Mate boxing even as regular as I have really doesn't pay that much.im a painter decorator and aswell as trying to get some fighters round me thats what ill do. Of your not in the game for love you better find something else

Oh and if I was offered a world title fight for 101 I'd turn it down

I am sure that Johnny is intelligent enough to have thought things through and has an idea or 2 as to what to do next to get food on the table, (even if it is just jellied eels 8) ); I imagine he's not made enough to pay off a mortgage but many people do not have a mortgage; they rent a place to live, particularly in London; he's done honest graft and set an example to his kids. I also imagine that the noble game is more noble for us watching it than it is for those earning a living in it, if 100 bouts is enough for him then it's enough for me as a fan and I hope he gets a decent living after it.

I said before I started that I want 100 fights.i was boxing so regular against good lads that its taken so much mental hard work that I'm tired now.not just physically but mentally.you really don't know the amount of times I've really had to bite down and push on thru.when you break down your earnings & pay everyone % it is no more than a good weeks money to get to the 100 club was all I ever wanted.never been a great boxer just a great chin & balls.ive loved every second but life moves on.ill never be rich but ill always feed my kids

When I read the thread title, Johnny Melfah is the first name I thought of. Hard as nails amateur, stopped by Herol Graham for the British title and then seemed to settle into a role. Ended up with a half and half record but was much better than that.

is it possible to be a full time pro as a jouneyman johnny or is it more of a top up mate?

You could do mate,but then again.one cut or stoppage and you ain't working for at least a month.in all honesty I said before I started that I will have a 100 fights.its not great dough.when you take off your exes and add up moterway miles time away from home.if you don't love fighting or have a goal & you just want money.this isn't the right game for ya.not looking for pats on the back but this is a bloody hard way to earn a wage

There are very few that would ever realise the discipline and dedication that is required to do what these guys do at this level.
Along with sheer balls and determination when it comes to pats on the back they are due in my opinion as there would be many a propect that would have fallen along the way if not for the real journey man role meaning guys that give a decent test what is the alternative non trying tomato cans that fall at the first opportunity ? or lads being rushed into 50/50 fights with lack of experience leading to an even greater decline in the business/sport ?

100% right.well put sir!i still get old opponents praise for little tricks & things I showed them.lots of boys think once they lose 1 or 2 they could just go on the road.not ever gonna happen.a good journeyman is very good at what they do.its not just losing.the notice is very short.you can't stay peak fitness 52 weeks a year.its an art form!these boys train for months 4 one particular fight.we get a call days before.you can't compete with that.but these lads couldn't do our job.

Alan temple was a good amateur from what I remember who seemed to fall into the journeyman roll
