i scored it without the sound on, so i did not listen to biased comments, and i had napa by 3 rounds, had napa 5 up going into the last 2, but ian slipped 2 rounds there.
i think i would call that fight a robbery, it was not too close..

I don't know why Napa keeps getting ripped off. Tonight was a joke imo it leaves a bad taste for me.

As much as I am dissapointed with this decision, what pissed me off worst is actually the two main events in FNF in 2010 have been wrong. Napa won this, and Dolan won last week.
This is becoming the norm..... if anyone won this fight by 5 rounds it was Napa. I didn't mind Piper's card and it wasn't that much different to Spencer's.... Spencer not really declaring were he gave the "sparring" session early rounds - Piper giving them to McDonnell - (they were close) - but I think the worst scenerio I could see for Napa was a 7-5 to the Dappa man (which I think is what Nicky was saying).
However, you could easily have given those early rounds to Napa also - giving him a much wider margin of victory.
The sad thing is - when I heard 117-112 - I knew McDonnell was getting it!!!
Thats a BIG reason why people are switching off from the sport - the mutliple titles isn't helping, but the stinking decisions are worst.

From my point of view i had it a draw, I had it 3-3 at half way then gave the next 3 to Napa, then the last 3 to McDonnell.
I felt the commentary from Sky was VERY biased towards Napa, which might have affected a lot of people's judgements maybe? They were going on about Napa being great in at least a couple of rounds where he did very little except pot shot, where McDonnell clearly outworked him and landed more decent shots (imho of course).
For me Napa sometimes turns up to fights and expects to be given the benefit of the doubt by all judges for his style, he gets lazy and expects he can coast to victory by pot shotting in little flurries.
I'm sorry but, although he did land some quality shots throughout, I didnt see a clear win either way so I don't think he was robbed, I think DPs scorecard was harsh though, but I had it either a draw or a close win to either fighter whereas Napa was in massive state of shock as if he felt he had it comfortably in the bag, I didnt see it that way.
I can see why judges might be swayed by McDonnell's workrate and the fact not only did he work, he found Napa's chin on many occasions for a guy who is supposedly so hard to hit.

well i didnt hear the sky since i was there and all i could hear were the mcdonnel fans going 'hooray' every time Napa deflected a shot off his gloves.... heres a tip: dont arrive only for the main, then you wont have to sit in the back of the back and not get to actually see the fight
Napa by 3 for me, which makes the wide scorecard fcuking ludicrous. Mcdonnel by 5? fcuking joke.

The fight was gripping to watch. The scorecard of Dave Parris at the end did spoil it in a very big way though. To have it that far for McDonnell was shocking, maybe if he had it by 1 point as the other scorecard did would have been easier to accept but the scorecard he did hand over was shocking and totally spoiled the validity of the decision.
Saying that I'd love to see them do it again though as they fight had me gripped from beginning to end with Napas style and McDonnells stamina coming tback in the last couple of rounds. A very enjoyable Friday Fight Night, heres hoping for more of the same in the near future.
And hopefully Napa v McDonnell sometime later in the year!

Yep - which makes me think something needs to be done. IMO its a big an influence as anything. For me, this is the single reason why the trend of Brits losing abroad is no longer as much as it used to be (that aint a bad thing). Calzaghe, Hatton and Haye have all been involved in razor tight fights abroad- all got the benefit, I think the fact that it is so much easier to get abroad these days and British fans go in their thousands and make more noise has an big influence. Not saying thats a bad thing, but we need impartiality and I don't think it can happen with the noise levels. Similarly I don't doubt for one minute the Froch fans cheering misses had some influence on the judges on the Dirrell fight.
I don't know what the answer could be - sound proof muffs with monitors??? but it needs to be looked into.

Napa won the fight he landed the better puches was outboxing Mcdonnell. Who did well to win last two. Dave Paris and Terry O connor should be sacked they are not upto it imo.

Think he is too good for his own good. Similar to latter day James Toney. Toney out-boxed Peter in their first fight and was overlooked. I think some judges are not doing their job properly and are forgetting to score the fight and are instead just totting up rounds for the fighter who is throwing the most leather -- especially in close rounds.
Napa made the guy miss more shots, countered, landed the more telling blows and used the other guy's physical stature to his own advantage. Sure, he gave away a few, as toney used to, but he was in control for large periods.
Really think his work is so subtle that he penalises himself, maybe he should slap the pish out of the opponent's gloves and lower his own accuracy, the judges may score, sorry count, those shots.
Not a pop at the judges on the night or McDonnell, who did great after looking shaky when he was cut, just my opinion. Second fight in a row that Napa has had puzzling scores against him.
Well put and the comparison to Toney is spot on. Blocking shots with your gloves and elbows doesn't seem to get the credit it deserves. Its almost as if the judges count them as scoring shots anyway.

Sky TV were as bad as Dave Parris. Adam Smith and Jim Watt were telling viewers how fantastic Napa was all fight, then suddenly went all gooey over McDonnell in the last couple of rounds. Did they know something? They certainly did before the scoring when Smith mentioned a lot of people having it very close.
It was a close fight, but Napa looked a round or two up, so a split decision for Jamie with all three judges 115-114 would be acceptable, but the final scorecard was shocking.

Sky TV are often like that. They tend to "pick" a fighter, and focus on how he is easily winning the fight and how he is the all round "better man."
In this instance, however, their comments were backed up somewhat by the odds offered "betting in running" , which did tend to suggest that whoever was offering odds was seeing the fight as they were (although, indeed- perhaps influenced by the commentators.)

The last FFN of 2009 was Adamu-Dilks!
I actually thought Napa won last night but the commentators ignored the majority of McDonnell's work, prefering to talk about Napa's skill whenever Jamie landed.I noticed this very early on and wasnt too suprised with the verdict

i was going to say Terry, this all sounds ominously similar to the Davies fight where what was IMO ineffective pressure by Davies was being scored by the judges and Napa's work overlooked.

Guys,
Whilst I am completely delighted Jamie won because he is a Fight Academy fighter - I do not think the fight was such a MASSIVE controversy as some are making out - if you pressed me to say how I think it went - I had the fight edging towards Napa solely because he was the "home" fighter - in addition - I think the crucial area of the fight was the interpretation of how those middle rounds went.
Did I think Napa edged - yes - but I had the scores very close indeed - but I will repeat I am delighted the Fight Academy fighter got the decision - maybe the proper thing in all of this is a REMATCH - or I suppose another option for Jamie is a fight against someone like Martin Power or someone similar. Jamie I believe will fight on Maloney shows for a while now as "Little" Frank has options on Jamie and I am sure Jamie will get some decent pay days.
I believe some are correctly focussing on the actual judges scoring rather than the result - the fight was very close - but some of the scorecards did not make sense in my view and I will also agree the commentators got it wrong.
