Light welter I would have thought . Most of us are there or there about. I've never been one to sulk over giving away a pound or two. Just praying I get the chance. With fair notice I can get in top shape, mentally as well as physical.

When Ian McNeilly suggested such a tournament in last month's BM he was obviously being a bit tongue in cheek, but the more I think about it the more the idea appeals. I think that such a tourney would attract a decent-sized viewing figure for Sky. After all, many of the Prizefighter shows have not been driven by the inclusion of star names.
Anyone who has followed boxing closely over the years will realise that to be a good journeyman you have to be a bloody capable boxer. The real stalwarts are incredibly experienced, having encountered an enormous variety of styles and, most importantly, having learned to survive and emerge unscathed against talented fighters in order to be able to do it all again a couple of weeks later.
It would be a mistake to assume that good journeymen are 'only' negative fighters, they just choose to be - I've lost count of the number of times I've seen a Buckley or a Booth lose fights they have been more than capable of winning. So to give journeymen something to compete for, on a level playing field, as Johnny says, and which would not impact on their future job opportunities, has a definite appeal. It would be fascinating to see them give it a good go, a real eye opener. People would be surprised by the quality of boxing they might see.
My only fear would be that the journeymen might not go for it in in the tournament for fear of suffering a stoppage loss or injury that would sideline them and reduce their earning capabilities in the weeks after the tournament. Would they actually be capable of losing the survivor mentality for an evening? Is it too ingrained? Johnny, be interested in your views on that if you are out there fella. Thanks.

Hi glyn. Like I said. I have been in touch with a few lads on the list. We are agreed that this would be once in a lifetime opportunity. I for one would literally jump at this. Every time we enter the ring , there,s a chance of injury , cuts it even stoppage . The rewards far outweigh the risk . A chance of glory is our dream

Fair play and thanks for that John. Like I said, if you lads really went out there and gave it all you've got, a lot of people would be surprised by the quality of boxing on show, I'm sure. I'd love to see this tournament.

Goodluck with it all. I would love to see it, if I am honest I think it would be probably better to pitch it to Eurosport (who do this Bigger's Better thing). I just cannot see Sky promoting it. Since the lightweight disasterous one, Barry Hearn has been putting in a lot more effort trying to get bigger names, and it seems to be the way forward. Even not ammending column inches dedicated to stressing the comeback of Robin Reid!
Having said that, when Billy Bessey first came on here several months before Prizefighter 1 - saying about the pitch to Sky. I don't think that many took it seriously. Let alone predict it will be the success it is now.

I just saw ed Robinson at the peacock gym , he said he'd mention it to Eddie hearn. The only thing he said he's worried about would be some of us going into survival mode. I dissagreed, it couldn't be no worse than the last heavyweight shower. Here,s hoping they repay us and put some faith into us. Boxing owes us I Think

id like to see barrington brown in this , hes a guy who in my opinion is a lot better than his record suggests , but he could be a bit light for it .
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
Couldnt it be done as an undercard to another prizefighter , that way theres no moaning about viewing figures etc

It should be sold as the Rocky story... 100% that is going to sell to joe public. The betting will make huge amounts as people use losses as opposed to wins to try and gauge who the favourite is- it would be a brilliant move I think I'd wholheartedly support it, and if it were above 10st 7lbs i'd want to be in it.

If there could be another story in addition to winning money then I could see it being a "Rocky story".... without it though, it would be just "Rocky vs Spider Rico" which couldn't even sell out a tiny venue in Philly.
Maybe a rule so the winner gets a shot at a Masters title or something, then you an extra stroy.

Prizefighter champion?? Good little tag. That would be worth fighting for.

Well it is, but I just don't see the Rocky esque story, cause its not necessarily "against the odds" - cause its the same level of opposition.
I wish it all the best, if there is a petition I will sign up for it. Just cannot see TV execs going for it.

True- but still to prove yourself the best of the lot would be a great achievement especially for these guys who rarely get a fair crack

the odds on this would be all over the show the bookies wouldnt have a clue where to start but i agree with the concept and it could be fasicanting. i see no reason why journeyman would want to go into their shells in a 3 round fight for such big sums of money at stake.

Johnny , Would it not be possible for Carl to do something like this under a different title , i know he wouldnt be able to put up the same sort of prizemoney , but if he could do it succesfully as something like "the journeyman league " or whatever then maybe if the thing was a descent standard it could push hearn into doing it as an actual prizefighter in future or something .
Or is it just basically not economically feasible for him to do ?

Do Promotors really need tv nowadays , just thinking that with the internet that it opens up a world of opportunities , ive day dreamed many times about promoting pro rather than doing the white collar ( finances dont allow me that pleasure ) , and ive often thought of ways to utilise the internet via ppv , small fee to view a show , £5 maybe , it would bring in extra revenue , lets face it £5 isnt much to a boxing fan wanting to watch a good show .
