Prescott's power is GREATLY overrated. Only two of his last seven fights have ended in a knockout, and one of those wins was against a bum.

Classic boxer-puncher match-up. Khan can box rings around Maidana all night but all takes is one clean shot from the Argie and it will be goodnight for Amir once again. Fascinating fight on paper, Khan is going to have to show some heart I reckon.

I don't know about that, Prescott has plenty of power when he swings for the fences and lands! I think his recent loses are because he has gone from an unknown quantity to a boxer everyone can fathom out and beat after watching a few of his fights on tape.

Wth the exception of the notoriously chinny Khan, Prescott has only knocked out bums. Toledo and Cuello had been stoped multiple times and Prescott was unable to do so, despite hitting them with everything but the kitchen sink.

Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a debate about Prescott's power. I think Khan has improved to a point where even a legitimate big puncher will have trouble hurting him. Not because Khan's chin has improved, but his defence seems to have come a long way.

Yeah khan lost the fight because he wasnt aware prescott could come out banging like that - fighters since have kept there distance from him in the ring and boxed rings around him. Kevin Mitchell is nowhere on the same level as khan and he took him to school. If he had been the first guy to get in the ring with him as an unknown, i'd bet he would have got sparked in the first couple of seconds as well.

And as crusader said khans defence was awful before, that ko is the best thing that could have happened to him. Not only has he developed a very effective boxing style but the top fighters wont be avoiding him because after he's been knocked out, they'll fancy their chances.

Who's he proven this 'new defence' against?

Small overmatched guys who can't hurt him.

Let's see him in with dangerous hard hitting fighters now, then we'll know if he can actually compete with everyone, rather than just certain fighters who have a name but no power.

Well Kotelnik has a very good defense but still has to absorb big shots,thats my point!

The fact that Kotelnik and Malignaggi are not punchers does not take away from the defensive master classes Khan put on against them. They do not have big power, that much is obvious. However, they have other strengths that allow them to connect often against most opponents. Kotelnik has very good technique, and knows exactly when to throw a punch. Look at all the punches he landed on Alexander. Malignaggi has good handspeed and boxing ability, which had allowed him to land a fare share of punches against his previous opponents,. Prior to fighting Khan, he had been competative with every opponent he faced, bar Hatton, and even then he managed to sneak in an occasional clean shot.

Both Kotelnik and Malignaggi are skilled guys capable of placing their punches with accuracy, but neither of them could lay a glove on Khan. You can mention the fact that they are not punchers, but even if they had devastating one punch power, they would have lost to Khan, because they couldn't land.

Sure, bigger punchers like Maidana will pose a threat; Khan does have a notoriously bad chin, but they have to land on that chin, and that will be very difficult.

That's all very well crusader, but you're dismissing or not even considering the psychological aspect of fighting light hitters such as malignaggi & kotelnik to someone like Maidana.

That is what intrigues me at least.

If Khan puts on another 'master class' against someone like Maidana then we know he is well on his way.

If Khan were to fight a puncher like Maidana, I imagine he would be more cautious and take less chances, therefore leaving himself open even less. Hopefully, Khan fights Maidana next and we get to find out. I think Khan would outclass Maidana.

LOL i think most ppl are aware of Khan's chin problems but i'm just trying to inform ppl like yourself that Maidana is vunerable too. Maidana is open and as shown by the video posted he can get knocked down by featherfisted bums. I'm pretty sure Khan will be able to drop him considering his speed!

Its true that Kotelnik does have very good technique but his foot speed is slow as anything and thats why khan had a field day with him!Regarding the kotelnik/alexander fight well i think the fact that alexander was a southpaw actually aided kotelnik to some extent.It was easier for him to land his accurate shots especially the straight right and the jab.Also alexander didnt use his feet enough in that fight which would of helped him alot.Finally regarding Malignaggi well again he is a very skilled boxer but he's always been a guy who's relied on his foot speed and reflexes and it was clear to me against khan that he has slowed down somewhat with age!If you go and look at his rematch against Juan Diaz you'll also see that he wasnt moving around the ring as much as he did in previous fights.Thats a sign that he's starting to age and his reflexes arent as good as they once were.

Christ, the criticism Khan is getting on this thread is way over the top.

You'd have thought he'd only fought bums for the last few years.

Look, he bossed Kotelnik, but just because he bossed him, doesn't make Kotelnik bad. Kotelnik was a proper 140lb fighter (which exposes as absurd those people who have argued here that Khan has only fought "smaller" fighters), and had only the fight before beaten Maidana. Since his defeat against Khan, he's pushed highly rated and undefeated Devon Alexander all the way in a fight many thought he should have won. Malignaggi had looked a transformed fighter since leaving McGirt, and had done very well against Juan Diaz, who, if we remember, was giving Marquez all kinds of problems before the great Mexican turned things around. Again, Malignaggi was a career 140 lb-er.

And Khan bossed both these fights in a way that no other boxer has done to these men.

Has he got a suspect chin? Yes, and I think that his time at the Wild Card has proven that, as there have been some murmurs emerge that say he's been knocked over or put on queer street a few times in sparring.

Might Maidana knock his block off? Yes.

But none of that changed that Khan is clearly a world class operator in a division packed with exciting, emerging talent. And given the crushing nature of his defeat against Prescott, we should be impressed that he was bold enough to recognise that things weren't going right, and move to a new country in search of something to get him on the right track. And his post-Prescott rebuilding process is pretty unimpeachable, and certainly will be if he fights and beats Maidana.
