Sandy Saddler deserves a mention here. He was only stopped in his 2nd fight in a career of 150+. He was great at walking guys down to beat them into submission, despite being hit at least as much himself.

Any guy who could get off the floor eleven times against Max Baer, get up off the canvas several times against Joe Louis, etc. regardless of his abilities deserves credit.

How about Sanderline Williams? Went the distance with Toney twice, Benn, Barkley and McClellan.

Cruiser division isn't prominent, but he faced some hard punchers and was never stopped.

You can add into the mix:

1: Antonio Margarito: Yes we all know he is a cheat for those handwraps but the guy had one of hell when you take into account he was still on his feet when the ref stopped the contest against Shane Mosley and then Manny Pacquiao rearranged his face and was pulled out in the second Cotto fight.

2: Shannon Briggs. Went 12 rounds with George Foreman and Vitali K.
3: Oscar De La Hoya was pulled out in the Pacman fight and was sliced in half by Bernard Hopkins but he was in with somg big punchers like Mosley, Vargas, IKE Quartey

Rodrigo Valdez.
Stopped once early in his career as a lightweight.
Fought the best at middle in a very tough era.

Tapia. Not stopped until he was way past it--and far above his best weight.

The best Chins in history pound-4-pound in my opinion. I have scanned the records saw the fights lives or watched old films and from what I can gather the top 5 is practically in Legendary status for great chins. The bottom five have great chins but not legendary as the premier top 5. FYI top competition is a must fro this list

Mediocre record, but there were a lot of huge punchers who couldn't stop him, and he pulled off the occasional surprise (the Morrison draw and the Wlad KO).

Here a few more to consider:

Jack Britton-Only stopped omnce in well over 300 fights.

Panama Al Brown-Never stopped in well over 100 fights.

Tony Canzoneri-Only stopped once in well over 100 fights.

Johnny Dunddee-Only stopped twice in over 300 fights.

Mike Gibbons-Never stopped on over 100 fights.

Tommy Gibbons-Only stopped once in over 100 fights.

Billly Graham-Never stopped in over 100 fights.

Manuel Ortiz-Only stopped once in over 100 fights.

Johnny Risko-Over 100 fights and only stopped once.

Dick Tiger-Only stopped twice in his career whcih was filled against top competition. One was early in his career (pro less than a year)and the other late in his career against Bob Foster.

Gene Tunney-Never stopped in over 80 fights. Only knocked down once in his entire career.

All of these guys fought top-notch competiton.

Panama Al Brown should also be on the list. Gene Tunney, while also never stopped, refused to face non-white guys and was dropped for the count against Jack Dempsey, I am a computer era guy, so naturally I watched that tape a hundred times. He was Knocked T.F.OUT. That referee was obviously paid, Tunney was down for 16 seconds people. Tunney does not make my list. I welcome others to bring up old-timers like Brown, I will do the research accordingly and put them on my list.

Stop with the ref was bribed crap. It doesn't matter how long you're down when the opponent isn't in the neutral corner where he's supposed to be.

I've never actually seen film of Johnny Dundee so I can't comment on how he carried a shot but I've always though from his record he must have had one helluva chin. He lost 60 odd times but was only stopped twice and it's not like he was a journeyman just in there trying to make the final bell.

The absolute best chin in all of boxing belonged to Spaniard Ignacio Ara (142-24-19 with 63 KO) who was never stopped (and I don't believe he was even dropped) in 187 pro fights. Ara was European middleweight champion and Spanish middleweight and LH champion. He fought in Europe, the US and South America and faced many champions and top contenders including Joe Dundee, Marcel Thil, Kid Tunero, Izzy Grove, Ben Jeby, Relampago Saguero and others of the good fighters of the thirties.

He certainly belongs at the top of any list

He is one guy that while I was growing up,the "old timers" in the fight game around here would always talk about him as a great fighter.
Must of been awesome to see him live.

That is a good pick.
There are probably several other little well known fighters that had great chins. It really is impossible to say with certaintity who had the absolute best. Ara has as good of a case as anyone.

Oscar DeLaHoya.

Lost by KO to BHop yeah,but it wasnt a chin,face, or head shot,it was a bodyshot.
He took the best of BHop's chin,face, and headshots very resiliantly,its just that his gut area wasnt all that great in the resiliance dept. 8)

And against Pac,weighing a very drained 147(All zombified and emaciated),he took a severe beating/thrashing of head/face,and chin shots,and never went down,not even close actually. It was a pleading corner and of course,swelled out eye area,which DLH listened to and wisely adhered to that took him out of that beatdown.

But nevertheless,the man took the best face/head,and chin shots from the best of em without even going down from punches in those areas of the body,it was just the belly of his body that was his true achilles.

Question: Who took prime Tyson and prime Lewis the distance?
Answer: Tony Tucker.
Not stopped until 95, and that was due to swelling against the hard punching Seldon; Tucker was not down.
He got stopped more later in his career, but he'd never eeven been KD'd until huge puncher Lewis did it almost 50 fights into Tucker's career.
