Yes I have to agree, I also disagreed with people who thought he looked in shape when he was ringside at York hall a few weeks back, but I'm confident he will be in great shape come September, he should grow his hair a little too !jamiedavies02 wrote:Mitchell looked badly out of shape on his breif Ringside appearance last night

Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
I've not watched Ringside yet; I'll be a bit disppointed if he looks bloated; he looked well at a bout I watched on TV a month or so ago. Kevin can win; he has a lovely sharp shooting style at his best but will need to be in great condition to beat Ricky. If he scrimps on the hard work or cuts the weight sloppy then a hard bout will turn into a good hiding; Kevin will need his best to beat Burns; if he brings it he wins the title, away from home and against form. (Burns really troubled Katsidis with his body punching; though I feel Katsidis was done in by then; Ricky will hurt Kevin to the body).

i dont think burns would beat murray let alone mitchell, dont get me wrong burns is a brilliant fighter but this is michells time to shine.billy nelson wrote:Please remember guys Rickys been in with much BIGGER punchers than Kevin,Martinez,Moses and Katsitas all of whom were dealt with professionally has will Kevin.
Kevin is a good fighter who has to prove hes world class unfortunately he wont get the chance in this fight.

Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
Mitchell is a good fighter but his activity and general quality of opponents are pretty inferior. Has he improved? No, not really.
The Murray performance was a good one but Burn's is so big at LW and strong, he will just outbox Kevin. Kevin has plenty of bottle but the key is, can he hurt Ricky? Katsides could not and Ricky has fought much harder punchers than Kevin. If Kevin can't put a dent in Ricky, then he loses widely.

Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
Things don't work that way. It's not that simple. You only have to look at fights throughout history. Infact, Mitchell KO'd Johannson yet Johannson outpointed Burns so it could be argued that Burns and Mitchell wasn't at their best those nights. You can't go by the past results.Brute wrote:Burns outpointed Katsidis, Katsidis stopped Mitchell in three rounds.
I think Burns will win.
Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
Burns could beat the current, plodding version of Murray one handed, just jab away all night.dan28uk wrote:i dont think burns would beat murray let alone mitchell, dont get me wrong burns is a brilliant fighter but this is michells time to shine.billy nelson wrote:Please remember guys Rickys been in with much BIGGER punchers than Kevin,Martinez,Moses and Katsitas all of whom were dealt with professionally has will Kevin.

Unfortunately John hasn't improved AT ALL in the last three years. He just follows the opponent around the ring getting hit.
The way Murray has regressed technically is disappointing, I'd just instruct Ricky to lead off all night and force Murray to try and counter.... 120-108 x 3.
Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
Burns would thrash Murray, it would be difficult to watch. If Mitchell isnt in shape right now its already too late for him. Burns will take him apart.

Tough fight for Burns although I fancy him on points, Kevin has some speed and decent angles and for anyone to say he doesn’t stand a chance is silly.
Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
I agree with you there; John seemed to change his style of boxing and just seemed to imagine he was Marvin Hagler (chin not ability). He looked fantastic coming up to British level; like a good mexican; and then seemed to feel he couldn't be hurt - in straight up and little head movement. It is a shame; at his best he was class, accuarate, good variety, good angulation, great engine and gears and a bosses mentality. To chuck that away to march forward is a real pity. I hope he gets his head together changes things up and get back at it. A rejuvinated Murray v Rees or Matthews would be some bout.LeedsLad wrote:Burns could beat the current, plodding version of Murray one handed, just jab away all night.dan28uk wrote:i dont think burns would beat murray let alone mitchell, dont get me wrong burns is a brilliant fighter but this is michells time to shine.billy nelson wrote:Please remember guys Rickys been in with much BIGGER punchers than Kevin,Martinez,Moses and Katsitas all of whom were dealt with professionally has will Kevin.

Never usually think a fight could end in a draw but it wouldn't be a bad bet for this one, going to be very tight. A few quid at 33/1 is not a bad shout??

Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
I refuse to use Katsidas as a marker for these two as both faced him at rather different stages, Mitchell faced him when he was back on the rise and Burns beat him after Katsidas had been beat and was on a slide.
The way I see it going is Burns, he will be the man in the better condition and he will be the man who puts the work rate in to take the fight the distance to win on points. The Murray fight made Mitchell look out of this world but the reality is John Murray was a walking target that night and Mitchell broke him with some excellent shots.
Burns on points.

I'm not sure how Mitchell can win unless he catches Burns cold.
Ricky is vastly underated and is too good all round for Mitchell.
Good fight though

Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
I'm still undecided as to who wins this fight but for me the key areas to deciding who wins are:
- Fighting on the inside: Mitchell wins hands down fighting on the inside IMO. He has more power and natural strength having been at the weight for a lot longer than Burns. Against Murray, Mitchell's best work was on the inside and staying close and eventually wearing Murray down. Burns vs Moses in the middle rounds got a bit sloppy and uncomfortable in a few ways for Burns when on the inside.
- Pressure - I really think if Mitchell makes him fight on the inside with constant pressure and not allowing Burns time to think and use his jab he can wear him down. However much of this will come down to fitness, and I think Burns will be in better condition than Mitchell come fight night given Mitchell's lack of activity in the last 2 years or so. The last quarter of the fight will be key.
- Experience - Mitchell is still relatively inexperienced at a higher level. Only Katsidis and maybe Prescott are notable names at the world level. Burns has beaten Martinez (Debatable how good he is given he has done nowt since), Katsidis (Although shot he still was a good name) and Moses (Good performance). For me the experience for Burns being through the Championship rounds on more occasions edges this part for me.
Looking at it now, I think Burns might edge it on points, but Mitchell has the ability to stop him if he puts constant pressure and is in the right frame of mind to fight 12 hard rounds. He has been in this last chance saloon before, producing his best performance stopping John Murray. It should be a belter

Billy I know you're going to defend your fighter and tell us how he is going to win easy but you were spouting the same shite about Appleby last week.

Re: Ricky Burns V Kevin Mitchell
Burns would pick Murray apart, Mitchell is a much more difficult fight for Burns than Murray would ever be. Murray tries to walk through opponents but Burns is far too tough and experienced to fall victim to that.
Domestically Mitchell is the best fight out there for Burns, Murray is entertaining and hard as nails but Burns would beat him comfortably by UD, others who were mentioned in the past like Crolla just aren't at that level. Harrison being mentioned now also, thats just a money spinner here in Scotland, Burns would win that comfortably I think.
All these domestic names seem to see Burns as some sort of easy route to a world title, when are they gonna give him the credit and respect that he truly deserves? Im hoping that if he deals with Mitchell comfortably then people will finally accept that he is a good genuine world champion.
Personally i'd like to see Burns go and challenge bigger names abroad. Even if he was to lose, id like to see him against the top names instead of being expected to accept domestic challenges left right and centre. (Mitchell, Crolla, Rees, Matthews, Murray, Harrison, not so long ago Appleby was being mentioned also) Give us a break.
