Shut up man. He has a well documented history of hip problems. He got in the ring, walked into the first left hook that was thrown and his game plan went tits up. He took some mighty shots and also threw some, somewhere in that, his hip was effected either by a punch or his movement.

IS THAT SO HARD TO BELIEVE?

Plus, it's the same hip he had when he beat Geale. All of his hip surgery was before that.
If you look at my Barker interview from today mate, he was saying he had trouble about a month ago with his hip during sparring.

Two things happened to Barker last night: 1) He was shaken up and knocked down by hard shots to the temple. 2) He aggravated an old injury which rendered him largely immobile. More precisely, he dislocated his hip.

Anybody want to know what it feels like to have a dislocated hip? No I don't either, but I would imagine that having the thigh-bone pop out of it's socket would be pretty unbearable. Barker's response to the twin afflictions of the dislocation and an altered state of consciousness was to try and drive Sturm back with two fisted attacks of his own. He couldn't circle the ring and weather the storm. His condition would have got worse with each passing round.

Truth is, he took the only option that such a proud champion could. Throw punches in bunches and hope to find that one fight ending punch - something Barker doesn't possess. But credit him for trying. As the towel entered the ring, Barker was launching another attack through gritted teeth and unimaginable pain.

So, you can say that he collapsed like a pack of card if you like. But I will politely disagree.

FFS. his hip was well enough to win the fight against Geale. The same hip he started tonight's fight. He arrived and showed a lot of guts, throwing shots back when he was in massive trouble and injured. Yeah, he mugged the public, of course mate.
Which way do you want it, Keith? Cut him some slack because he got injured, or cut him some slack because he gave it a go?
Both, because that's what happed. He got an injury and 'gave it a go'.

Barker went down fighting. and for you to say....
Ben Carey wrote:For a champion to collapse like a pack of cards in that manner was bewildering.
.... is completely out of order. He threw punches from the opening bell, until pretty much the end of the fight.

I know, I read it. He's had trouble with his hips for years, hence the surgery.

Having trouble with his hip and being injured are totally differing things. It's possible he felt it jar or twinge in sparring just one time, and rendered it insignificant or down to a bad day.

Barker has consistently struggled and fought just to get into the ring, to get to world level boxing is phenomenal irrespective of how his fight ended.

Kahn had toothache a month before the Garcia fight i reckon.... the fan robbing swine.

I agree mate. If fighters weren't allowed to fight if the were susceptible to a certain injury, there'd be hardly any fights.

Are you saying no one should enter a fight if they have a recurring health issue that might flair up during the fight?

I won't shut up Keith

He got in the ring injured, it was a pension fight but he didn't deserve a £million payday for his achievements or because he's a nice man; the money for his purse ultimately came from boxing fans who work hard for their money; I know I do.

That's all just your opinion mate. You have no way of knowing that it was a pension fight. He got in the ring and tried to win. It was the punches to the head to put him on the floor. Yes he has a history of hip problems. He felt it in training, but that does not mean he was injured when the fight started. He said it happened in the first round and by the second round he could barely walk. He showed no sign what-so-ever before the fight that his hip was troubling him. None.

Shut up.

What? In the ring walk? Try and use what's between your ears. His hip is fine and then goes within 3 minutes of a fight? Come on.

I can appreciate that it must have been a hard decision for him, retire with a million pound payoff or without - in fact it's not even difficult is it?

My contention is that boxing is a serious sport and many had their knickers in a twist a week or so ago about a man taking a few more punches, it may have ended his career etc etc. I'd say that getting in the ring with a serious mobility problem is more serious than that; also it IS unfair to the fans that shell out, particularly to his hard core fans - if he was to retire it'd be better to have a whip round than the shambles of last night.

Larry Holmes fought Norton injured. Should Larry have pulled out?

Holmes boxed Norton with hips that had troubled him for years and after a major operation? Did they go in the first round?

I can understand your and others point and can appreciate that I am being harsh - someone pointed that out earlier.

I can appreciate that many boxers go in the ring with injuries that mean that they are not 100% but going in with a serious injury (hasn't he retired straight after the bout?) is dangerous and is a liability to himself, his opponent and the sport.

The point is mate, none of us have any idea how bad the hip was before the fight. So what makes you think it was so bad that he shouldn't have fought?

Im going to say Frank Bruno against Tyson number 2. I think Bruno knew he didnt have a chance in hell and cashed in on the title. Im sure Bruno could have taken an easier option for yes less money and maybe defended his crown. Bruno fought very hard to get to the top but in my opinion just threw it away for money. While I love Bruno I think he did himself injustice fighting Tyson again and really not giving his fans much of a return.

It must have got ignored so I'll repeat it.

Robin Reid vs Sugar Boy Malinga - worst world title fight I have ever seen and for a young man like Reid to get outworked by Malinga who was pushing 40 (maybe over 40) and basically did hardly anything himself.... it was a disgrace.

I would ask those who cannot remember to re-watch it, but I am not that cruel.

He had to fight Tyson as part of the deal done to bring McCall over. Bruno didn't really want it.

That's why he is getting a free pass on here. Personally, I think he is well out of order and very sly. I also think Sky are wrong to take the whole team and their two favourite fighters out on a shopping trip a fortnight before Christmas and then leave subscribers with nothing until February. We will, I'm not joking, probably get repeats of Froch and Brook as a treat over the festive season! It's a joke.
