Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
If Bomber needs to change things up for his own benefit then that's up to him. If he feels doing a 1.30hr round trip per day is impacting on his training approach / domestic situation, and feels cutting that out will benefit him then fair enough.
Likewise sometimes with a trainer / fighter you can get a square peg with a round hole. Nobody at fault it just sometimes goes like that when trying to evolve in a certain manner.
Shevchenko was the most feared striker in football when he left AC milan, after becoming their second highest scorer in the club's history - and was a totally up the creek when he slotted into the Chelsea team. It happens.
Whether it was the change from the surroundings, loss of confidence, team set up - who knows. But sports psychology is big business nowadays for a genuine reason.

Also the Liverpool to Manchester journey can be a bitch some days with the traffic, so 45 mins is probably on a good day. Sometimes takes me an hour to get halfway round the M60.

Manchester is one of the most horrible places to drive and it's because I am from Liverpool!TheCobra wrote:Also the Liverpool to Manchester journey can be a bitch some days with the traffic, so 45 mins is probably on a good day. Sometimes takes me an hour to get halfway round the M60.
Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
fecking hell, poor chap, imagine having to travel half an hour to work every day, most of us do that, if its a 4 stop underground journey, or a 30 mile motorway dash, or a 1.5 mile walk, or a 3 mile local bus journey, or a 15 mile train journey....its all half an hour!!!!.....we all bloody do it...!!!!jBacca wrote:Bomber 1 wrote:This is purely down to traveling reasons only, Arnie is a good coach and it was a hard decision but my family come first and that's it.. Like I said this is nothing to do with Arnie as a coach cos the guy is a top coach!!![]()
Can imagine it being a ball-ache making the journey day in, day out.
All the best fella.
so what is the real reasoning behind this??..... half hour journey my ar5e!!.......
come on bomber........spill the beans mate..
Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
Yeah, it does seem a tad strange. If Arnie is as good as Bomber says then surely a 40 min commute isn't the worst sacrifice to make. It takes me 2 buses and over an hour to get to work, so in comparison I would say that a 40 min drive is rather pleasant.
Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
Double the half hour and you're closer to the length of time. Most people do it, but most people aren't training like him every day, so can imagine they won't be fvcked by the time you're due to drive home.rhino222 wrote:fecking hell, poor chap, imagine having to travel half an hour to work every day, most of us do that, if its a 4 stop underground journey, or a 30 mile motorway dash, or a 1.5 mile walk, or a 3 mile local bus journey, or a 15 mile train journey....its all half an hour!!!!.....we all bloody do it...!!!!jBacca wrote:Bomber 1 wrote:This is purely down to traveling reasons only, Arnie is a good coach and it was a hard decision but my family come first and that's it.. Regardless, Tony has given his answer on a couple of occasions and I don't think it's great requestioning the fella', especially with the pair of them being on the site, it's a tad disrespectful.

Just a thought, rather than accusing a boxer on a public forum of being dis-honest and in the process, well i'm not sure what your trying to achieve. Why not just PM him? if you want further clarification.Deserter wrote:I've always had huge respect for the way Tony conducts himself on here, but I'm sorry to say that this is the first time I think he's not being completely honest.
To be frank that commute is nothing in the scheme of things as most of us know through experience (Most people have a longer commute than that and will do longer 'work' hours than Tony does as a pro) and historically any fighter aspiring to reach the top will make far bigger sacrifices than that for a benefit like getting access to the best trainer for them.
I can understand why Tony wants to have a 'neutral' angle like this for the split given he's clearly a nice guy and gets on with Arnie, but this reeks of 'advice' from you know who and his team on the basis of his last couple of performances.... different scenario, but for me this has shades of the Khan and Harrison split.

Simply because it's a public forum - why do people not get this? If Tony chooses to go public with his claim, equally others are entitled to voice their opinion on it.
It's amazing how people want to both change the goalposts when it's a boxer posting rather than a regular poster, and also suspend their normal thought processes and logic.
I'm a huge fan of Froch, but that didn't stop me from saying that I thought the 'back injury' claim that got him out of the original date with Abraham was fabricated (and still do), but from memory no-one said I was out of order for expressing that opinion. You, however, seem to be saying that if Froch had posted that on here rather than it coming from his press officer I should have only replied by PM?!
What if hypothetically Dirrell had come on here and said about his "neurological problems" preventing him fighting Ward? That's now looking like utter baloney but by your rationale no-one would have been able to publicly express their doubts.
Anyone who's been around boxing knows there have been plenty of examples over the years of fighters who have spoken on a subject, whether that's moving trainers, managers, pulling out of a fight, retirement etc, only to subsequently have been proven to have been 'liberal with the truth'. Invariably it's not done maliciously, but to protect financial interests, relationships etc.
Given this I'm genuinely surprised that some people are expecting everyone to simply buy this at face value and not dare question it.
So, just a thought Wadey, but why don't you actually stop and think about the fact that some people on here don't like it when they feel they're being 'sold a line' and reserve the right to question it accordingly...
Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
The thing is, its only you that seems to have this opinion which you got an answer from Bomber for, so why the crusade to disbelieve him, and in the process show a complete lack of respect to a person who's profession is what the forum is all about.
We can all be keyboard warrior's and hide behind our screens by being contraversial and looking for conflict with people, but i'm afraid most people find that sad, while others like your self obviously seem to strive in it.
I'm afraid your post was typical of what is extremelly annoying about this forum.

Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
Wadey, are you truly blind? There are more than a few people on here who clearly hold the same view. Furthermore, where is the crusade? I made my points and after Tony diplomatically said he was choosing not to comment any further I didn't rant and rave that he was ducking my points/questions, I respected that and didn't comment again until you questioned me.wadey wrote:The thing is, its only you that seems to have this opinion which you got an answer from Bomber for, so why the crusade to disbelieve him, and in the process show a complete lack of respect to a person who's profession is what the forum is all about.

The keyboard warriors comment is just laughable - you clearly don't know the first thing about me as a poster, as if you had the slightest awareness of my 'history' on this forum you'd know that on numerous occasions I've taken issues with 'trolls' like Lirva who have set out to bait boxers and be deliberately controversial - including times when it's involved Tony himself.
Finally, I notice you weren't actually able to respond to a single one of my fairly made points, which tells its own story...
I do, of course, apologise though if you find posters who both treat boxers as fellow adults and who actually express their right to have their own opinion "extremely annoying".
Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
For the record i'd respond to any thing if i believed it was relevant, but in my opinion it wasn't. Fighters pulling out of fights or as your saying making excuses has a bearing in more ways than one and deserves to be questioned. I for one have purchased tickets for an event when a fighter has pulled out and your left to believe whether it is legitimate or not.
Now if a fighter chooses to change trainers, why is there a need to question it, and in the process be extremelly rude about it? and do so on a public forum, where if it really bothered you as it obviously did, why not just drop them a PM?
By the way sarcasm isnt a good trate in the world of communication?

Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
I'm sure there is a bit more to it than just the distance, maybe some other niggles who knows (although I do accept that 2 hours travelling a day could get a bit tiring rather than living where you train), but really it's none of our business the ins and outs of people's lives!

Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
Correct, it is time to move on.. as Tony said its between him and Arnie whether we agree or not. I was with Arnie on saturday night in Liverpool and i can say that there is absoloutly no animosity what so ever from him towards Tony... They are still mates and above all else both professionals so time to move on!!!!!!!Jeff Thomas wrote:Bomber 1 wrote:I've give the reasons and I'll no longer elaborate on it, it's mine and Arnies business and the main thing is we remain good friends and want the best for each other, thanks guys ;)
Fair play Tony and to be honest I think its unfair for anyone to ask of anymore info really.

My last comment on this as I appreciate it's getting tedious for everyone else:wadey wrote:For the record i'd respond to any thing if i believed it was relevant, but in my opinion it wasn't. You're entitled to your opinion but equally you have to accept I'm entitled to mine rather than seeking to chastise me at every turn.
Tony chose to comment on it publicly on this forum and as such it was out in the public domain and therefore I believe everyone on the forum is entitled to express an opinion - in this case I genuinely believe he has chosen to put a 'spin' on the story and I fully admit I've got an issue with someone deliberately misleading people when a dignified silence would have sufficed - my initial reaction when I read his post was along the lines of 'please don't take me for a mug'.
Now if I'm wrong, I've got no problem with apologising. But should events further down the line bear me out, I hope you'll accept that I was not only right to be sceptical but right to question it.
Just to conclude, I'd take no particular pleasure in being right as whether you choose to believe me or not, I remain a fan of both Tony and Arnie. Just because I've taken issue with one individual action does not mean I've embarked on a character assassination.
By the way, it's trait, not trate.
Re: Tony Bellew Splits With Arnie
It is not only him questioning the traveling commute, it is that you have only picked him up on it. Lets all be honest most people have to commute to work every day and do some very stressful jobs, I live in Cardiff and travelled every day to North Somerset in rush hour traffic for 18 Months, I used to leave the house in the dark and come home in the dark (not seeing my 2 young children at all some days especialy if there was an accident on the M4) I have said before that it is very strange to change trainer this close to a big fight, surely if Anthony was the right trainer then the break could have waited or indeed Anthony could have traveled to Liverpool instead. I really do not care why TB changed trainer but what I will say is that for what it is worth he has made the right choice. Oh and I am not a keyboard warrior (I would prob lose to be honestwadey wrote:The thing is, its only you that seems to have this opinion which you got an answer from Bomber for, so why the crusade to disbelieve him, and in the process show a complete lack of respect to a person who's profession is what the forum is all about.
