Warren & Joe both grew fat from boxing fans money.

If you ask me the court should have awarded that money back to the fans they conned into attending their 'shows'.

are you serious? or do you not know how the game works?

i will do you a big favour and point out... the following

a manager/promoter typically takes a 10-15% cut of the fighters purse.

so... in basic maths for you my friend... if calzaghe made 20M over his career, warren made 2-3M out of him.

hope this clears matters up, PM me for more boxing basics if you need em. 8)
That's not quite correct actually. As a manager, there is a set cut of the fighters purse. As a promoter however, the fighter negotiates the purse with their promoter. Warren doesn't always take his managers cut, as a promoter, he doesn't need to.

khan't see it mate.

GBP/and the poision dwarf will see to that... they protect fighters more than any other outfit.

Madiaina will get nowhere near khan't for at least 2 years.

Bastituita and Ortiz..NOT PROTECTED..

GBP do the opposite!

I wonder if Warren will learn from this and instead of 'star building' decides to put his fighters in lots of 50-50 fights. We'll watch Warren shows, not for the stars, but the fights, reminicent of the 50s where everyone fought everyone. Yes I'm dreaming

PS Khan owes Warren nothing, they had a business relationship, which Warren nicely profited from

the case notes from the high court make it very clear how much calzaghe made, and how much warren made out of the 10 yr relationship.
Thats as maybe, but your assertion about the split that a promoter takes from the fighter is not correct. Promoters are the ones who make the big money from the sport, they pay the fighter what they think he is worth, and the fighter goes elsewhere if he feels he isn't getting enough. The managers cut is stipulated by the sports governing body as I recall. Contracts are ratified by the board.

However, as the promoter is the one putting the show together and taking the risk of losing money also, they define the purse. The purse is paid out of the total pot of money.

I'm sure Warren made plenty out of his relationship with Calzaghe, but for many years, Joe wasn't exactly a massive ticket seller. It really wasn't until he beat Lacy that he became a big star in his home country. Prior to that, people hadn't really warmed to him.

I hope he does learn, good domestic fights mean a lot more to the fans than a 'star' against some obscure overseas 'National Champ'.

warren says he is 'offended that they think GBP can further Khan's career better' etc, but he doesn't seem to realise why this is. Sometimes I think he lives in a parallel boxing universe where he can't quite comprehend the prospect of fighters wanting to fight the best. He knows 'the best' are out there somewhere, and he knows he can occasionally refer to them in his column with a sort of detached wonderment, but ultimately they are no concern of his.

GBP can obviously delivier big fights, but will they deliver the bigger paydays than Warren could?
There's alot of people with their fingers in the pie at GBP, and they all want paying.

Good luck to Khan for taking the plunge, but he isn't going to be headlining straight away, and may come unstuck before hitting the jackpot.

Khan is now rubbing shoulders with Pac, Roach and co....it can only do him good.

mate, khan't and co need to fight Maidana as he is the mandatory... but as roach has said... he reckons khan khan't beat him...warren had to set that fight up... the argies are on records as are the WBA in saying it was more or less agreed... soon as roach found out... on the blower to schaefer/oscar and co.... khan off...khan now certainly khan't fight the best

he will fight 2 or 3 more bums under GBP before a proper ruck.
It's funny you say that, because Khan is probably going to fight Maidana next. I think the deal is pretty much done.
