G.I. though you show great ability in engaging in the art of cruel insensitivy, I suspect that there are many here that subscribe to the belief that you will never be the man your mother was.

You should take a leaf out of their book on the subject of conviction, then.

You two should make up and co-author a book on the heavyweights. Mugabi can do the foreword.

I even picked Ali to win the fight that's the topic of this thread, but I'd favor him over Frazier. But since Ali/Frazier were filmed in real-time color . . they must be far better than Dempsey, who was clearly only a great among the grumpity old people of the 20s, who were too high on cocaine and illegal alcohol to recognize skilled pugilism . . thank you for your enlightenment. I see the truth now.

Would you be willing to lend your laminated (in case of "accidents") S.I. cover from FOTC, Nance?

Until I saw your picture Irene I imagined you to be a merv hughes type mustachiod, black leather wearing, white strig vest clad, kind of Aussie, chewing tobacco and spitting it out on the dinner table. Drinking beer on the dunnie, that youd spent time in prison for stealing and that while in prison youd married a bloke called Erskine......and than it all turns out to be true!

You might want to get those prescriptions checked

I recommend caution in regards to the way this thread is devolving.
I also wish to retract my ill advised barb concerning a certain mother-son relationship. It was callous, and uncalled for and not in the spirit of the family friendly atmosphere that I and some others wish to promote here at the forum.
I shall donate generously to G.I.'s favorite charity as atonement...(once he reveals what that is).
Returning to the point....all things equal....my official and unequivocal stand is that Ali should be favored in this exchange.
I stand firm, without doubt, hesitation or ambivalence and fully willing to place my bet.
As always, when two greats enter the ring, I believe FIRMLY that surprises are to be expected. One explosive concussive event from the fists of a great fighter to a vulnerable area of his opponents anatomy perfectly timed, can change everything.
Now that this question has been reduced to it's common denominator, and the facts of the matter properly attended, and the truth announced. I authoritatively declare this question as definitely answered, and urge others to move on with full faith that their work here is done.
Thank you for participating, and good luck in all future postulations as well as any/all acts of hypothecate activity.

That 1983 VHS release with Dempseys fights in crystal clear clarity was the video that just mesmerised me into a firm conviction , Jack would have beaten Ali. Jack was as tough as Ali. He would not be rope a doped. What Henry Cooper did to a admittedly raw Ali, Dempsey would finish. The 1974 Ali who beat Foreman , theres no comparison, Dempsey would be a terrible mix of Fraziers left hook and crouching style and Nortons kryptonite to Ali.

Another firmly, and somewhat sensible perhaps overly sentimental, (also incorrect) viewpoint.
However....We do seem to have whittled this down to...."no draw".

To clarify what i said, I see Dempsey beating Ali in an initial encounter. But Ali winning the rematch(es). A huge measure of Ali's greatness was his ability to adapt and in the two rematches he would win.

That was supposedly said during their rubber match in Manila.

You forgot to also add faster and with one of the best chins on any heavyweight in history

Better chin than Frazier? Based on what? Dempsey was stagered and dropped by fighters that would have barely buckled Fraziers knees.
Dempsey never faced anyone remotely like Ali. He would be befulled by his combination of size, speed, movement and yes, Ali's power.
Ali clear dec or late tko.
Dont forget Frazier's knees buckled under the mighty hands of Ron Stander
And facts don't lie, Frazier was stopped a few times. Dempsey was stopped but once and alot of people believe Dempsey took a dive in that one. He may of hit the canvas, but Dempsey always came back up to win.

No but he did fight all-time power punchers like Gunboat Smith, Fred Fulton, Carl Morris, etc.

Whats there to laugh about? Fulton is indeed one of the top 100 punchers of the last 80-100 years. Morris may of had a weak chin, but his kayo record doesn't lie. Neither does Gunboat Smith's, the man was the white version of Sam McVey, a genuine powerhouse. That being said no Gunboat wasnt a good boxer, but then again neither was Earnie Shavers.

The fact that you have to ask what there is to laugh about is almost as funny as putting those guys in a class with Foreman.
