I'm a big fan of the Irishman. Magee gets my respect because he is prepared to take on big tasks and give it a go, and go out on his shield if required. There's nothing not to like about Magee.
But to walk round calling yourself 'champ' when you fight opponents a level or two below you, whilst swerving worthy opponents in your weight class - all of which in your hometown doesn't get my respect.
Some nice responses following my post..... I just don't think Kelly looked that bad in his previous fight. Personally, I've never been convinced he was a "great" in the making. He clearly won his last fight against a decent opponent. He has Cunningham next, who also shouldn't win but is a nice little test.
Agree with large points of what your saying.... although personally it is largely AFTER the Froch fight in which people have praised Johnson. In my opinion, he didn't look particularly great vs Green and has been largely losing the big ones at Light Heavy of late. He did alot better than I expected against Carl.
Yes, I can see why alot of Froch/Ward fans might seem annoyed/frustrated at Bute - but personally I don't care what their resumes are at the moment - as long as they do fight.... Bute's proven himself a worthy "challenger" to the super 6 champion. He has a better win resume than Dirrel. I'll stand by my point, Pavlik is the best available challenger out there - Dirrel has also been out for 18 months, who knows what shape he will be like on his return. I'm still not convinced there were no problems following the Abraham fight - he's been out of the ring along time.... he twittered a return less than 6 months after that fight...... but only now he is fighting.... see how he looks against Demmers before declaring him "back".
Kessler and Steiglitz are fighting - so there goes the 2 best non Super 6 opponents..... so who out of those available would you rather see Bute face?

I think someone like Green or Johnson would be a step up from what he's been facing. I like Johnson in his fight with Green, he was relentless and wouldn't let him off the hook.

Green I would say is comparable to the better guys Bute has been facing (not a step up, on the same lines) - Johnson is better, but I think Pavlik is a step in the right direction and the best available opponent for Bute.

Following a long stay in rehab, a horrible MD win over a no-mark .........and now over the weekend he was in a drunken brawl with his brother at his mum's house.
Pavlik smashed in an outside door and grabbed his older brother and dragged him through the door's broken glass window, cutting them both to shreds. Police called and are investigating.
Obviously the guy is completely wrecked now and no way should he be afforded a chance against a belt holder.
Call me a cynic, but I reckon Bute's cherry-picking team will now move heaven and high water to make a Pavlik fight.
