We live in a culture where image is sold as everything, but that doesn't mean image actually is everything. Fighters boxing twice a year should peak on two days each year.

Sorry but that's just not true. The NFL is the most competitive league in sports. Even excellent players often only get 5 years in the league before their replaced and can't get back in. Any player coming in out of shape would be cut immediately.

The idea its better for your body to be out of shape at any time is plain daft. Why is your body less susceptible to injury if your fat?

I suppose the closest we have come to it here was when World class cricketer Freddie spent months in a proper training camp to take on a very limited club fighter. That was easy enough, wasn't it?

I didn't say they came in out of shape, I said they came in fat. Being fat, up to a certain point that shifts on a case by case basis, can be a good thing for sportsmen depending on where they are in their particular training cycle, particularly if they don't use PEDS but even if they do there's arguments for, again case by case. body by body. If a guy is going through a strength training cycle (as I know Fury has incidentally) carrying that extra bodyfat increases hormone production, boosts energy, helps the body absorb vitamins, and protects the joints. It also aids leverage enabling the sportsman to lift heavier weights with a reduced chance of sustaining injury.

Laymen have a concept of 'in shape' that has been sold to them. Sportsmen either know, or are manoeuvred, to periodise their training and don't, or shouldn't, attempt to maintain a competitive peak year round. As I said earlier, the consequence of that is always underachievement. Not all coaches and athletes get the balance about right.

Re: NFL, guys turning up to training camp very heavy still happens but not to the degree it did 10 or a dozen years back, for a number of reasons, including commercial ones, more players have been arriving lean. Studies are now being done to find out why injury rates in the league are rising despite the fact contact has been lessened by rule changes. I'm confident that one of their findings will be that a lot of guys are turning up to pre-season at peak fitness levels (not match fitness), they are then losing significant amounts of muscle mass and bodyweight during camp and starting the season overcooked, hence the injuries and the under-performance. We'll see.

There was an ever so slight hint of the fix being in that fight!

Never. Surely an elite sportsman like Flintoff can beat that guy easy with training... I backed him fairly heavily.

I think Tyson Fury is a slugger who nearly dozed off on John McDermott's shoulder, beat Steve Cunningham by some combination of his sheer size and using some highly dubious pinning technique on the ropes, after getting decked heavily in the first minute. Usain Bolt probably doesn't drink alcohol in pubs until he's p*ssed, he probably doesn't touch alcohol at all. It was 3 or 4 years ago I watched Tyson Fury taking Sky round his caravan and telling them how every morning he likes to sit down to a full-English breakfast.
Don't give it to me with your arrogant crap that a trained Bolt couldn't compete in a boxing match - I keep saying trained - can you read? Usain Bolt is a vastly, vastly superior physical specimen to Tyson full-English breakfast Fury, so lay off it with the pompous horsesh*t Mr Expert.
And I'd like to reiterate also, I do like Fury and hoped he would beat that other arrogant person, David Haye. Get your high horse you idiot.
So your little outburst (over a couple of days mind) and nasty PMes to other posters wasn't enough to prove what a total c.u.n.t that you really are, you've excelled yourself in this thread

you're in the British thread now me old China. We don't really go in for people like you, with nothing better to do that post up stupid images all day, including of a sexual nature, generally offensive to either individuals or whole groups. People like the bumlicker who shall remain nameless - just saying bumlicker most people will know who I mean - calling you Dale and the same people calling you Daz. If you're the chump who's videos I've seen, who sounds like a really bully and general scumbag/ joke, I'd take them videos down before you sound off about beating people. If you're Dale Berry you're a total joke on the boxing forums I've seen, if you're not, you're still a foul mouthed little creep. Beat it back into "what I'm doing in my sad little life right now thread" and please don't come back into the British section with your stupid fcking pictures as people with a bit more grey matter post here compared to where you're used to. Thanks :TU:

You're barking up the wrong tree if you think a man who has never boxed before, regardless of athletic ability, could give a world class boxer a "good fight" with only 6 months training in boxing. Give over mate. You're massively underestimating the "skill" and "technique" required in boxing that takes years to acquire.
As much as I enjoy listening to the bloke, in my personal opinion Tyson Fury does not possess any "world class" boxing skills.

He just finished a full camp for Haye and then stagnated whilst he was messed about for the rescheduled date. I thought he looked in great nick at the end of September.
Thats pretty normal he's probably just carrying the normal few extra pounds before losing it during his training camp, probably just a bit of water weight.
