Re: Smigga v Degale
smith is solid british class.MatthewS wrote:The reason I said that is because he has the potential to go further... to use an example someone like Jon Thaxton - all respect due to him but he was not a world-class fighter - he handled himself well at British level and flirted with European level success... that level of fighter has to deal with the up-and-comers, Smigga has potential to get to the world stage and compete IMO, so lets see him in with some international names. Its all very well us lot as fans saying we dont care about the records the fighters have but TV and the armchair fans do care, so if someone has to have losses why not make it some european or american also-contenders rather than three of our more exciting talents who happen to be at the same weight.
lets let them have their own success and make these fights for proper money proper titles and PPV when the States knows who they are because IMO all of them are good enough for that level.
Smigga first, then Groves Degale and Bellew at the weight above could well be our next generation of British World Champions
not really shown anything beyond that i don't think.
his last defence was an average performance.
admittedly it was a messy one.
and super middle is a tough division anyway in terms of the world title picture.
even the european scene is pretty good.
Re: Smigga v Degale
degale got all the skills in the book ,he would toy with smith .who imo is no more than domestic level at best .groves v smith would be far better tho.think groves would do him tho.
Re: Smigga v Degale
I think there are many factors that come into play about whether this fight will happen.
- Is degale worthy of a shot at Smiths title, he's not currently ranked in the top 5 in the country.
- Degale would probably want 10 fights under his belt before he steps up and fights higher quality opponents.
- Smith may vacate, as i'm sure he has aspirations to achieve more than the British SM title.
I think Frank will have no problem putting the 2 fighters in his stable together, but i think it may come down to whether the 2 fighters would want to fight at the moment, and to be honest I don't think they would at present.
If you want my opinion on who would win at present, then i'd have to go with Smith, Degale may have silky skills, but when you make the step up, you need an awful lot more and Degale hasn't convinced me yet, and until we know he can take a punch and has the heart to grind out a performance over more than 6 rounds, then may be we will know more.

Frank will not put in his highly paid Gold medalist in with one of his best ticket sellers. If Smigga wins, all that investment down the drain,if DeGale wins, who will headline at The Echo, probably the scene of Franks last couple of big shows.Utter madness.

smigga is the bizza

ask pepe correa :P
billy graham took smith, because andy holligan raved on about how good a young kid from the rotunda, under albertinis guidance was .
people rave on about how he aint carried on his am success but he's virtually unbeaten & has never looked in trouble.the super middle division is much tougher then the middles were i would throw smith straight in the deep end.it's silly to cap someone who hasnt fought a top international fighter, but until he does i suppose he's gonna be criticised.

i have said this before and i am sure others on here have, he has ability, but not great skills IMO. he's fast and with decent reflexes and so on but his basic technique, backing straight out, getting caught off-balance, chin in the air, often shows huge holes IMO.Tbone1 wrote:degale got all the skills in the book ,.

Reality of this, it would be a good fight but when Smigga wins his next fight, there is only one option to fight Magee. Why bother fighting a newcomer when he is well establish and looking at bigger and better things.
Come on Smigga, i'm behind you!

Shows how much you know.stujones wrote:I think Paul will be geared toward some kind of interim vacant WBO belt than fight Degale.
Can see Degale being pushed along and fight Paul when the stakes are bigger - I cannot see FW getting one of his brightest prospects and one of his biggest ticket sellers in the ring immediately. It might happen in the future.

Paul Smith has come into the bookies at 15/8 and Degale is 2/5. Very nice price to back Smigga at.
