froch and hearn joked about it in the post fight presser. the sun boxing guy even got a bit defensive about it and disassociated himself from it. just wish the editors had balls to reject crud like that. i write better pieces and i've only been doing it a few months.

I also can't see how Froch beats Calzaghe either. What I do think is that Froch would have gone to Germany and both fought and beaten Ottke, got himself outclassed by RJJ when he was still a force, and fought B-Hop earlier, which I think would have been a great fight (if he had reigned when Calzaghe did). Joe left so many unanswered questions; Froch will leave few if any.

i think thats a very important point.

we know EXACTLY what we have with froch. and within 18 months we will probably have the complete story. he will either be the 3 time world champ that avenged key losses and went out at the very top of the division or the 3 time world champ that beat almost everybody there was to beat but couldnt get past the top 1-2 guys in the division.

what do we know about calzaghe?

he was a great boxer who had one or 2 great victories but other than that fought mainly b levels and didnt fight the biggest names in his division until it was far far too late to mean anything.
regardless of who would have beaten who, Joe will always have question marks and be an easy target for detractors. You can say Carl had limitations but at least he risked it all to try and take it all

It's on a par with wartime propaganda for one-sided journalism, but we have to remember what shitehole paper it's in

(for the record I read it in a greasy spoon cafe as it was the only paper they had, I never buy the Sun)

I agree apart from the Hopkins bit, Hopkins was the one who pulled the plug on a fight with Joe in 2002 because he demanded more money, not Joes fault really.

Tricky one this, i honestly think calzaghe could have beat or caused serious problems for any SMW/LHW when he was fighting and now, only problem is i dont joe believed that. every time he was scheduled or got a big fight he would pull, in fact in his book he states he was close to pulling out of the lacy fight.

i agree with an earlier post, calzaghes career left us with more questions that answers, thats not going to be the case with froch

Joe needed a kick up the backside for him to step up, I think it was his dad calling him every name under the sun to prevent him from pulling out against Lacy.

It was the reported $120,000 fine that Gary Shaw had put in the contract after the previous messing about had cost Jeff Lacy the chance of fighting someone else.

JC was in the elite or he had the ability to be - but his record of opponents isn't as good as it could have been

You miss the point. People were dismissing Froch at the time. Not just on his challenge to Calzaghe, which was unwarranted, but on his ability to go anywhere beyond British title level. None of it matters with Froch now, but I wonder who else is currently being dismissed who later, we'll be eulogizing. Why not enjoy fighters now

that is a good point. if this forum had any say in who achieves what, froch, haye and others would be in little more than commonwealth/EBU level fights.
