At the end of the day if a promoter who has a World Champion with an exciting style like Froch cannot get that fighter on TV apart from a 2 bit channel then he is not doing his job properly.

Could I do a better job?? Of course not, that does not mean that I and other fans or 'keyboard warriors' as Spuddio so elequently puts don't know what we are talking about.

MH has a good stable of fighters, agreed, and he puts on some good matches, agreed.

However this TV thing with Froch and the John Murray and Darren Barker situations suggest to me that he is not doing a great job at the moment.

My personal opinion concerning "Meaty Mick" Hennessy is a very good promoter indeed - whilst I take on board yours and other peoples comments that it comes down to him to entice the TV contracts - I firmly believe the murky, back stabbing world of boxing and its poltics has been highlighted in its most horrible form in relation to Hennessy and getting hold of TV - just because there are some people who do not like Hennessy and his straight talking ways should not mean the door is shut on him and his quality stable of boxers.

In my view for Britain to have a major world champion of a reputable world title belt and for his fight not to be shown on mainstream tv whether that be terrestrial or Sky is truly barking mad.

Call me an internet warrior if you want but I've been to lots of Froch fights including Taylor and plenty of other Hennesey bills. I've rescheduled for the Kessler fight despite the change of date being a complete farce. I'm entitled to an opinion on the guys promotional ability and IMO it is downright awful.

No communication with fans at all. If it wasn't for Gomez we wouldn't have a clue what was going on. HS Press posts press releases when it suits them but when have they ever replied to a question, even on their own threads? Not like Maloney, a proper promoter. He clearly holds no sway with the TV networks. Like it or not that is a big part of modern promoting.

Mick Hennesey. Good bloke. Decent manager. Awful promoter.

Witter again had to wait ages for his shot and when he won a title fought for chump change without tv. Never got any big money fights

Froch again has long periods of inactivity, has to fight the best to get work and it don't get tv, hopefully he won't be like Witter and Eastman who need day jobs after they finish

Barker again, lomg periods of inactivity, moving him forward is a slow process, not getting any big fights

Meager was used as cannon fodder for other members of the stable

Daws has had to fight on other promoters shows for work

Murray/ long periods on inactivity again, on the verge of leaving, has never earned the decent money

To me that shows he is a good manager. Most of us agree if he wasn't with Hennessy he wouldn't be in the super six.

But he comes across as a terrible promoter. As others have said, it is criminal he hasn't got Froch fighting on ITV or sky-and surely it's down to him. Mick and Froch obviously believe he is a 'Box office' fighter-and he should be with his accomplishments, he's had a great career and is more deserving of being on PPV than Khan v job fodder. But sadly he isn't. Nobody outside of nottingham or boxing circles knows who Froch is, and the same cannot be said for Hatton, Khan, and now Haye. Surely that's down to the promotional outfit to y'know, promote their fighter, so they can get the kind of fee from sky that they want.

The only thing to suggest that this fight will sell better than the Dirrell one is because it is at a better time. But honestly, can you see the casual boxing fan who has already spent £15 on Haye v Ruiz 2 weeks earlier forking out the same amount to watch somebody whos entire promotional campaign seems set in the Nottingham Post and on East Midlands Today? You can guarantee haye will be on Paul O'Grady, Jonathan Ross, Soccer AM and more in the weeks leading up to the Ruiz fight.

Froch deserves a hell of a lot more mainstream appreciation than he gets. But he won't, and thats bad promoting.

I think Chinny, Wrists and coco are spot on with what they have said in this thread.

Why did Hennessy say he was announcing a tv deal because I thought he had said all of the Super 6 fights would be on Primetime?

I wont pay for it because there's guaranteed a free stream online and the internet police dont get to Showtime events easily.

ye but i aint got sky and unless it's on freeview i definitley wont buy the internet stream coz that just didnt happen for me on the opening night of the super 6 and the free streams was miles better.

i have to i fully agree with that entire post .
i think that froch is happy to keep doing it in his own backyard but its meaty's job to tell him what he should be doing , whats the point in having a promotor if you dont listen to what there telling you , promotional wise , im not saying its carl fault , hes not a promotor , its his job to fight whos in front of him . the blame lands squarely at mh .
and as someone else said they cant even be arsed to answer questions on their own thread , if they took the time maybe us box rec crew would tell them how to do their job properly.

Urgh. I feel bad for Froch, as he should be on Box office but he needs to realise he isn't a box office fighter. Nobody knows who he is, and nobody would buy his fight three weeks after the Haye v Ruiz fight. It's a shame it really is.

I'm not a promoter, but the fact the Taylor fight didn't get on TV and the Dirrell fight was on an obscure PPV channel won't have helped him at all, and the same here. IF Mick and co had allowed the Taylor and Dirrell fights on sky sports at the price sky wanted, surely they would have been able to garner the PPV deal they crave and feel they deserve for this fight.

Short term loss (although I doubt they made much in the last two fights), long term gain. Imagine how big this fight would be with a year of build up from the sky machine having shown the Taylor and Dirrell fights live on regular sky, matched with Froch's trash talking. Look how Haye, with sky made him in to a household name in a few weeks. I bet it would have sold loads more than Froch's 3 PPV fights combined.

Froch's chances of being a mainstream star known by the casual fans seems to have passed him by, and its a terrible shame.

Totally agree. This seems to be about MH and Froch demanding a box office slot and box office money when what they should be doing is building some bridges with Sky, take less money for it to go on normal Sky and then build the fanbase again from there, building to potential future popv slots if the demand is there, which it clearly isnt right now. Seems like Hennessy in particular needs to get real with his tv demands, but also there must be some kind of feud behind the scenes with Sky which means any tv deal with them is unlikely.

Is he lining his pockets though?Does anyone know what the figures were last time?I would be suprised if they got 20,000.Froch is only "big" in Nottingham,and most of them were either at the arena or cant get Primetime

I would have forgiven Primetime for the errors last time, had it not been so badly handled. Their customer services insisted it was all my own fault for unplugging the phoneline to my Sky Box just before the fight. Which I didn't :)

I won't pay money to any 'business' which treats its customers like Primetime.

Can I just ask why Henessey did not explore the possibility of doing a Joint Promotion with a UK Promotor who already had dates allocated ?

Likewise, following Setanta's demise, the remaining Hayemaker fighters have appeared on Maloney shows.
I appreciate that Froch is above all of these fighters but mathematically would the benefits of taking 50% cut for a Sky date, have outweighted 100% of Primetime ?

I tend to agree with that. I can't help but feel Hennessy overvalued the fight/Froch and priced himself out of it. Obviously its not a simple a problem to fix as many on here would make out but at the end of the day Sky have an interest in boxing and show other promoters shows. So as a promoter if Hennessy can't get dates on Sky/ITV/BBC then he's failed where other promoters have suceeded. Re:Murray, he's a made for tv fighter and in his prime but he's not on tv(much) and not getting regular fights. If I was his adviser, I'd be having serious talks with Hennessy about moving to other promoters.

Anyone know the reason why ITV decided to bail on boxing? Could have Hennessy promotions made concessions to keep boxing on ITV? Or were ITV just keen to "get rid" of boxing. I guess we'll never know for sure.

The people who are saying that Mick should have give Sky Froch Vs Kessler need to get a grip of themselves. Micks job is to make as much money for himself and his fighter, so giving this fight away for a pittance is a ridiculous idea IMO

Mick had 2 options to get Froch Vs Kessler on TV:

1) Give the fight to Sky for a small fee, so they can show it live (i.e. not on SBO)
2) Sell the fight to primetime as a PPV fight and earn a set amount for each sale

Mick must have come to the (correct) conclusion that he can generate more money for him and his fighter by going down the primetime route (good promoting IMO). It's unfortunate that Virgin and Primetime can't sort their shit out, but such is life!

I agree that's its a ridiculous idea to give Sky the fight for free, I mean the guy is in it like anyone else, to make money. But perhaps making less money this time round and going for Sky might be a better investment for the long term? I know a lot more people would see the fight if it was on Sky as opposed to Primetime.
