It's Froch's best performance but not the best fighter he's beaten, although Bute would be up there, but he probably wouldn't be in the top 50 for fighters beaten by British fighters.

It is a valid question with Bob Fitzsimmons. He left Britain, learned to box elsewhere, and never came back. Do we claim him as a Brit? I know we 'need' to cling to him, but really, was he a British fighter? In what way?

Same thing with Lewis. Left the UK early in life, learned to box elsewhere, fought for Canada in the Olympics twice, returned to the UK cynically (in my opinion) as a business decision because there was nothing at that time in Canada. Contemporaneous Lennox Lewis quote:

Nothing wrong with that Mr G, he was always sold to you as such. We had wider more complete coverage of the man over here and, although I am a Lewis fan, there always seemed something very cynical about his 'Britishness'. Has lived abroad his whole life. Bitched about the cold weather when he boxed Bruno over here. As Bruno said, "What did he expect? Jamaican warmth?"

It's an interesting discussion for we Brits who aren't frothing nationalists.

He was a Cornish boy, never a Cornish man. He never even returned to the UK to fight.

Seriously? Curry looked great for a while pre Honeyghan, but post that fight the wheels came off. He's more an example of never living up to his potential than anything else. It was a great win, but....

80% plus of lists of all time P4P fighters seem to have Robinson top.
I don't think I've EVER seen one where he wasn't in the top 3, along with Ezzard Charles, Harry Greb, and sometimes people from before film.

On that basis, it's hard to argue that a Brit ever beat a better fighter than Sugar Ray Robinson. I for one don't think such a fighter ever lived.

Randy Turpin beat the man widely regarded as the greatest boxer of all time.

Well technically he is a British citizen but he wasn't raised here so it was kind of difficult for him to be accepted as such.
