classy response, you're a good guy arnie :TU:
x2 These are all just 'growing pains' for Arnie and as strange as it may sound, it's these types of experiences that will potentially see him go from strength to strength. To paraphrase an old saying, it's not about how you get knocked down, it's about how you get back up :TU:
Its no way Arnies fault and arnie knows how the business works with fighters and trainers and progression etc. but i will reitterate again.... its plain to see that funtimes biggest threat to his career is himself, he need to knuckle down, shed the few required pounds and sort his stamina out. gavin could win a world title at lightweight, could do well at LWW but stands no chance of progressing further than British title level at WW. FFS.... curtis is no worldbeater (much as i love him) but gavin struggled to beat him at WW.

I hope Frankie comes to terms with what has happened, My sympathy to Him, it will take time to recover. This has nothing to do with Boxing, good luck. Arnie was doing a good Job.

It's not very nice to see his personal life discussed on a forum...

As has already been previously mentioned, Frankie put it in the public domain himself. Furthermore, I haven't seen anything on here other than sympathy and good wishes, which is surely only going to make him realise people have only positive sentiments towards him.

Exactly!! Boxing all day yeah, his personal life should never be brought up :-( saddest thing is, Frankie is just too honest! That's why everyone loves him! I've known him a long time and he's a strong kid who'll come outta this a stronger and better person as well as a fighter secondly! ;-)

Gavin has apparently revealed the son thing in a boxing magazine it's in the open for people to discuss. As for changing trainers that's bread and butter chat for boxing fans if peeps want to keep their shit private stay out the limelight.

Ye it`s there for the sad low lives to discuss. If Frankie shakes off all the parasites he`ll be in the limelight for a long time to come.
Sad low lives? I don't even understand what you mean?

Nigel Benn v Henry Wharton and Mitchell v Presscott are two excellent examples of the versatility of Jimmy Tibbs. The best trainer in Britain IMO.

I think Tibbs is excellent, but as I touched on earlier in the thread, I'm struggling to think of examples where he's been able to work effectively with a fighter with Gavin's particular skillset i.e. pure boxers.

Hard to think of an active British trainer that has. We haven't produced too many of them in the last 20 years or so. Will be interesting to see what Tibbs does with him.

Yeah he was the first that came to mind, but Naz, Graham, Nelson, Witter etc were quite different fighters from Gavin.

Do I not recall reading (when he first turned pro) that he was sent to Manchester because he was hanging about with the nutters a bit too much in Brum?

I'd love to see him do well, I really would, but there are only so many fresh starts someone is going to be able to get.

MachoMan09 wrote:This is almost certainly the right move and given Gavin's woeful performances in his last two outings it was an inevitability - as I wrote at the time. Farnell will likely take this hard but it is part of the learning process and however down he feels today, it will be no worse than how Brian Hughes felt when he (Arnie) chose to move to pastures new. Gavin, in my view, needs somebody to get a grip of him. He's got all the talent in the world but he's a prat, you could see that by the way he was conducting himself when he and Farnell were being interviewed by that lass from FWTV before his last fight and his general conduct in the run up to that event. He needs to get serious and that will require a disciplinarian to be brought in - Tibbs is, therefore, ideal.
Good point m8 I know where ur coming from with that one but the difference is I live in the gym & give 100% to all my fighters.
ps but I take ur point m8.
Not being funny m8 but u don't no the facts about Myself & Brian and why I moved. I understand what u are saying but this is none of the sort. Brain was very good.......... At blagging.

It's all about perspective, mate. You were younger than Frankie when you left Brian, twenty-three (ish), just a kid really. And whatever you thought at the time, I don't think your loss against Tak had anything to do with what Brian did or didn't do in the gym. You got too hyped up on the day/night of the fight and got caught with a silly, yet quality, shot and that was that. It looked like a crushing defeat but it really wasn't, you just got clipped, it can happen to anyone. Fair enough Brian couldn't pad you personally but does that really matter? Fergie doesn't take part in drills at Carrington, he watches and points stuff out. Other people are more hands on. Horses for courses.

Regardless, when you left him he was absolutely gutted, just as you'll be gutted now and I can almost guarantee that he was asking himself 'why?' just as you'll be asking yourself 'why?'. In the same way you could probably list a load of reason why moving to Billy's was a better option for you than staying at C&M, Frankie will be able to come up with a list of reasons why moving to Jimmy's is the right move for him; likewise Reidy could come up with a load of reasons why staying at C&M was right for him and so on... The facts are: fighters have to do what they thing is right for them at the time; and loyalty is for dogs (sadly). Keep your head up, mate, and learn from it.

Its down to Frankie to be his own disciplinarian.
Also he hates flying , so no chance of him getting to America for a spell in their gyms.
the hates flying bit is a joke, he travelled the world as an amateur for years !
If he hates flying, all the more reason for him to move to America, all the biggest fights are in America so that would stop him having to fly all over the world.

You have just had two of your big name boxers leave you within 6 months (whatever their reasons, they clearly don't think you're good enough to take them to the next level). You boasted that Matthew Hall was 10 x better since he joined you and then got him knocked out. You claimed that if David Barnes didn't win a world title with you, you'd pack it in only to have David leave you soon afterwards (you say you kicked him out, David suggests otherwise). You have seen Antony Crolla progress massively since leaving you where even his coach has told you mind your own business (he obviously recognises and values how good a coach you are). You have yet to lead any of your fighters to a significant title and yet your are more concerned with coming on a boxing website and sniping at a coach that has achieved a hell of a lot more than you ever have (but maybe he did all of that simply blagging?) I think that says a great deal about you and your mentality more than anyone else, pal.

If I was you, I'd be taking a long hard look in the mirror and asking yourself why you haven't yet lived up to any of your boasts (you claimed that you were developing the Wildcard gym of UK). I'd be questioning whether your boast of sleeping in the gym really is producing your desired results and I'd work on better corner work than when you urged Tony Below to "think of your kids Christmas presents" when helping him come up with a strategy for his fight after he'd been scrambled. I'm not sure that Freddie Roach has used that one yet. As a non-blagger yourself, how about sharing it with him?

Any way, as someone who specialised in excuses as a fighter for whenever you got beat (after Takaloo, it was Brian, after Groenwald, it was the judgesand Billy Graham for not giving you enough attention, after Monteiro, it was 'illness') I will look forward to your latest excuses.
brian hughes is a top trainer.....farnell had the pick of warren's prospects and (apart from his strange comments at press conferences) has done nothing as a trainer......he should show brian hughes some respect
