Just because he didn't paste people when he was sober when he was out doesn't mean he was a decent or good man. (He'd not have been drunk when he was taxing and raping his way through jail).
The possibility of getting bummed and / or battered by Sykes might have been responsible for stopping some people re-offending. Subconsciously, Sykes may have helped straighten you out Simon.

I know that he has been panned in some quarters for his appearances on Sky, and I am amazed that we have not mentioned one Ivanson Ranny Nelson (or to the rest of us Johnny Nelson). Loses his first three fights in the paid ranks, gets together wins the British Cruiser title. From 1992 to 1995 his fortunes flucuate drops down to Cruiserweight and then goes on a roll racks 13 defences of the WBO cruiserweight title and finishes as a World champion.

'Peerless' Jim Driscoll. I'm sure anyone who knows his story is inspired to be a better person.

Facing a possible Syksey arse assault would have been enough to scare most people onto the straight and narrow, I would have thought.

Three basic rules for survival when approached by a pissed up Sykes

1) Never have your hands in your pockets
2) Tell him you played rugby and have done ever since you can remember
3) Agree with him that skipping is the best exercise known to man or beast.

If you followed those rules, you were on the road to safety and indeed, had an over average chance of being announced to his crowd of hangers-on, as "A fornicate*ng great c*nt"

I saw him take a couple of beatings, but it was always a gang that did him and always when he was hammered on the booze. Usually a pack of lads from Leeds or Sheffield, never Wakefield as they would not take the risk. He used to terrorize doormen all the time.

Sober and in shape, there were not too many that could handle him in a street fight. Scared me to death at times. Booze was his downfall, as he was no real problem when sober (at least as far as Joe Public were concerned)
That just about confirms everything i saw with my own eyes. The people claiming victories over him did it when he was drunk. As i said, a seriously handy guy sober. I am too young to remember him in his prime but used to see him about shows when i was a teen. He was still unbelievebly feared then.

The YP wing was a lot better than "hep" C wing! BTW, i dont think he deserves a film either, i was just responding to someone else bringing him up.

Sykes almost got it on with Lenny Mclean, that would of been tastey
Lenny would have been in trouble. He was nowhere near the standard Sykes boxed at.
We'll never know, i'd bet my life on Lenny if it would of been on the cobbles, but in the ring im not sure.
What could Lenny do ‘on the cobbles’ that Sykes couldn’t? Cracks me up when people think it’s some kind of great equaliser and competent pro’s will suddenly be rendered incompetent in a match fight vs glorified doormen.

Yeah it would be so dull. Train, go ho home, win titles, get married, have kids, lose, retire, get fat, half kill someone, become a recluse.

Yuck no thanks!

Why not “Yo Stay Humble I’m a Gangster Me”, the story of Big Anthony Joshua’s rise through the mean streets of Watford before his shocking prison hell of one month on remand, where he turned a corner reading Big Meech’s memoirs in his cell?

Guy Ritchie can direct it.
