Calzaghe is talking big.
i think ther should be rematch. but i dont see a different result.
Other than JC wont hit the deck and mitchell would more than once.
For all JC's faults to say he wouldnt outclass Mitchell in a rematch is blinkered I feel anyway.
Bigger and better things come for Joe I hope. But he has to make it happen. Thats my gripe with Joe, not his ability. but that he hasnt done enough to better himself.

Words marked....
I have to say, I have a suspicion that Johnson may be able to hurt Calzaghe bad. After all, Clinton Woods has a great chin, and Johnson had him in a world of trouble in the second fight. There was a point where had the ropes not come into play, I think woods would have hit the canvas, and Woods is a genuine light heavy, with a good chin. Woods took some serious licks off of Jones Jr and never went down, and could have gone on for longer. He was being saved from himself in that fight.
Underestimate Johnson at your peril...

I think you have stated your case pretty accurately, James.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Words marked....

Looking at the Mitchell fight, Calzaghe's hands were brought down by body shots and then knocked down.
Johnson is a much better body puncher than Mitchell, and is stronger and has a better chin too.

Agreed...Calzaghe has so much more speed...and hits as hard(if not harder)...i`ve never claimed it to be onesided but i think a very late stoppage or a good points win in a classic match up that will see both fighters getting caught cleanly. No offence to Clinto but whenever he`s stepped up he`s been beaten.MightyWarrior wrote:Calzaghe is world class, Clinton aint
When he fought Glencoffe he was getting beaten to the punch all the time...Calzaghe has the fastest hands this side of middleweight...my mouths watering just thinking about the match up...

And as stujones reminds us in another thread, the WBA upgraded Ottke to "super champ" later in 2003, paving the way for Mundine to fight for the "regular" (or unleaded, or whatever the f*** you'd call it) WBA title. I didn't hear Calzaghe agitating for a crack at the vacant title, even though Mundine had been KTFOed by the normally light-hitting Ottke back in December of 2001 and thus should've presented easy pickings for someone as world-beating as his fans make Joe out to be.Eric the Viking wrote:No, Ottke held only the IBF strap until March of last year, when he beat Byron Mitchell to add the WBA title.J wrote:be fair : pussie cheat boy in germany has held those for most the time.

If Joe was to fight Mundine he would get slated for fighting a light hitting novice with no chin.....and if you think Mundine would beat Calzaghe...you must be mundines dad.

I notice the Calzagheites say that about pretty much all the top contenders. Beats actually fighting them, I guess.bigynzing wrote:If Joe was to fight Mundine he would get slated for fighting a light hitting novice with no chin.....and if you think Mundine would beat Calzaghe...you must be mundines dad.

Decaffeinate? Is this a boxing term I don't know about?MightyWarrior wrote:Calzaghe is world class, Clinton aint. Joe will decaffeinate Glencoffe inside 10 rounds - mark my words too! 8)
Definition from my dictionary:
decaffeinate vt (transitive verb) to extract (most of) the caffeine from (coffee, tea, cola, etc)
So the referee will stop the fight within 10 rounds because Joe will have extracted all the caffeine from Johnson? What sort of victory would you call that?
Boxing's a mug's game...
I think Calzaghe has too much speed for DM. DM looked horrible against Gonzalez, basically getting outsepeeded by a guy who looked pretty leaden himself. Tiozzo's a different story, and I'll reserve judgement on Calzaghe-Tiozzo unitl I see the tape of the Tiozzo-Branco match and see how powerful and punch resistant Calzaghe looks at 175. That said, Branco's decent but probably no more and Tiozzo only squeaked past.
If Calzaghe looks how I think he's going to look at 175, I can definitely see him swinging straight in at third ranked light heavy in objective ratings, and maybe second best as well, if it does come to pass that Tarver had his day and gets waxed by Jones, which I've a feeling may happen...

Hey i know Calzaghe has fought a fair few stiffs...but when he`s been in with fighters who pose a legitimate threat they`ve been beaten with something to spare, he`s done a better job than a certain"major" belts holder who has just called it a day.....at the end of the day you cant blame Calzaghe for allegedly`s greed.Eric the Viking wrote:I notice the Calzagheites say that about pretty much all the top contenders. Im not even that bigger fan Of JoeC....yeah and it does piss me off when he fights the Jimenez`s of this world(pudwill was a relacement for Tate).......but that still doesnt take awy from the fact tha he`s legit worldclass.
He did fly to the States on a profile-raiser, I think.
Plus, if he goes to the US, unless he fights Jones or on some megacard as an undercard fighter, he'll make less wedge than fighting the same fighter in front of a sellout crowd somewhere in Wales. Same story with Hatton. Hatton-Mitchell as a top of the bill in Manchester could sell out Maine Road (maybe), but wouldn't do anything like that even in Vegas. Just makes financial sense to fight at home and get the biggest pay packet for both boxers

he is 30 years old not 25 as Hatton is and Hatton is already better known in the US than Calzaghe cos of his style and appeal to the US tv audience as James correctly states..
Do you honestly think JC would make more money fighting a Pudwill or Jimenez in cardiff or fighting a Tarver or Jones in vegas?
no brainer my friend. Even if he wasnt sometimes you need to take a step back to go forward.
What would have been the harm in him fighting a couple of americans over there to raise his profile rather than in cardiff other than the money.
I mean surely if he had the mitchell fight in the US we would be seeing Jones or Tarver against JC now.
The money would have probably balanced out with a big payday at the end of it.
The fights Team Calzaghe have been crapping on about for 3 years, Hopkins, Jones, Tarver even Ottke and how many have they seriously made an attempt to make. None.
Hopefully that is a bout to change.
Pudwill was at Newcastle telewest J...im not trying to take the piss...im only metioning it cos i was there...Hatton fought Joey Hutchinson on the same bill....I`d love to see Calzaghe and Hatton go over to the states and fight on the same bill.....What about Calzaghe v Johnson
Hatton v Mitchell
Takaloo v Ouma
Williams v Mesi
Move over Warren....big`s commin through.
