Rankings are subjective. Only a few months ago the opening poster was claiming that he had a 15 year old who was beating up fighters who were above WBC world-title level. He wouldn't name the fighters and in fairness his kid got to British title level 12 years later!

I understand his frustration with those rankings though. Stevie Wonder can see that Keane should be in them!

It should be. Informal English has taken over.

Oh I see, so it was more of I told them so earlier, and don't you start picking on me on how I write things and grammar now aswell, your supposed to be my mate  I've already had stick of a English language Dr from Oxford on here picking on my words in there right context :D
Yh I hope not mate, frustrating constantly waiting around and getting knocked back, boxing pisses me off sometimes
You would have had a stick "off" a English language Dr from Oxford, not "of". And its "an" English, not "a". You need to cut down on the training mate and brush up your English if you want to start carrying on on here!

Listen I don't need to brush up on my English to be on here do I ? This is a forum about boxing not about English language & grammar. It's just stupid Fukers that think there funny that like to try and pick people up on there writing or way they spell because they have not got a fornicating clue about anything else. Plus seen has you want to contradict my writing then I said " get stick of " not " get A stick of" has you have just put :shame: so before you pick me up on my writing then I think you need to watch your own, why would I want " A Stick Of" anybody ? Unless I wanted it to throw for my dog to fetch :TU:

One should never start a sentence with a conjunction. Its is not in the possessive form either, it's in the contracted form but that's what cracks me up about Billy, he gives it the "what's it matter how you spell things so long as you give it a go" but yet when someone criticises him he fires back straight away with "come back when you've boxed or trained professionally". Surely by his weird logic it wouldn't matter how good or bad someone is so long as they give it a go and we all know what they mean?

That said, he does come in for a disproportionate amount of stick on here and I've defended him in the past but maybe part of that is down to how he comes across when talking to people.

If I was as petty as he says I'd have pointed out the inherent irony in him misspelling grammar.

The level of writing by some genuinely baffles me, I wonder who writes their job applications, CVs or any form of formal letter for them. Then again the sheer level of people who seemingly can't understand the difference between your and you're always makes my head hurt.

I don't even have A-levels. Maybe I just paid more attention at school?

Glad you did pay attention at school, at least people like you can pick up us lower class people on pronunciation & grammar, you've done a good deed for the day now, well done :TU:

I sometimes wonder if the hard men sitting on there keyboards are actually really grown up adults, because the way the like to laugh and take the piss and pick people up on they're English or other mistakes is Childish to say the least. Just because maybe some people are not the greatest at spelling or pronunciation or grammar why is that so funny or feel it should be mimicked ?

Glad you did pay attention at school, at least people like you can pick up us lower class people on pronunciation & grammar. But I bet it hasn't got you or the rest of the English Language specialists anywhere, I bet your all in debt to your eye balls with credit cards, mortgage payments etc for the next 30 yrs plus, while lower class people like me who can't read or write correctly are living a nice comfortable life with no worries or debts :TU: so maybe your right, maybe I should of paid more attention at school :OhYes:
Why would I have debt? What a bizarre assumption.

@mickey: maybe you're right, not maybe your right, you illiterate eff!
To a point.

Some people think the terms UK and British are interchangeable now. It wasn't that long ago that the official Buck House website talked about the Union Jack etc. It's just how things are.

BCM - I think Mickey's post wasn't entirely serious.

Why do you think anyone laughed?

You can't see some faint humour in inadvertently telling people you don't like being touched?

For the record, i was being sarcastic. I dont really think you should cut back on the training and attend night school. We need you to help Chris break into the top 10.

Agree, i personally don't care about who can write correctly and who can't, we all understand (mostly) what people are trying to say...just concentrate on the core points rather than grammer mistakes...it is childish we are not all the same.

Using the wrong word isn't grammar, as I said...Billy was the one harping on about grammer (sic).

Hardly comparable. There are a few inaccurate comments about Andy in this thread. I also doubt that Dean contacted Andy directly via email. No quotes from Andy have been provided and we are merely basing this on hearsay. Does Andy have sole influence over the ratings at Boxing News? Are the ratings subjective or objective? So many unanswered questions ....

I may know the answer to the aforementioned questions but I believe it's something for Dean and Andy to discuss on a personal level.

I would like Dean to discuss this amicably with Andy because both of them are very reasonable guys and the misconceptions can easily be overcome. I think they will come to a mutual understanding to some extent. Big Dean is regularly at shows in the Midlands and can easily have a chat with Andy, he's very approachable.
Well yes thats's a question that needs answering does Andy compile the rankings for BN or is it an orifice effort? if so he is open to public criticism for his choices. Sacking him is a tad harsh to say the least though!

The English language is constantly evolving. What is now formal might not have been once upon a time.

The worst grammar zealots are those who try and belittle others for their supposed lack of knowledge without really understanding the textured and developing nature of language themselves - most notably those who castigate people for splitting infinitives when there is nothing 'wrong' with doing just that.

And I'm not a linguist, by the way. If I were, I'd still be fine with starting a sentence with a conjunction (see previous example).

I think the problems generally come about when people who are perfectly fine speaking the language then try and start writing it when they normally don't. It comes out as a stream of conciousness that is hard to decipher at times.

I've no problem with things evolving, I write informally all day long at work but there's a line somewhere.

I used to hate being made to write thank you letters as a kid. I'm sure my family didn't give a toss that I wrote on writing paper that was properly spaced and all that but I know when applying for jobs at 15 that they sure as shit cared how the letters were written.

Absolutely - it's all about audience and purpose...so (and I'm not getting at you as I know you were only teasing) for people to criticise other people's use of language on a forum is probably at least as inappropriate as the posts to which they refer.

Unless it's a forum/thread about formal English usage or similar
