I am a romani gypsy ,me family has been settled here in the Midlands since the late 1980s, our people know of or or know each other far and wide and i can tell you now i have never heard of gypsy people with the 2nd name Gavin or that Frankie was my own kind ...if he is its the first i heard of it.
Unless hes what we call a gorja traveller D

His Mum and Dad are Irish so I'd guess one or both is an Irish traveller, don't know if there's any difference between Romani gypsies and Irish travellers though.

Both Gavin and big Dean lived on a traveler site run by the local council at the back of the gym in Hall Green fair play to them both funding there boxing subs going door to door selling pegs and bunches of lucky heather as young as five

It was Davey Jones, Mickey Duffs right hand man who informed me of Henrys background, maybe it was more romantic, I worked all of Whartons fights and he was the biggest ticket seller I have ever been involved with. Out of interest do show people and gypsys not get on?, I knew some proper show people and they were boxing the same time as Henry and they got on very well.

It wasn't just travellers who supported him though. He was very popular in York and Leeds. Not seen a ticket seller like him either. Buglioni is good but the York Hall wouldn't have been big enough for Henry. Superb nights at the Town Hall.

Thank you for a very informed description, It is superb how much you can learn on this forum and it reminds me of my amateur days (I was very average but loved it) my main sparring partner, Nelson Smith, was a Gypsy lad and now over 20 years later we are still good friends, boxing really does bring people together, I am a little old fashioned but boxing should be back in schools, anyway that is for another day and another forum debate!

Fair dos, just seems unusual for it to happen with travellers.

I think what frankies saying is his dads side are travellers and hes not had much to do with them so hes not a traveller.

You mention all the well know Irish Names and including the Fury name but what i guess you dont know is the Furys have just as much english romany blood running through them as Irish, i think the Irish handle is something tyson wanted to get a handle on :)

God forbid I am 40 year old next year and i have never heard of the name Gavin on any english gypsy site i have eva stopped on, but thats not to say the name ent among the paddys , but just remember they are a separate breed from us Romanies , a bit like the pakistanis and Sikhs ..but if your are even remotely related to a gypsy you would know this
