I'm the same. Started training aged 41, a couple months ago. Loving it. No intention of fighting, but feeling fitter and met great people. and, they can hold their own in a conversation about boxing, without just quoting what they read in the sports pages of the sun.

I literally have no mates who know boxing outside of Sky Sports news! My Dads the only one but he normally relies on me for updates!

Lucas Browne didn't start until he was nearly 30 and he will be boxing for a world title in the next six months.

23 is not too old at all.

I`m 42 and still play international rugby (albeit only for Norway).

A few solid rounds of sparring and you`ll soon find out whether boxing is for you. Some decent clumps round the noggin put most People off.

you can start boxing at any age really, age is only a number at the end of the day, its the dedication your going to put into something and commitment your willing to give it.

its not a boxing example but Randy Couture (MMA) didn't start fighting until his early 30's and with only a wrestling background.

23, your old enough to make the decision to get in the ring yourself and mature enough to take it seriously so I'd say go for it.

Club scene is poor. Only really Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger with teams. I'm atI Bergen. Poor standard, but but great laugh.

It is mate It's like ballet dancing compared to league.

I'm 34 now and still not gone to a boxing gym and done it. I was thinking about it since the age of about 25, so my advice would be just get in there and do it, I feel like 23 is just young enough that if you turn out to be naturally good at it you could still get up to a decent level by 28-30.

The hardest part is just going. I'm 46 next and started MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu about 10 months ago; its hard work but I'm glad I started. I don't know you and honestly think if you just sent you'd be fine, the 2nd time it'd be easier and after a few weeks people won't give you a second look - boxing is excellent for fitness and confidence. Best of luck with it,by the time you're my age you'll be a veteran with a good style of boxing, bags of confidence and a bunch of good mates

I often wonder how many people out there are unbelievably talented at sports theyve never tried. I could be the lionel messi of crown green bowls for all i know, or the floyd mayweather of the "fast walking" race u see at the olympics (the one where you walk like u have a broken arse).

I remember watching an episode of Trans World Sport years ago.

There was a bloke who was confined to a wheelchair following an accident.

He took up wheelchair tennis and he said that after about 2 sessions one of the top coaches approached him and asked about his tennis background as he did not recognise him - he thought he must have been a really good player before his accident but in fact had only just picked up a racket.

It turns out he had a natural ability in the sport and didn't know it as he had never played tennis before.

It is too old for football, but the reason why pisses me off slightly: you need to know the right people at a young age, and even if you're amazing as a late-starter, no-one of influence'll give you the time of day. Same in car racing, where you'll get nowhere without bags of money or great contacts if you weren't a junior karter. Unfortunately, this is often true of boxing if you're not a crowd-pleaser.

The nice thing about bike racing is that you can do the TT for a fraction of the cost, and if you're good, people notice. But yeah, I think a lot of people are talented at more advanced ages, but no-one's scouting. I also think there's an ingrained mentality among most footballers that your mid-30s are the end. As if they're following the calendar rather than listening to their bodies, and choosing to believe that the hill's falling away from them, just because they've not much hunger left. Jo Pavey's a cracking example of someone who said balls to that kind of defeatism.

its all about levels. 23 isnt too old to start playing football, if the question was "can i become an eliete boxer having never boxed before 23" then the answer would be almost certainarly not. Is it to old to start and be the best you can be, no.
