Brian London lived in Blackpool but wasn't from Blackpool. Best boxer fromk Blackpool probably Ronnie Clayton.

Mentioning Hull best;in recent years probably Ricky Beaumont. Hull was a hot bed of good pro fighters ;in the 30's and 40's though never actually produced a British Champion.

You can't mention Saunders and not mention those two ding-dong bouts with Lueshing!

Saunders was a hot and cold fighter, he had some great wins and some bad losses; he overchieved as a pro - though he was a very good amateur; he doesn't mind a row even now from what I've heard and is a handful still.

Calzaghe, Clev and Robbie Regan all literally in a 3-4 mile radius from my house, Steve Robinson trained a 5 min walk away from my primary school and literally just up the road from mine is Ricky Rowlands who's a very decent amateur on the Welsh squad.

I'm not sure how old you are dhb-raging bull; at the minute he is the very best active boxer but Irwin and Woodcock were excellent fighters and had some great wins, Irwin was a fantastic amateur as well, (he turned the Christmas lights on outside the Mansion House one year). (Woodcock was before my time and Irwin a contempary, David 'Diamond' Jules and Kasi Kaihao had some good wins as well as pros).
i am 23 pal i ment to put jamie is the best by a country mile this moment in time :TU: i'm actually good mates with jon jos 2 brothers mick and paul and from denaby myself just round the corner from jon jos parents house hes a legend round this area and he had very good career amatuer and pro with some great wins i respect the hell out of jon jo as does every boxing fan from this area and he won the lonsdale outright what takes some doing but i think jamie has acheived more as a fighter although he hasnt won the lonsdale outright hes beat some top fighters won british commenwealth and the european title hes dominated europe and is on the verge of a world title shot hopefully he can be the first from doncaster to win a world title.... i know most of the fighters from denaby jon jo,stefy bull, steve phillips, mark kelly, kev plant and dean binch all good guys and have good storys off there time fighting

I'd go for the cooper that won the British. Gary I think. Or it could be Danny. If I remember right he held a win over ainsley bingham

Likewise, Witter was from Bradford.

It's like Doncastrians trying to claim him as one of their own because he lives here now.

That's where he lived, but born in Leeds and a Leeds fan. He had a Leeds accent too.

Leeds accent? Not at all. Born in Leeds, raised all his life in York, where he still lives. There are loads of Leeds fans here. If you ask Henry, he would definately say he is from York.

Fair enough, he used to be on Look North regularly and I always thought he had a Leeds accent. He lived round the corner from a mate of mine when he was at law school.

I like this thread, but the lad that said Bob Fitzimmons wins. Unless Sugar Ray Leonard was born in Hartlepool.

Aldgate London.

Obviously Ted(kid) Lewis (The Aldgate Sphinx)
Al Phillips (The Aldgate Tiger) & his protege Dave Sharkey.
Mickey Duff (Not a great fighter but certainly a great promotor)
Sid Nathan (The Former Top Class Referee)
and of course The Lazar Brothers

All good Kosher Boys.

I was told that if you were Jewish in those days you were always billed from Aldgate, interesting.

Mate given the criteria - BEST boxer - we've got to go for Naz haven't we? I know there's loads to pick from but Naz in his pomp was from a different planet.
