I honestly never thought so many 'boxing fans' would turn against a fighter like Froch so easily. He's fought the best in a tough division. He's got one of the best chins and hearts in world boxing.

He came back from an early beating to start turning the fight around. The man should be applauded not booed. He says some debatable things but so does Groves. As well as Groves performed, I can't believe how he's come out of this like the sun shines out his a**. Are people not forgetting the are you guna cry jibes? And some of the stuff hes retweeted since have been a bit classless. Seems everything he does is OK but Froch is a monster for suggesting Groves was on his way out in the 9th. I was in the arena and there seemed to be thousands of fickle fans there. Froch didn't admit the stoppage was early but how many fighters would say "yeah it was early, in fact, take my belts back, I don't deserve em". Then he went on to say Groves is only 25 and he himself couldn't do that at 25 basically admitting Groves is better for his age and will go on to stay at the top.

As someone posted on a different thread. 20 seconds longer and Froch is still a hero and true champion whereas Groves has question marks over chin and stamina after an impressive 6 rounds. However we're stuck with Froch somehow being a fraud/corrupt and not a true warrior and Groves is the best thing since sliced bread.

it's not froch the boxer that has made some turn against him it's his personality ,he spent a long time slagging off calzaghe when joe was the champ and froch was in groves shoes BUT he hated it done to him .. plus groves did exactly what he said he'd do he came out and dominated froch in the centre of the ring .surely that deserved some respect from froch yet he gave groves no credit at all which is rare in boxing take haye and chisora they embraced after their fight and said each other was a good fighter but Froch doesn't seem to be able to compliment a fighter who had him out and who gave him a boxing lesson . Froch has come across as a bit of a dickhead in the post fight interviews ,froch would be better off not opening his mouth as he comes across as a very bitter man.
if froch had said groves was a good fighter that gave him a very hard fight then people would accept that but it was the way froch dismissed groves performance that turn me against froch the man.

I agree Froch can be hypocritical and says some ridiculous things but as I said, he mentioned Groves age and the fact he could never do it at that age, then the next day on Sky he said Groves was better than him early on. I think people hear what they want to hear with Froch and run with it. Similar to Khan in a way that he says some ridiculous things which means it passes people by when he manages to speak sense. To sum it up though, boos are just ridiculous and disrespectful to any boxer after such a war. This isn't football, these guys actually earn their money and deserve respect. Froch more than most.

I always remember that thing were Carl rings up Joe to ask when they're going to "get it on", if I'd have been Joe I'd have just hung up.

All the respect in the world for him as a fighter and I will continue to watch his fights and want him to win but as a man? Never appealed to me, ever, just has that attitude where you just think "wind your neck in mate and brush that chip off your shoulder"

Having watched boxing since the early 1980s…I can tell you now we are very lucky to have had Carl Froch.

He has consistently fought top calibre opposition. He’s risked his reputation over and over. He’s won dramatic come from behind fights. He has taken on every challenge.

He’s not a showman like Eubank…or a great communicator…

But then again he hasn’t annexed a WBO title and taken on sub-par opposition.

I had Groves winning easily. I thought Froch had turned the tide and would go on to stop George…but I don’t know for sure. I think Groves was robbed of his chance to hold on in there…I think Carl was robbed of his chance to properly end the fight.

I want to see a rematch. I have no idea who would win it.

But Froch is entitled to fight who he likes. I’d be disappointed if he took on some unknown Albanian chap (no offence to Albanians) but Carl has earned the right.

People slagging him off don’t realise how good they’ve had it.

In addition to the above, Froch came across as a right cock in the post fight interview and Groves came across well - the British public tend to like a "nice guy" (eg. Bruno, McGuigan) unless they are a pantomime baddie like Naz or Eubank.

We also do like the underdog and a good tryer etc. but also like a gallant winner.

Froch wouldn't give Groves any props and even said "that is why people love me" to the sound of boos. He then said that "there are a handful of people booing" when clearly a large proportion of the crowd were booing.

To be fair, he does sound deluded. I am not sure who he has got around him and what they tell him but somebody needs to pull him to one side and have a word with him.

Take me for example. I never really liked Froch (don't know why, just didn't take to him) until he beat Pascal, and I became a fan (and decided to ignore the other bits of his personality).

After his reaction to Groves I have now swung back to the "not a fan" category just because his whole persona is in danger of overshadowing his great achievements.

Again, nothing really logical to this, but if others are feeling the same then I can understand.

Some of the things on this thread are far more damaging to British boxing than the fight end.

Disloyalty, sensationalism and a sheep like mentality. Thrown away a British legend just like that, you embarrass yourselves.

Really I couldn't give a toss what Carl says in interviews, he is a fantastic warrior for British boxing, no doubt about it. His record for taking on the tough guys is unparalleled.

I'd love to see him give Groves another shot, & I really think he will, because I don't think there's much interest in seeing Ward 2 at all.

I agree that it's the fickleness of the general british public that is the most worrying thing here. people are becoming worse. I blame X-Factor type TV shows where people think they have the right to decide people's future and throw them in the bin. It's all about the people now, even if the people don't know jack-shit what they are talking about.

I don't like some of what Froch has come out with post-fight, but to be honest i think most people had made their mind up before he even spoke judging by the boos in the arena.

Maybe it's that the Brits love a gallant loser, an underdog. I duno, but I do know this - I wonder how many of those sheep in that arena and who bought the PPV saw the Jermain Taylor fight?

Froch's problem is he is saying 'respect me' 'I've won all these fights etc', but those casuals couldn't give a shit cos they've come along after 5 minutes and probably know more about George Groves from the DeGale fight than they do about Froch.

If you want to boo shit refs and general corruption in boxing fair enough, but to boo Froch just for defending himself against a guy who was trying to destroy his lengthy list of achievements, or defending himself from a booing crowd, then I think that's a step too fickle for me.

Froch has taken on the very best in his era, his last 5 years of his career, put Eubank, Calzaghe and even Benn to Shame. He took on his era's Toney, and unlikely Calzaghe, challenged all the other belt holders, including Bute.

I think a rematch will happen, because I don't think Carl could rest having a cloud over his career - I think McCracken may have seen one or two things that night, which will encourage him to tell Carl to retire, but I think Carl will go on.

I think there will be a rematch, and I think in a second fight, Carl will prevail again, but a little easier. Groves his Carl with his best shots and just couldn't put him away, and I think going into a second fight, that will give Carl a huge psychological advantage.

Froch want those "casuals" to fork out £15 PPV or £50 for ticket, what else does he want - for those people who have paid their hard earned money to sit down STFU and not have an opinion ?

Deluded.

As many others haver said, the boos and subsequent reaction have got nothing to do with Froch's performance on the night or his previous performances but his behaviour before and after the fight.

Why is this so difficult for people (including Froch ?) to understand ?

IMO the reaction to Froch has been a long time coming. He's never really been completely accepted by boxing fans or the wider public (personality wise) but he's never given them a good reason to get on his back.

Refusing to shake Groves' hand after the fight and the fact he seemed the recipient of a very kind stoppage win as the 'home' fighter, have opened the flood gates.

It's all a little over the top, though. I was extremely disappointed with the ending but in no way did I blame Froch for it.

Froch has pushed it too far this time. It's all grown very tiresome and off-putting.

Some of his comments and actions before, during and after don't resemble a champion at all.

I don't really think Groves has much leverage for the rematch unless he gets either the WBA or IBF to order it (unlikely).

He has no promotional tie or bargaining chip and he has no mandatory card to play.

Given how little credit Froch was willing to give him in any form, I think it unlikely he's going to pander to "popular opinion" or grant Groves his wish so he's going to do what he wants to do. He essentially holds all the aces which will suit him.

I think it's far more likely to be those factors than what people are saying on twitter or facebook (lol).

I have a new idea, X-Factor boxing. Let the people decide. Viewers vote after each round who won the round, get rid of the judges!!

People would actually go for that.

Back that up with some quotes!

Given the nature in which Froch tried to belittle him throughout the run up, I'm surprised Groves was able to maintain his composure!

He did not rubbish all of Froch's achievents. He pointed out his short comings. He was outboxed by Taylor, Dirrell and Ward. He did loose to Kessler. Groves was trying to get under his skin, so what.

Froch's behavoir pre fight was far worse than Groves, and post fight, well, need I say anything?

I didn't see that Cobra; I thought he put Froch' accomplishments into perspective - as a boxing fan it's ok to have a view that it's all fantastic; as a challenger or a trainer attempting to gather a game plan to beat the man then Frochs fights have to be watched for signs of weaknesses, things he struggled with etc. It was fair game for Froch to mention Groves being dropped by Anderson and in sparring and for him to win a close bout with DeGale - it was obscene for Groves to say that Froch struggled with Dirrell, lost to Kessler and Ward and that Froch had a style that Groves could capitalise on.

Froch wanted Groves to promote him and make his achievements and status the major thing. Post bout Froch was very stringy in his verdict on Groves which is not really the class shown by great champions - it is the bile spouted by bullies.
