunned if things turn out amicably - they state time is a healer - lets see what happens.

Smigga,
Not surprised by your response at all - rather than concentrate on my "laundrette" gossip - why not concentrate seeing if you really are any better than a domestic class boxer who seems to be spouting just as much sh*t as me through your fans. Why dont you and your fans show Tony Dodson some respect - and for the record I think you win that fight but will laugh my b*llocks off if you come off the rails so early after your fans claims of being a "so called" world class boxer!!!
I find the laundrette comment particularly funny - you and certain other boxing personalities would love to come on here and have things your own way with people sucking up to you - when they dont you come out with your comments like the ones in your interview with Terry Dooley - another "laundrette" FACT for you - its personalities like yourself who are only appearing to be nice if things go your way - the moment people disagree you come out with your own subtle digs - when you are next in the laundrette trying to find out what sh*t gossip I am spouting - have a look for your teddy you threw into the corner and maybe you can find your dummy too!!!
